śrīsarvajñāya namaḥ||
samyagjñānasya vaktāraṁ praṇipatya jineśvaram|
nyāyapraveśakavyākhyāṁ sphuṭārthāṁ racayāmyaham||
racitāmapi satprajñairvistareṇa samāsataḥ|
asatprajño'pi saṁkṣiptaruciḥ sattvānukampayā||
tatra ca-
sādhanaṁ dūṣaṇaṁ caiva sābhāsaṁ parasaṁvide|
pratyakṣamanumānaṁ ca sābhāsaṁ tvātmasaṁvide||
ityādāveva ślokaḥ| āhāsya kimādāvupanyāsa iti| ucyate| iha prekṣāpūrvakāriṇaḥ prayojanādiśūnye na kvacitpravartanta ityato'dhikṛtaśāstrasya prayojanādipradarśanena prekṣāvatāṁ pravṛttyarthamiti| śāstrārthakathanakālopasthitaparasaṁbhāvyamānānupanyāsahetunirākaraṇārthaṁ ca nyāyapraveśakākhyaṁ śāstramārabhyate ityukte saṁbhavatyevaṁvādī paraḥ- nārabdhavyamidaṁ prayojanarahitatvāt unmattakavākyavat| tathā nirabhidheyatvāt kākadantaparīkṣāvat| tathā asaṁbaddhatvāt daśa dāḍimāni ṣaḍapūpāḥ kuṇḍamajājinaṁ palalapiṇḍaṁ sara kīṭiketyādivākyavat| tadamīṣāṁ hetūnāmasiddhatodbhāvayiṣayā prayojanādipratipādanārthamādau ślokopanyāsa| ayaṁ cābhidheyaprayojane eva darśayati sākṣāt saṁbandhaṁ tu sāmarthyena| yathā caitadevaṁ tathā sukhapratipattyarthamevameva leśato vyākhyāya darśayiṣyāmaḥ|| vyākhyā ca padavākyasaṁgateti| uktaṁ ca-
śāsraprakaraṇādīnāṁ yathārthāvagamaḥ kutaḥ|
vyākhyāṁ vihāya tattvajñaiḥ sā coktā padavākyayoḥ||
tatrāpi padasamudāyātmakatvādvākyasyādau padārthagamanikā nyāyyā|
sā ca padavibhāgapūrvetyataḥ padavibhāgaḥ|
sādhanam dūṣaṇam ca eva sābhāsam parasaṁvide pratyakṣam anumānam ca sābhāsam tu ātmasaṁvide iti padāni||
adhunā padārtha ucyate| sādhyate aneneti siddhirvā sādhayatīti vā sādhanam| tacca pakṣādivacanajātam|
vakṣyati ca| pakṣādivacanāni sādhanam| viṣayaścāsya dharmaviśiṣṭo dharmī|
tathā dūṣyate'nena dūṣayatīti vā dūṣaṇam|
tacca sādhanadoṣodbhāvanaṁ vacanajātameva|
vakṣyati ca sādhanadoṣodbhāvanāni dūṣaṇāni| viṣayaścāsya sādhanābhāsaḥ na samyaksādhanam| tasya duṣayitumaśakyatvāt|
nanu vakṣyati sādhanadoṣodbhāvanāni dūṣaṇānīti tadetatkatham| ucyate|
sādhanābhāsa eva kiṁcitsāmyena sādhanopacārādadoṣaḥ ityetacca tatraiva nirloṭhayiṣyāmaḥ| caśabdaḥ samuccaye| evakāro'vadhāraṇe| sa cānyayogavyavacchedārtha ityetaddarśayiṣyāmaḥ| tathā ābhāsanamābhāsaḥ| saha ābhāsena vartate sābhāsam| sābhāsaśabdaḥ pratyekamabhisaṁbadhyate|
sādhanaṁ sābhāsaṁ dūṣaṇaṁ sābhāsam| tatra sādhanābhāsaṁ pakṣābhāsādi| vakṣyati ca| sādhayitumiṣṭo'pi pratyakṣādiviruddhaḥ pakṣābhāsa ityādi| dūṣaṇābhāsaṁ cābhūtasādhanadoṣodbhāvanāni|
vakṣyati ca abhūtasādhanadoṣodbhāvanāni dūṣaṇābhāsānīti|| parasaṁvide ityatra pare prāśnikāḥ saṁvedanaṁ saṁvid avabodha ityarthaḥ| pareṣāṁ saṁvit parasaṁvit tasyai parasaṁvide parāvabodhāya| iyaṁ tādarthye caturthī| yathā yūpāya dāruḥ| iti padārthaḥ|| vākyarthastvayam| sādhanadūṣaṇe eva sābhāse parasaṁvide parāvabodhāya na pratyakṣānumāne|
parasaṁvitphalatvāttayoḥ| yathā pārtha eva dhanurdharaḥ pārthe dhanurdhārayati sati ko'nyo dhanurdhārayati iti|| pratyakṣam ityatra akṣamindriyaṁ tataśca pratigatamakṣaṁ pratyakṣaṁ kāryatvenendriyaṁ prati gatamityarthaḥ| idaṁ ca vakṣyati pratyakṣaṁ kalpanāpoḍham ityādi| tathā mīyate aneneti mānaṁ paricchedyata ityarthaḥ| anuśabdaḥ paścādarthe| paścānmānaṁ anumānam|
pakṣadharmagrahaṇasaṁbandhasmaraṇapūrvakamityarthaḥ| vakṣyati ca trirūpālliṅgālliṅgini jñānamanumānam| caśabdaḥ pūrvavat| sābhāsam ityādi| vakṣyati ca kalpanājñānamarthāntare pratyakṣābhāsam ityādi| tathā hetvābhāsapūrvakaṁ jñānamanumānābhāsam ityādi ca| tu śabdastvevakārārthaḥ| sa cāvadhāraṇa iti darśayiṣyāmaḥ|| ātmasaṁvide iti| atatītyātmā jīvaḥ| saṁvedanaṁ saṁvit| ātmanaḥ saṁvit ātmasaṁvit| tasyai ātmasaṁvide ātmāvabodhāya| ātmā ceha cittacaittasaṁtānarūpaḥ parigṛhyate na tu paraparikalpito nittyatvādidharmā|
tatpratipādakapramāṇābhāvāt| iti padārthaḥ|| vākyārthastvayam| pratyakṣānumāne eva sābhāse ātmasaṁvide ātmāvabodhāya na sādhanadūṣaṇe ātmasaṁvitphalatvāt tayoḥ| āha nanu sādhanamapi vastuto'numānameva tataścānumānamityādyukte sādhanābhidhānaṁ na yujyate asminvā prāgukte anumānābhidhānamiti| naiṣa doṣaḥ| svārthaparārthabhedanābhidhānāt| tatra sādhanaṁ parārthamanumānamidaṁ punaḥ svārtham| aparastvāha| ādau sādhanadūṣaṇābhidhānamayuktaṁ pratyakṣānumānapuraḥsarattvāttatprayogasya| ucyate| satyapi tatpuraḥsaratve śāstrārambhasya parasaṁvitpradhānatvātsādhanadūṣaṇayorapi tatphalatvātpratyāsatterādāvupanyāsaḥ| parārthanibandhanaḥ svārtha iti nyāyapradarśanārthamanye||
kṛtaṁ prasaṅgena| prakṛtaṁ prastumaḥ|| iha ca sādhanādayo'ṣṭau padārthāḥ abhidheyatayā uktāḥ| parasaṁvittyātmasaṁvittyoratra prayojanatvena saṁbandhaśca sāmarthyagamya eva| sa ca kāryakāraṇalakṣaṇaḥ| kāraṇaṁ vacanarūpāpannaprakaraṇameva| kāryaṁ tu prakaraṇārthaparijñānam| tathāhīdamasya kāryamiti saṁbandhalakṣaṇā ṣaṣṭhī| āha-yadyevaṁ parasaṁvittyātmasaṁvittyoḥ prakaraṇārthaparijñānena vyavahitatvādaprayojanatvamiti| na| vyavahitasyaiva vivakṣitatvāt| kimarthaṁ vyavahitameva vivakṣitamiti| ucyate| uttarottaraprayojanānāṁ prādhānyakhyāpanārtham| tathā cehānuttaraprayojanaṁ paramagatiprāptireva| tathā coktam|
samyaṅnyāyaparijñānāddheyopādeyavedinaḥ|
upādeyamupādāya gacchanti paramāṁ gatim||
āha-yadyevamihānuttaramevedaṁ kasmānnopanyastamiti| ucyate| avyutpannaṁ vineyagaṇamadhikṛtya tatprathamatayaiva tasyāprayojakatvāt|| aparastvāha| idamiha śrotaṇāṁ prayojanamuktaṁ kartustarhi kiṁ prayojanamiti vācyam| ucyate| tasyāpyanantaraparabhedabhinnamidameva| anantaraṁ tāvatsattvānugrahaḥ| paraṁparaṁ tu paramagatiprāptireva| tathā coktam|
samyaṅnyāyopadeśena yaḥ sattvānāmanugraham|
karoti nyāyabāhyānāṁ sa prāpnotyacirācchivam||
alaṁ vistareṇa||
iti śāstrasaṁgrahaḥ| itiśabdaḥ parisamāptivācakaḥ| etāvāneva| śiṣyate'nena tattvamiti śāstramadhikṛtameva; arya(rthya)ta ityarthaḥ| śāstrasyārthaḥ śāstrārthaḥ| tasya sagrahaḥ śāstrārthasaṁgrahaḥ| saṁgrahaṇaṁ saṁgrahaḥ| etāvānevādhikṛtaśāstrārthasaṁkṣepa ityarthaḥ| śāstrato cāsyālpagranthasyāpi viśvavyāpakanyāyānuśāsanāditi vṛddhavādaḥ||
tatra yathoddeśastathā nirdeśa iti kṛtvā sādhanasvarūpāvadhāraṇāyāha|| tatra pakṣādivacanāni sādhanam| tatraśabdo nirdhāraṇārthaḥ| tatra teṣu sādhanādiṣu sādhanaṁ tāvannirdhāryate iti| nirdhāraṇaṁ ca jātiguṇakriyānimittamiti| atra guṇanimittaṁ sādhanatvena guṇena nirdhāryate iti| gomaṇḍalādiva gauḥ kṣīrasaṁpannatvena guṇena|| pacyate iti pakṣaḥ| paca vyaktīkaraṇe| pacyate vyaktīkriyate yo'rthaḥ sa pakṣaḥ| sādhya ityarthaḥ| sa ca dharmaviśiṣṭo dharmī| pakṣa ādiryeṣāṁ te pakṣādayaḥ| ayaṁ bahubrīhiḥ samāsaḥ|
ayaṁ ca tadguṇasaṁvijñānaśca bhavati| tatra tadguṇasaṁvijñāno yathā lambakarṇa ityādi| lambau karṇau yasyāsau lambakarṇaḥ| lambakarṇatvaṁ ca tasyaiva guṇa ityarthaḥ| atadguṇasaṁvijñāno yathā parvatādikaṁ kṣetramityādi| parvata ādiryasya tatparvatādikaṁ kṣetram| na parvataḥ kṣetraguṇaḥ| kiṁ tarhi| upalakṣaṇamātramiti bhāvanā|
ayamiha tadguṇasaṁvijñāno bahuvrīhirveditavyaḥ| yathā parvatādikaṁ kṣetraṁ nadyādikaṁ vanamiti| na punaryathā lambakarṇaḥ brāhmaṇādayo varṇā iti| pakṣādivacanāni sādhanamityādiśabda upalakṣaṇārthaḥ| asya cāyamarthaḥ| ādīyate'smādityādiḥ yathā parvatādikaṁ kṣetramityādau| na punarādīyate ityādiḥ yathā brāhmaṇādayo varṇā ityadāviti| tataḥ susthitamidaṁ pakṣaḥ ādiryeṣāṁ te pakṣādayaḥ|| te ca pakṣopalakṣitā hetudṛṣṭāntāḥ| teṣāṁ vacanānyuktayaḥ|| kiṁ sādhanamiti|
iha ca yadā sādhyate'neneti sādhanaṁ karaṇābhidhānārthaḥ sādhanaśabdastadā pakṣopalakṣitāni hetutvādivacanāni sādhanam| yatastaiḥ karaṇabhūtairvivakṣito'rthaḥ parasaṁtāne pratipādyate| yadā punarbhāvasādhanaḥ siddhiḥ sādhanamiti tadā pakṣādivacanajanyaṁ pratipādyagataṁ jñānameva sādhanam| tatphalatvātpakṣādivacanānām| kārye kāraṇopacārāt| yathedaṁ me śarīraṁ paurāṇāṁ karmeti| yadā tu kartṛsādhanaḥ sādhayatīti sādhanaṁ tadā pakṣādivacanānyeva kartṛtvena vivakṣyante pratipādyasaṁtāne jñānotpādakatvāt iti| tadevaṁ pakṣādivacanāni sādhanam| tadyathā vṛkṣā vanaṁ hastyādayaḥ senā| āha| ekavacananirdeśaḥ kimarthamucyate| samuditānāmeva pakṣādivacanānāṁ sādhanatvakhyāpanārtham| uktaṁ ca diṅnāgācāryeṇa sādhanamiti caikavacananirdeśaḥ samastasādhanatvakhyāpanārthaḥ| ityalaṁ vistareṇa||
evaṁ tāvatsāmānyena sādhanamuktam| idaṁ ca na jñāyate kiṁ kārakamuta vyañjakam| sādhanasya dvaividhyadarśanāt| tatra kārakaṁ vījādyaṅkurādeḥ| vyañjakaṁ pradīpādi tamasi ghaṭādīnām| ato vyañjakatvapratipādanāyāha| pakṣahetudṛṣṭāntavacanairhi prāśnikānāmapratīto'rthaḥ pratipādyate iti|| asya gamanikā| pacyate iti pakṣaḥ| hinotīti hetuḥ| hi gatau| sarve gatyarthāḥ jñānārthāḥ| tathā dṛṣṭamarthamantaṁ nayatīti dṛṣṭāntaḥ| sa ca dvidhā sādharmyevaidharmyabhedāt| tataścaivaṁ samāsaḥ| dṛṣṭāntaśca dṛṣṭāntaśca dṛṣṭāntau| hetuśca dṛṣṭāntau ca hetudṛṣṭāntāḥ| pakṣasya hetudṛṣṭāntāḥ pakṣahetudṛṣṭāntāḥ| teṣāṁ vacanāni pakṣahetudṛṣṭāntavacanāni| taiḥ pakṣahetudṛṣṭāntavacanaiḥ| hiśabdo yasmādarthe| praśneniyuktāḥ prāśnikā vidvāṁsaḥ| svasamayaparasamayavedinaḥ| uktaṁ ca-
svasamayaparasamayajñāḥ kulajāḥ pakṣadvayasthitāḥ kṣamiṇaḥ|
vādapatheṣvabhiyuktāstulāsamāḥ prāśnikāḥ proktāḥ||
teṣāṁ prāśnikānāmapratīto'navagato'navabuddho'rthaḥ pratipādyate| āha| ye yathoktāḥ prāśnikāḥ kathaṁ teṣāṁ kaścidapratīto'rtha iti| ucyate| na tatparijñānamaṅgīkṛtyāpratītaḥ| kiṁtu vādiprativādipakṣaparigrahasamarthanāsahastadantargata ityato'pratīto'rthaḥ pratipādyate| nanu cātra cāturthyā kriyayā ceti vaktavyalakṣaṇayā bhavitavyaṁ tatkimartha ṣaṣṭhyatrocyate| kārakāṇāmavivakṣā śeṣa iti śeṣalakṣaṇā ṣaṣṭhī| keṣāṁ pratipādyate| sāmarthyādyeṣāmapratītaḥ anyeṣāmaśrutatvātteṣāmeva pratipādyate|
itiśabdastasmādarthe| yasmādevaṁ tasmādvyañjakamidaṁ sādhanamapratītārthapratipādakatvāt pradīpavat| vyatireke bījādi|| tatra pakṣādivacanāni sādhanam ityuiktam|| adhunā yathoddeśaṁ nirdeśa itinyāyamāśritya pakṣalakṣaṇapratipādanāyāha| tatra pakṣaḥ prasiddho dharmī| asya gamanikā| tatraśabdo nirdhāraṇārthaḥ| nirdhāraṇaṁ ca prasiddhadharmitvādiguṇato'vaseyamiti| pakṣa iti lakṣyanirdeśaḥ| dharmīti| dharmāḥ kṛtakatvādayaste'sya vidyante iti dharmī śabdādiḥ| kathaṁ prasiddha ityata āha| prasiddhaviśeṣaṇaviśiṣṭatayā svayaṁ sādhyatvenepsitaḥ| tatra prasiddhaṁ vādiprativādibhyāṁ pramāṇabalena pratipannam| viśiṣyate'neneti viśeṣaṇam| tena viśiṣṭaḥ prasiddhaviśeṣaṇaviśiṣṭaḥ|
tadbhāvaḥ prasiddhaviśeṣaṇaviśiṣṭatatā| tayā prasiddhaviśeṣaṇaviśiṣṭatayā hetubhūtayā prasiddhaḥ| atrāha| iha dharmiṇastāvatprasiddhatā yuktā viśeṣaṇasya tvanityatvāderna yujyate| sādhyatvāt| anyathā vivādābhāvena sādhanaprayogānupapatteḥ| naitadevam| samyagarthānavabodhāt| iha prasiddhatā viśeṣaṇasya na tasminneva dharmiṇi samāśrīyate kiṁtu dharmyantare ghaṭādau| tataśca yathoktadoṣānupapattiḥ| tathā svayamityanenābhyupagamasiddhāntaparigrahaḥ|| sādhyatvenepsita iti| sādhanīyaḥ sādhayitavyaḥ sādhanamarhatīti vā sādhyaḥ| tasya bhāvaḥ sādhyatvama| tena sādhyatvena| īpsitaḥ abhimataḥ iṣṭa icchāyā vyāpta ityarthaḥ| iha ca viśeṣaṇasya vyavacchedakatvātprasiddho dharmītyanenāprasiddhaviśeṣaṇasya pakṣābhāsasya vyavacchedo draṣṭavyaḥ| prasiddhaviśepaṇaviśiṣṭayetyanena tvaprasiddhaviśeṣaṇasya ubhayena cāprasiddhobhayasya svayamityanena cābhyupagamasiddhāntaparigraheṇa sarvatantrapratitantrādhikaraṇasiddhāntānāṁ vyavacchedo draṣṭavyaḥ| iha tu śastranirapekṣavādinorlokaprasiddhayordharmadharmiṇoḥ parigrahavacanamabhyupagamasiddhāntastaṁ svayamityanenāha| tataścayadapi svayamiti vādinā yastadā sādhanamāha| etena yadyapi kvacicchāstre sthtiaḥ sādhanamāha tacchāstrakāreṇa tasmindharmiṇyanekadharmābhyupagame'pi yastadā'nena vādinā dharmaḥ sādhayitumiṣṭaḥ sa eva sādhyo netara ityuktaṁ bhavatīti yaduktaṁ vādimukhyena tadapi saṁgatameva| sādhyatveneti sādhyatvenaiva na sādhanatvenāpi| anena ca sādhyahetudṛṣṭāntābhāsānāṁ pakṣatvavyudāsaḥ| īpsita ityanena ca noktamātrasyaivetyuktaṁ bhavati| icchayā'pi vyāptaḥ pakṣaḥ| ityetacca parārthāścakṣurādaya ityatra darśayiṣyāmaḥ| ityanena dharmaviśiṣṭo dharmī pakṣa ityāveditaṁ bhavati| tataśca na dharmamātraṁ na dharmī kevalaḥ na svatantramubhayaṁ na ca tayoḥ saṁbandhaḥ kiṁtu dharmadharmiṇorviśeṣaṇaviśeṣyabhāva iti bhāvārthaḥ||
iha coktalakṣaṇayoge satyapyaśrāvaṇaḥ śabda ityevamādīnāmapi pratyakṣāviruddhānāṁ pakṣatvaprāptyātivyāptirnāma lakṣaṇadoṣaḥ prāpnotītyastannivṛttyarthamāha| pratyakṣādyaviruddha iti vākyaśeṣaḥ| pratyakṣādibhiraviruddhaḥ| ādiśabdādanuktānumānādiparigrahaḥ| ityayaṁ vākyaśeṣo vākyādhyāhāro draṣṭavya iti| udāharaṇopadarśanāyāha tadyathā| anityaḥ śabdo nityo veti| tadyathetyudāharaṇopanyāsārtham| tatra bauddhāderanityaḥ śabdo vaiyākaraṇādernitya iti| ukta sodāharaṇaḥ pakṣaḥ|
sāṁprataṁ hetumabhidhitsurāha hetustrirūpaḥ| tatra hinoti gamayati jijñāsitadharmaviśiṣṭānarthāniti hetuḥ| sa ca trirūpaḥ| trīṇi rūpāṇi yasyāsau trirūpaḥ trisvabhāva ityarthaḥ| ekasya vastuno nānātvamapaśyan pṛcchaka āha kiṁ punastrirūpyam| kimiti paripraśne| punariti vitarke| trirūpasya bhāvastrairūpyam| evaṁ pṛcchakena pṛṣṭaḥ sannāhācāryaḥ pakṣadharmatvaṁ sapakṣe sattvaṁ vipakṣe cāsattvameva| asya gamanikā| uktalakṣaṇaḥ pakṣatasya dharmaḥ pakṣadharmastadbhāvaḥ pakṣadharmatvam| pakṣaśabdena cātra kevalo dharmyeva'bhidhīyate| avayave samudāyopacārāt| idamekaṁ rūpam| tathā sapakṣe sattvam| sapakṣo vakṣyamāṇalakṣaṇaḥ| tasminsattvamastitvaṁ sāmānyena bhāva ityarthaḥ| idaṁ dvitīyaṁ rūpam| tathā vipakṣe cāsattvamiti tṛtīyaṁ rūpam| vipakṣo vakṣyamāṇalakṣaṇastasminpunarasattvamevāvidyamānataiva| caśabdaḥ punaḥśabdārthaḥ| sa ca viśeṣārtha iti darśitameva| āha ihaivāvadhāraṇe'bhidhānaṁ kimartham| ucyate| atraivaikāntāsattvapratipādanārtham|
sapakṣe tvekadeśe'pi sattvamaduṣṭameveti| tathā ca satyekāntato vipakṣavyāvṛttāḥ sapakṣaikadeśavyāpino'pi prayatnānantarīyakatvādayaḥ samyagghetava evetyāveditaṁ bhavati|| sapakṣe sattvamityādi yaduktaṁ tatra sapakṣavipakṣayoḥ svarūpamajānāno vineyaḥ pṛcchati| kaḥ punaḥ sapakṣaḥ ko vā vipakṣa iti| ayaṁ tu praśno nigadasiddha eva| nirvacanaṁ tvidaṁ sādhyadharmetyādi| asya gamanikā| ihopacāravṛttyā dharme sādhyatvamadhikṛtyocyate| sādhyaścāsau dharmaśca sādhyadharmaḥ| anityatvādiḥ| samānaḥ sadṛśastasya bhāvaḥ sāmānyaṁ tulyatā| sādhyadharmasya sādhyadharmeṇa vā sāmānyaṁ sādhyadharmasāmānyam| tena samāno'rthaḥ sapakṣa iti| samaṁ tulyaṁ mānamasyeti samānaḥ| tulyamānaparicchedya iti bhāvanā| artho ghaṭādiḥ| na tu vacanamātram| samānaḥ pakṣaṁ sapakṣa iti| athavā upacāravṛttyā dharmiṇi sādhyatvamadhikriyate|
tataśca| sādhyasya dharmaḥ sādhyadharmaḥ| śeṣaṁ pūrvavat| anupacaritaṁ tu sādhyam| dharmaviśiṣṭo dharmīti bhāvārthaḥ|| sāṁprataṁ sapakṣasyaiva udāharaṇamupadarśayannāha| tadyathā anitye śabde sādhye ityādi| tadyathetyudāharaṇopanyāsārthaḥ| anitye śabde sādhye kim ?| ghaṭādiranityaḥ padārthasaṁghātaḥ sapakṣaḥ| sādhyānityātvasamānatvāt|| adhunā vipalakṣaṇapratipādanāyāha| vipakṣo yatra sādhyaṁ nāsti| visadṛśaḥ pakṣo vipakṣaḥ| sa kīdṛgiti svarūpato darśayati| yatra yasminnarthe| sādhanīyaṁ sādhyam| nāsti na vidyate| iha ca sādhyapratibandhatvāt sādhanasya tadapi nāstīti gamyate| udāharaṇaṁ darśayati| yathā yannityamityādi| tatra yannityamiti kimuktaṁ bhavati ?| yadanityaṁ na bhavati tadakṛtakaṁ dṛṣṭamiti| tatkṛtakamapi na dṛṣṭam yathākāśamiti| tatra hi sādhyabhāvāt sādhanābhāvaḥ| sāṁprataṁ vicitratvādavadhāraṇavidheḥ vipakṣadharmatvādiṣu tamupadarśayannāha| tatra kṛtakatvamityādi| tatreti pūrvavat| kṛtakatvaṁ prayatnānantarīyakatvaṁ vā anityādau heturiti yogaḥ| tatra kriyate iti kṛtakaḥ| apekṣitaparavyāpāro hi bhāvaḥ svabhāvaniṣpattau kṛtaka iti| tadbhāvaḥ kṛtakatvam| prayatnāntarīyakatvaṁ vā iti| prayatnaścetanāvato vyāpāraḥ| tasya prayatnānantaraṁ tatra bhāvo jāta iti vā prayatnānantarīyaḥ| sa eva prayatnānantarīyakaḥ| tadbhāvaḥ prayatnānantarīyakatvam|
vāśabdaḥ caśabdārthaḥ| sa ca samuccaye| dvitīyahetvabhidhānaṁ vipakṣavyāvṛttaḥ| sapakṣaikadeśavṛttirapi samyaggheturyathā| yameveti darśanārthatvādaduṣṭamiti| ayaṁ ca hetuḥ kiṁ pakṣadharma eva na tu pakṣasyaiva dharmaḥ| ayogavyavacchedamātraphalatvādavadhāraṇasya| yathā caitro dhanurdhara eva| anena cāsiddhānāṁ caturṇāmasādhāraṇasya ca vyāvṛttiḥ| tathā saphala evāstvanyayogavyavacchedaḥ yathā pārtha eva dhanurdharaḥ| anena tu sādhāraṇādīnāṁ navānāmapi hetvābhāsānāṁ vyāvṛttiḥ| āha| yadi sapakṣa evāsti tataśca tadvyatirekeṇānyatra pakṣe'pyabhāvāt dharmatvānupapattiḥ| na anavadhṛtāvadhāraṇāt| pakṣadharmatvasyāvadhāritvāt| āha| yadyevaṁ vipakṣe nāsti eveti tṛtīyamavadhāraṇaṁ kimartham ?| ucyate| prayogopadarśanārtham| uktaṁ ca| anvayavyatirekayorekamapi rūpamuktaṁ kathaṁ nu nāma dvitīyasyākṣepakaṁ syāditi| prabhūtamatra vaktavyaṁ tattu nocyate| granthavistarabhayāt| gamanikāmātnametat| anityādau heturityatrādigrahaṇāt duḥkhādiparigrahaḥ| ityukto hetuḥ|| sāṁprataṁ dṛṣṭāntamabhidhitsurāha| dṛṣṭānta ityādi| dṛṣṭaṁ tatrārthaṁ antaṁ nayatīti dṛṣṭāntaḥ| pramāṇopalabdhameva vipratipattau saṁvedananiṣṭhāṁ nayatītyarthaḥ| sa ca dvividhaḥ| dve vidhe yasya sa dvividhastadeva dvaividhyam| darśayati sādharmyeṇa vaidharmyeṇa ca| samāno dharmo yasyāsau sadharmā sadharmaṇo bhāvaḥ sādharmyaṁ tena| visadṛśo dharmo yasyāsau vidharmā vidharmaṇo bhāvaḥ vaidharmyaṁ tena| caśabdaḥ samuccaye| tatra sādharmyeṇa tāvaditi| tāvacchabdaḥ kramārthaḥ| yatreti| abhidheyahetoruktalakṣaṇasya sapakṣa evāstitvaṁ khyāpyate| sapakṣa uktalakṣaṇastasmiṁścāstitvaṁ vidyamānatvaṁ khyāpyate pratipādyate vacanena| taccedam| yatkṛtakaṁ tadanityaṁ yathā ghaṭādiḥ iti sugamam| anena sādhanadṛṣṭāntābhāsaḥ| vaidharmyeṇāpi| yatra sādhyābhāve hetorabhāva eva kathyate| yatretyabhidheye| sādhyaṁ anityatvādi tasyābhāve hetoḥ kṛtakatvādeḥ| kim ?| abhāva eva kathyate pratipādyate vacanena| taccedamudāharaṇaṁ darśayati| yannityaṁ tadakṛtakaṁ dṛṣṭaṁ yathākāśamiti sugamam| āha| na saugatānāṁ nityaṁ nāma kiṁcidasti| tadabhāvāt kathaṁ vaidharmyadṛṣṭānta ityucyate ?| nityaśabdenātranityatvasyābhāva ucyate| atreti prayoge dṛṣṭāntavākye vā| kiṁ nityaśabdena anityasvasyābhāva ucyate ?| anityo na bhavatīti nityaḥ| akṛtakaśabdenāpi kṛtakatvasyābhāvaḥ ucyate| iti ca vartate| kṛtakau na bhavatītyakṛtakaḥ| na tu vastu sannityamakṛtakaṁ vāsti| atraivodāharaṇamāha| yathā bhāvābhāvo'bhāvaḥ| yathetyaupamye| bhāvaḥ sattā tasyābhāvo bhāvābhāvaḥ| asāvabhāva ucyate| na tu bhāvādanyo'bhāvo nāma vastusvarūpo'sti evaṁ nityaśabdenātretyādi dārṣṭāntike'pi bhāvitameva|| uktāḥ pakṣādayaḥ||
saha pakṣeṇa viṣayabhūtena hetudṛṣṭāntā ityarthaḥ| eṣāṁ vacanāni| eṣāmiti pakṣopalakṣitānāṁ hetudṛṣṭāntānām| vacanāni ye vācakāḥ śabdāḥ| kim ?| parapratyāyanakāle prāsnikapratyāyanakāle sādhanam| yathā prayogato darśayati| yathā anityaḥ śabdaḥ iti pakṣavacanam| kṛtakatvāditi pakṣadharmavacanam| yat kṛtakaṁ tadanityaṁ dṛṣṭaṁ yathā ghaṭādiriti sapakṣānugamavacanam| yannityaṁ tadakṛtakaṁ dṛṣṭaṁ yathākāśamiti vyatirekavacanam| iti nigadasiddham| yāvat etānyeva trayo'vayavā ityucyante| etānyeva pakṣahetudṛṣṭāntānāṁ vacanāni| traya iti saṁkhyā| avayavā ityucyante| pūrvācāryāṇāṁ saṁjñāntarametat| yathoktaṁ sādhanamavayavāḥ||
uktaṁ sādhanam| adhunā tadābhāsa ucyate| tatrāpi pakṣādivacanāni sādhanamiti pakṣasyopalakṣaṇatvātprathamaṁ pakṣa uktaḥ| ihāpi pakṣābhāsa evocyate sādhayitumityadi| sādhayitumiṣṭo'pi pakṣādiviruddhaḥ pakṣābhāsaḥ| sisādhayiṣayā vāñchitaḥ apiśabdātprasiddho dharmītyādi tadanyalakṣaṇayukto'pi| kim ?| pratyakṣādiviruddhaḥ| virudhyate sa viruddhaḥ| pratyakṣādayo vakṣyamāṇalakṣaṇāstairviruddho nirākṛtaḥ pratyakṣādiviruddhaḥ| kim ?| pakṣābhāsaḥ| tasyātroktalakṣaṇaḥ pakṣaḥ ābhāsanamābhāsaḥ ākāramātram| pakṣasyevābhāso yasyāsau pakṣābhāsaḥ pakṣākāramātram| na tu samyak pakṣa ityarthaḥ| tadyathetyudāharaṇopanyāsārthaḥ| pratyakṣaviruddha ityādi| pratyakṣaṁ vakṣyamāṇalakṣaṇam| iha punaḥ pratyakṣaśabdena tatparicchinno dharmaḥ parigṛhyate śālikuḍavanyāyāt| tataśca prasiddharmadharmaśabdalopāt pratyakṣaprasiddhadharmaviruddhaḥ pratyakṣaviruddhaḥ| evamanumānaviruddhaḥ āgamalokasvavacanaviruddhāśceti bhāvanīyamiti|
aprasiddhiviśeṣaṇādiśabdārthamudāharaṇanirupaṇāyāmeva vakṣyāmaḥ| sāṁpratamudāharaṇāni darśayati| tatra pratyakṣaviruddhaḥ ityuddeśaḥ| yathā aśrāvaṇaḥ śabdaḥ ityudāharaṇam| atra śabdo dharmī| aśrāvaṇatvaṁ sādhyadharmaḥ| ayaṁ ca sādhyamānastatraiva dharmiṇi pratyakṣaprasiddhena śrāvaṇatvena virudhyate iti pratyakṣaviruddhaḥ| āha| śrāvaṇatvaṁ sāmānyalakṣaṇatvātpratyakṣagamyameva na bhavati kathaṁ pratyakṣaprasiddhadharmaviruddhaḥ ? iti| atrocyate| bhāvapratyayena svarūpamātrābhidhānātsāmānyalakṣaṇatvānupapatteradoṣa iti| atra ca bahu vaktavyaṁ tattu nocyate| akṣaragamanikāmāphalatvātprayāsasya|| anumānaviruddho yathā| nityo ghaṭa iti| atra ghaṭo dharmī| nityatvaṁ sādhyadharmaḥ| sa cānumānaprasiddhenānityatvena tatraiva dharmiṇi bādhyate| anumānaṁ cedam| anityo ghaṭaḥ kāraṇādhīnātmalābhatvāt pradipavat|| āgamaviruddho yathā| vaiśeṣikasya nityaḥ śabda iti sādhayataḥ| vaiśeṣiko'hamityevaṁ pakṣaparigrahaṁ kṛtvā yadā śabdasya nityatvaṁ pratijānite tadāgamavirūddhaḥ| yatastasyāgame śabdasyānityatvaṁ prasiddham| uktaṁ ca buddhimatpūrvā vākyakṛtirvede tadvacanādāmnāyasya prāmāṇyamityādi|| lokaviruddho yathā| śuci naraśiraḥkapālaṁ prāṇyaṅgatvāt śaṅkhaśuktivat iti| atra naraśiraḥkapālaṁ dharmitvenopādayite| śucitvaṁ sādhyadharmaḥ| sa ca sādhyamānastatraiva dharmiṇi lokaprasiddhaśucitvena nirākriyata iti| āha| iha hetudṛṣṭāntopādānaṁ kimarthamucyate ?| lokasthiterbalīyastvakhyāpanārtham| nānumānenāpi lokaprasiddhirbādhyata ityarthaḥ|| svavacanaviruddho yathā| mātā me vandhyā iti| iha ca mātā sādhyadharmitvenopāttā| vandhyeti ca sādhyadharmaḥ| sa ca sādhyamānastatraiva dharmiṇi svavacanaprasiddhena mātṛtvena viruddhyate| virodhaśca mātṛśabdena prasavadharmiṇī vanitocyate vandhyāśabdena tadviparītā| tataśca yadi mātā kathaṁ vandhyā ? vandhyā cetkathaṁ māteti ?|| tathā aprasiddhaviśeṣaṇo yathā| bauddhasya sāṁkhyaṁ prati vināśī śabde iti| na prasiddhamaprasiddham| viśiṣyate aneneti viśeṣaṇaṁ sādhyadharmalakṣaṇam| tataścāprasiddhaṁ viśeṣaṇaṁ yasmin sa tathāvidhaḥ| evaṁ śeṣepyakṣaragamanikā kāryeti| atra ca śabda iti nirdeśaḥ| vināśīti sādhyadharmaḥ| ayaṁ ca bauddhasya sāṁkhyaṁ prati aprasiddhiviśeṣaṇaḥ| na hi tasya siddhānte kiṁcidvinaśvaramasti| yata uktam-tadetatrailokyaṁ vyakterapaiti nityatvapratiṣedhāt| apetamapyasti vināśapratiṣedhādityādi [yāgasūtra-3, 13 vyāsabhāṣya]| āha| yadyevaṁ na kaścitpakṣābhāso nāmāsti| tathāhi-vipratipattau iṣṭārthasiddhye'numānaprayogaḥ| vipratipattireva caitaddoṣakartrīti kṛto'numānam| atrocyate| na vipratipattimātraṁ taddoṣakartṛ yuktiviruddhatvāt| tathāhi-upapattibhirdṛṣṭāntasādhane kṛte'numānaprayogaḥ iṣṭārthasiddhaye bhavati| nānyathā| punaḥ sādhanāpekṣatvāt| ato dṛṣṭāntaṁ prasādhya prayogaḥ kartavya iti| aprasādhite tu pakṣābhāsaḥ| iti kṛta prasaṅgena|| tathā aprasiddhaviśeṣyo yathā sāṁkhyasya bauddhaṁ prati cetana ātmeti| tatra viśeṣyo dharmītyanarthāntaram| iha cātmā dharmī| cetanatvaṁ sādhyadharmaḥ| iti pakṣaḥ sāṁkhyasya bauddhaṁ prati aprasiddhaviśeṣyaḥ| ātmano'prasiddhatvāt| sarve dharmā nirātmāna ityabhyupagamāt| ākṣepaparihārau pūrvavat|| tathā aprasiddhobhayo yathā| vaiśeṣikasya bauddhaṁ prati sukhādisamavāyikāraṇamātmā iti| ubhayaṁ dharmadharmiṇau| tatrātmā dharmī| sukhādisamavāyikāraṇatvaṁ sādhyadharmaḥ| vaiśeṣikasya hi kāraṇatrayātkāryaṁ bhavati| tadyathā-samavāyikāraṇāt asamavāyikāraṇāt nimittakāraṇācca| tathāhi-tantavaḥ paṭasya samacāyikāraṇaṁ tantusaṁyogo'samavāyikāraṇaṁ turīvemādayastu nimittakāraṇam| itthamātmā sukhaduḥkhecchādīnāṁ samavāyikāraṇam| ātmamanaḥsaṁyogo'samavāyikāraṇam| srakcandanādayo nimittakāraṇam| ityevaṁ vaiśeṣikasya bauddhaṁ prati aprasiddhobhayaḥ| na tasyātmā viśeṣyaḥ siddho nāpi samavāyikāraṇaṁ viśeṣaṇam| sāmagryā eva janakatvābhyupagamāt|
ākṣepaparihārau pūrvavat|| tathā prasiddhasaṁbandho yathā śrāvaṇaḥ śabda iti| prasiddho vādiprativādinoravipratipattyā sthitaḥ saṁbandho dharmadharmilakṣaṇo yasmin sa tathāvidhaḥ| iha śabdo dharmī śrāvaṇatvaṁ sādhyadharmaḥ| ubhayaṁ caitat vādiprativādinoḥ prasiddham| eṣāṁ vacanāni ityādi| eṣāmiti navānāmapi paramārśaḥ| vacanāni| pratijñādoṣā iti saṁbandhaḥ kāraṇamāha| dharmasvarūpanirākaraṇamukhena pañcānāmādyānām| svaṁ ca tadrūpaṁ ca svarūpamityarthaḥ| nirākriyate'neneti nirākarotīti vā nirākaraṇam| pratiṣedhanamityarthaḥ| dharmasvarūpasya nirākaraṇaṁ tattathā mukhamiva mukhaṁ dvāramiti bhāvaḥ| dharmasvarūpanirākaraṇameva mukhaṁ tena dharmasvarūpanirākaraṇamukhena dharmayāthātmyapratiṣedhadvāreṇetyarthaḥ| pratiṣidhyate cāśrāvaṇaḥ śabdaḥ| ityevamādiṣu pañcasu pratyakṣādiprasiddhaṁ dharmayāthātmyamiti bhāvanā| tathā pratipādanāsaṁbhavatastrayāṇām| tatra pratipādyate'nena pratipādayatīti vā pratipādanam| paramapratyāyanamiti hṛdayam| tasyāsaṁbhavaḥ pratipādanāsaṁbhavaḥ tasmāt pratipādanāsaṁbhavataḥ| na ca dṛṣṭāntādyapratipattau pratipādanaṁ saṁbhavati| tathā sādhanavaiphalyataścaikasya| viphalasya bhāvo vaiphalyaṁ sādhanasya vaiphalyaṁ sādhanavaiphalyaṁ tasmātsādhanavaiphalyataḥ| ca samuccaye| tataśca eṣāṁ vacanāni| pratijñādoṣāḥ| pratijñāpakṣa ityanarthāntaram| doṣābhāsa iti ca tulyam| ityabhihitāḥ pakṣābhāsāḥ||
sāṁprataṁ hetvābhāsānabhidhitsurāha| asiddhānaikāntikaviruddhā hetvābhāsāḥ| asiddhaśca anaikāntikaśca viruddhaśca asiddhānaikāntikaviruddhāḥ| hetuvadābhāsante iti hetvābhāsāḥ| yathoddeśaṁ nirdeśa iti nyāyamaṅgīkṛtyāsiddhapratipipādayiṣayāha| tatrāsiddhaścatuḥprakāraḥ| tatra eṣu asiddhādiṣu| asiddhaḥ sidhyati sa siddhaḥ pratītaḥ na siddhaḥ asiddhaḥ apratītaḥ| catuḥprakāraścaturbhedaḥ| prakārāndarśayati| tadyathā| ubhayāsiddha ityādi| tadyatheti pūrvavat| ubhayorvādiprativādinoḥ asiddha ubhayāsiddhaḥ|| anyatarasya vādinaḥ prativādino vā asiddha anyatarāsiddhaḥ|| saṁdihyate sa saṁdigdhaḥ| saṁdigdhatvādevāsiddhaḥ saṁdigdhasiddhaḥ|| āśrayo dharmī so'siddho yasyāsau āśrayāsiddhaḥ| ca samuccaye| itiśabdaḥ parisamāptyarthaḥ|| idānīmudāharaṇānyāha| tatra śabdānityatve ityādi| tatreti pūrvavat| śabdānityatve sādhye anityaḥ śabdaḥ ityetasmin cākṣuṣatvāditi|
cakṣurindriyagrāhyaścākṣuṣastadbhāvaścākṣuṣatvam| tasmādityayaṁ heturubhayāsiddhaḥ| tathāhi-cākṣuṣatvaṁ na vādinaḥ prasiddhaṁ nāpi prativādinaḥ| śrotrendriyagrāhyatvācchabdasya|| kṛtakatvāditi śabdābhivyaktivādinaṁ prati anyatarāsiddhaḥ| śabdanityatve sādhye iti| vartate kṛtakatvādityayaṁ hetuḥ śabdābhivyaktivādinaṁ mīmāṁsakaṁ kāpilaṁ vā pratyanyatarāsiddhaḥ| tathāhi-na tasya tālvoṣṭhapuṭādibhiḥ kriyate śabdaḥ kiṁtvabhivyajyata iti|| tathā bāṣpādibhāvenetyādi| bāṣpo jalādiprabhavaḥ sa ādiryasya reṇuvartyādeḥ sa bāṣpādistasya bhāvaḥ sattā tena bāṣpādibhāvena| saṁdihyamānaḥ kimayaṁ dhūma uta bāṣpa uta reṇuvartiriti saṁdehamāpadyamānaḥ| bhūtasaṁghātaḥ sūkṣmaḥ kṣityādisamūhaḥ| kim ?| agneḥ siddhiragnisiddhistasyāmagnisiddhau| agniratra thūmāditi upadiśyamānaḥ procyamānaḥ saṁdigdhāsiddhaḥ| niścito hi dhūmo dhūmatvena hutavahaṁ gamayati nāniścita iti| tathā dravyamākāśamityādi| ākāśa iti dharminirdeśaḥ| dravyamiti sādhyo dharmaḥ| guṇāścāsya ṣaṭ| tadyathā| saṁkhyā parimāṇaṁ pṛthaktvaṁ saṁyogo vibhāgaḥ śabdeśceti||
tatra guṇānāmāśrayaḥ guṇāśrayastadbhāvastattvaṁ tasmāt guṇāśrayatvāditi| ayaṁ heturākāśāsattvavādinaṁ bauddhaṁ pratyāśrayāsiddhaḥ| dharmiṇa evāsiddhatvāt| tathā ca tasyāyaṁ siddhāntaḥ| pañca imāni bhikṣavaḥ saṁjñāmātraṁ saṁvṛtimātraṁ pratijñāmātraṁ vyavahāramātraṁ kalpanāmātram| katamāni pañca| atītaḥ addhā anāgataḥ addhā pratisaṁkhyānirodhaḥ ākāśaṁ pugdala iti| nanu cānyo'pyasti asiddhaḥ sa ca dvidhā| pratijñārthaikadeśāsiddhaḥ| yathā anityaḥ śabdo'nityatvāt| avyāpakāsiddhaśceti| yathā sacetanāstaravaḥ svāpāt| sa kasmānnoktaḥ| ācārya āha| antarbhāvāt| kva punarantarbhāva iti cait ubhayāsiddhe| tasmādadoṣaḥ| āha| yadyevamasiddhabhedadvayamevāstu ubhayāsiddho'nyatarāsiddhaśceti| śeṣadvayasyātraivāntarbhāvāt| tathā cānyairapyuktam-
asiddhabhedau dvāveva dvayoranyatarasya vā||
ityādi| naitadevam| dharmyasiddhihetusaṁdehopādhidvāreṇa bhedaviśeṣasya siddheḥ| vineyavyutpattiphalatvācca śastrārambhasya| paryāptaṁ vistareṇokto'siddhaḥ|| sāṁpratam anaikāntikaḥ ucyate| sa ca ṣaṭprakāraḥ ṣaḍvidhaḥ| ekānte bhava aikāntikaḥ| na aikāntikau'naikāntikaḥ| ṣaṭ prakārā asyeti ṣaṭprakāraḥ ṣaḍ vidhaityarthaḥ|| bhedānevāha| sādhāraṇa ityādi| anvartham| ityudāharaṇameva vakṣyāmaḥ| tatra sādhāraṇaḥ prabheyatvānnitya iti| tatreti pūrvavat| dvayorbahūnāṁ vā yaḥ sāmānyaḥ sa sādhāraṇaḥ| pramīyate iti prameyo jñeya ityarthaḥ tadbhāvaḥ prameyatvaṁ tasmātprameyatvāt pramāṇaparicchedyatvāt| nitya ityatra śabdākhyo dharmī gamyate| idaṁ ca sapakṣetarākāśaghaṭādibhāvena sādhāraṇatvāt saṁśayanimittamiti| āha ca| taddhi nityānityetyādi| tat prameyatvaṁ dharmaḥ| hi rūpapradarśane| nityaścānityaśca nityānityau nityānityau ca tau pakṣau ca nityānityapakṣau| tayornityānityapakṣayorityarthaḥ| kim ?| sādhāraṇatvāt tulyavṛttitvādanaikāntikam| prayoga eva darśayati| kiṁ ghaṭavat prameyatvādanityaḥ śabdaḥ āhosvidākāśavat prameyatvānnitya iti prakaṭārthaṁ darśayati| aho nāyaṁ saṁśayahetuḥ| etatprayogamantareṇa prāgeva saṁśayasya bhāvāt| tadbhāvabhāvitvānupapatteḥ| uktaṁ ca|

yadi samastayoḥ saṁdehahetutvaṁ tadā'sādhāraṇānna bhidyate| śrāvaṇatvaṁ cāsādhāraṇatvenoktam| atha vyastayostadapi na| vyastayoḥ samyagdhetutvāt| atrocyate| samastayoreva saṁdehahetutvam| nanūktam asādhāraṇānna bhidyate| tanna| yato bhidyata eva| parasparasāpekṣo viruddhāvyabhicārī ceti| ekakaḥ asahāyo'sādhāraṇaḥ| sa cānenāṁśenā''cāryeṇa bhinna upātta iti tasmādadoṣaḥ| uktaṁ ca mūlagranthe dvāvapyetāveko'naikāntikaḥ samuditāveva| anudbhāvite tu tadabhāva iti| atra bahu vaktavyam| tattu nocyate| saṁkṣeparucisattvānugrahārtho'yamārambhaḥ| ityukto'naikāntikaḥ|| sāṁprataṁ viruddhamāhaḥ viruddhaścatuḥprakāra ityādi| virudhyate sa viruddhaḥ| tathā hyayaṁ dharmasvarūpādiviparītasādhanārddharmeṇa dharmiṇā vā virudhyata eveti catuḥprakāraścaturbhedaḥ| tadyathā| dharmasvarūpaviparītasādhana ityādi| tadyatheti bhedopanyāsārthaḥ| śabdārthamudāharaṇādhikāra eva vakṣyāmaḥ| tatra dharmetyādi| tatra dharmasvarūpaviparītasādhano yathā nityeti pūrvavat| dharmaḥ paryāya ityanarthāntaram| tasya svarūpamasādhāraṇāmātmalakṣaṇa dharmasvarūpaṁ tasya viparītasādhana iti samāsaḥ| evaṁ śeṣeṣvapi draṣṭavyamiti| adhunodāharaṇamāha| yathā nitya śabdaḥ kṛtakatvāt prayatnānantarīyakatvādvā ityayaṁ heturvipakṣa eva bhāvadviruddhaḥ| atra dharmasvarūpanityatvam| ayaṁ ca hetuviparītamanityatvaṁ sādhayati| tenaivāvinābhūtatvāt| tathā cāha| vipakṣa eva bhāvādviruddhaḥ| āha ayamapakṣadharmatvādasiddhānna viśiṣyate kathaṁ viruddha iti ?| atrocyate| nāvaśyaṁ pakṣadharma eva viruddhatā anyathāpyācāryapravṛtteḥ| adhikṛtayogajñāpakāt| na cāyamasiddhānna viśiṣyate iti|
viparyayasādhakatvenāsiddheḥ| etatpradhānatvāccopanyāsasya| anyathā'naikāntikasyāpyasiddhatvaprasaṅgaḥ| nityatvādisādhanatvena prameyatvādīnāmapi asiddhatvāt| ityalaṁ prasaṅgena| gamanikāmātrametat| dharmaviśeṣaviparītasādhana ityasyodāharaṇaṁ yathā parārthāścakṣurādayaḥ saṁghātatvāt śayanāsanādyaṅgavat iti| kaḥ punarevamāha?| sāṁkhyo bauddhaṁ prati| iha cakṣurādayo dharmiṇaḥ| ādiśabdāt śeṣendiyamahadahaṁṅkārādiparigrahaḥ| pārārthyaṁ sādhyadharma| asya ca viśeṣo'saṁhataparārthatvamiṣṭam| anyathā siddhasādhyatāpattyā prayogavaikalyaprasaṅgaḥ| saṁghātatvāditi hetuḥ| tatra dvayorbahūnāṁ vā melakaḥ saṁghātastasya bhāvaḥ saṁghātatvaṁ tasmātsaṁghātatvāt| śayanāsanādyaṅgavaditi dṛṣṭāntaḥ| śayanaṁ palyaṅkādi| āsanamāsandakādi| tadaṅgāni pratītānyeva| yathaitadaṅgāni saṁghātatvāddevadattādiparārthāni vartante evaṁ cakṣurādayo'pīti bhāvārthaḥ| adhunā viruddhamāha|
ayamityādi| ayaṁ hetuḥ saṁghātatvalakṣano yathā yena prakāreṇa pārārthyaṁ parārthabhāvaṁ cakṣurādīnāṁ sādhayati tathā tenaiva prakāreṇa saṁhatatvamapi sāvayavatvamapi parasyātmanaḥ sādhayati| tenāpyavinābhūtatvāt| tathā cāha| ubhayatrāvyabhicārāt| ubhayatreti parārthe saṁhatatve ca avyabhicārād gamakatvādityarthaḥ| tathā caivamapi vaktuṁ śakyata eva saṁhataparārthāścakṣurādayaḥ saṁghātatvāt śayanāsanādyaṅgavaditi| śayanāsaṇādyaṅgāni hi saṁhatasya karacaraṇorugrīvādimata evārthaṁ kurvanti nānyasya| tathopalabdheriti| āha vipakṣa eva bhāvādviruddha iti sāmānyaṁ viruddhalakṣaṇaṁ tatkathamihopapadyate ? iti| ucyate| asaṁhataparavipakṣo hi saṁhata iti tatraiva vṛttidarśanāt| kiṁ nopapadyate ?| ākṣepaparihārau pūrvavat|| dharmisvarūpaviparītetyādi| dharmā asya vidyante iti dharmī| udāharaṇaṁ tu yathā na dravyamityādi| kaḥ punarevamāha ? | vaiśeṣiko bauddhānprati| kena punaḥ saṁbandhena ? iti| ucyate| tasya siddhānto dravyaguṇakarmasāmānyaviśeṣasamavāyāḥ ṣaṭpadārthāḥ|
tataḥ pṛthvyāpastejovāyurākāśaṁ kālo digātmā mana iti dravyāṇi| guṇāścaturviśatiḥ| rūparasagandhasparśasaṁkhyāparimāṇāni pṛthaktvaṁ saṁyogavibhāgau paratvāparatve buddhiḥ sukhaduḥkhecchādveṣāḥ prayatnaśceti sūtroktāḥ| caśabdāt dravatvaṁ gurutvaṁ saṁskāraḥ sneho dharmādharmau śabdaśceti| evaṁ caturviśati rguṇāḥ| pañca karmāṇi| tadyathā utkṣepaṇamavakṣepaṇamākuñcanaṁ prasāraṇaṁ gamanamiti karmāṇi| gamanagrahaṇābhdramaṇarecanaspandanādyavarodhaḥ| sāmānyaṁ dvividhaṁ paramaparaṁ ceti| tatra paraṁ sattā bhāvo mahāsāmānyamiti cocyate| aparaṁ dravyatvādi| tatra sattā dravyaguṇakarmabhyo'rthāntaram| kathāpunaryuktyā ? ityatrāha| na dravyaṁ bhāvaḥ ekadravyavattvāditi hetuḥ| sāmānyaviśeṣavaditi dṛṣṭāntaḥ| adhunā bhāvārtha ucyate| na dravyaṁ bhāvaḥ| dravyādanya ityarthaḥ| ekadravyavattvādityatra ekaṁ ca taddravyaṁ ca ekadravyamasyāstīti āśrayabhūtamiti ekadravyavān|
samānādhikaraṇābdahuvrīhiḥ kadācitkarmadhārayaḥ sarvadhanādyartha iti vacanāt| tadbhāvastattvaṁ tasmādekadravyavattvāt| ekasmindravye vartamānatvādityarthaḥ| vaiśeṣikasya hi adravyaṁ dravyaṁ anekadravyaṁ ca dravyam| tatrādravyaṁ dravyamākāśakāladigātmanaḥ paramāṇavaḥ| anekadravyaṁ tu dvayaṇukādiskandhāḥ| ekadravyaṁ tu dravyameva nāsti| ekadravyavāṁśca bhāvaḥ| ityato dravyalakṣaṇavilakṣaṇatvāt na dravyaṁ bhāva iti| dṛṣṭāntaḥ sāmānyaviśeṣaḥ| sa ca dravyatvaguṇatvakarmatvalakṣaṇaḥ| dravyatvaṁ hi navasu dravyeṣu vartamānatvātsāmānyaṁ guṇakarmabhyo vyāvartamānatvādviśeṣaḥ| evaṁ guṇatvakarmatvayorapi bhāvanā kāryeti| tataśca sāmānyaṁ ca tadviśeṣaśca sa iti sāmānyaviśeṣastena tulyaṁ vartata iti sāmānyaviśeṣavat| dravyatvavadityarthaḥ| tataścaitadukte bhavati| yathā navasu dravyeṣu pratyekaṁ vartamānaṁ dravyaṁ na bhavati kiṁtu sāmānyaviśeṣalakṣaṇaṁ dravyatvameva evaṁ bhāvo'pītyabhiprāyaḥ| āha yadi nāma dravyaṁ na bhavati tathā'pi guṇobhaviṣyati karma ca ityetadapi nirācikīrṣurāha| guṇakarmasu ca bhāvāt| tataśca na guṇo bhāvaḥ guṇeṣu bhāvād guṇatvavat| yadi ca bhāvo guṇaḥ syānna tarhi guṇeṣu varteta nirguṇatvād guṇānām| vartate ca guṇeṣu bhāvaḥ| san guṇa iti pratīteḥ| tathā na karma bhāvaḥ karmasu bhāvātkarmatvavat| yadi ca bhāvaḥ karma syāt na tarhi karmasu varteta niṣkarmakatvātkarmaṇām| vartate ca karmasu bhāvaḥ| satkarmeti pratīteḥ| vyatyayopanyāsastu pratijñāhetvorvicitranyāyapradarśanārtham| ityevaṁ vaiśeṣikeṇokte bauddha āha| ayaṁ ca hetustriprakāro'pi yathā dravyādipratiṣedhaṁ sādhayati tathā bhāvasya dharmiṇo'bhāvatvamapi sādhayati|
tenāpyavinābhūtatvāt| tathā cāha| ubhayatrāvyabhicārāt| ubhayatra dravyādipratiṣedhe bhāvābhāve ca gamakatvāt| tathā ca| yatathaidbaktuṁ śakyate na dravyaṁ bhāvaḥ ekadravyatvāt dravyatvavat evamidamapi śakyate bhāvo bhāva eva na bhavati ekadravyatvāt dravyatvavat| na ca dravyatvaṁ bhāvaḥ sāmānyaviśeṣatvāt| evaṁ na guṇaḥ guṇeṣu bhāvāt guṇatvavat| atrāpi bhāvo bhāva eva na bhavati guṇeṣu bhāvāt guṇatvavat| na ca guṇatvaṁ bhāvaḥ sāmānyaviśeṣatvādeva| evaṁ na karma bhāvaḥ karmasu bhāvāt karmatvavat atrāpi bhāvo bhāva eva na bhavati karmasu bhāvāt karmatvavat| na ca karmatvaṁ bhāvaḥ sāmānyaviśeṣatvāt| sāmānyaviruddhalakṣaṇayojanā tu bhāvavipakṣatvātsāmānyaviśeṣasya sukaraiva| āha ayamasiddhānna viśiṣyate iti kathaṁ viruddhaḥ ?| tathāhi| na bhāvo nāma dravyādivyatiriktaḥ kaścidasti saugatānām| tadabhāvāccaśrayāsiddha eva heturiti| atrocyate satyametat| kiṁtu paraprasiddho'pi vipakṣamātravyāpī viruddha iti nidarśanārthatvāt| ekasminnapi cānekadoṣajātyupanipātanāt tadbhedadarśanārthatvānna doṣa iti| āha evamaviruddhabhāvaḥ sarvatra viśeṣaviruddhabhāvāditi| na| virodhino'dhikṛtahetvanvitadṛṣṭāntabalenaiva nivṛteḥ| tathāpyanityaḥ śabdaḥ pākyatvādghatavat pākyaḥ śabda iti viruddhapreraṇāyāṁ kṛtakatvānvitāpākyapaṭādidṛṣṭāntāntarasāmarthyāttannivṛttyā na viruddhatā| anivṛttau cābhyupagamyata eva|
aśakyā ceha tannivṛttirekadravyavatvasya tadvyatirekeṇānyatrāvṛtteriti| atra bahu vaktavyam| alaṁ prasaṅgena|| dharmiviśeṣaviparītasādhano yathā| dharmī bhāva eva tadviśeṣaḥ satpratyayakartṛtvam| yata uktaṁ saditi yato dravyaguṇakarmasu sā sattā| tadviparītasādhano yathā| ayameva heturekadravyavattvākhyaḥ asminneva pūrvapakṣe na dravyaṁ bhāva ityādilakṣaṇe asyaiva dharmiṇo bhāvākhyasya yo viśeṣo dharmaḥ satpratyayakartṛtvaṁ nāma tadviparitamasatpratyayakartṛtvamapi sādhayati| tenāpi vyāpyatvāt| tathā hyetadapi vaktuṁ śakyata eva bhāvaḥ satpratyayakartā na bhavati ekadravyavattvādravyatvat| na ca dravyatvaṁ satpratyayakartṛ dravyapratyayakartṛtvāt| evaṁ guṇakarmabhāvahetvorapi vācyam| ata evamuktam-ubhayatrāvyabhicārāditi| bhāvitārthameva| ākṣepaparihārau pūrvavat||
uktā hetvābhāsāḥ| sāṁprataṁ dṛṣṭāntābhāsānāmavasaraḥ| te ucyante| tatra yathā dṛṣṭānto dvividhaḥ evaṁ mūlabhedavyapekṣayā tadābhāso'pi tathā| āha| dṛṣṭāntābhaso dvividhaḥ| sādharmyeṇa vaidharmyeṇa ca| dṛṣṭānta uktalakṣaṇaḥ| dṛṣṭāntavadābhāsa iti dṛṣṭāntābhāsaḥ| dṛṣṭāntapratirūpaka ityarthaḥ| tatra sādharmyeṇa tāvaddṛṣṭāntābhāsaḥ pañcaprakāraḥ pañcabhedaḥ tadyathā| sādhanadharmāsiddha ityādi| tadyatheti bhedopadarśanārthaḥ| sādhanadharmo heturasiddho nāstītyucyate| tataśca sādhanadharmo'siddho'smin so'yaṁ sādhanadharmāsiddhaḥ| na tu bahubrīhau niṣṭhāntaṁ pūrvaṁ nipatatīti kṛtvā'siddhasādhanadharmā iti| na vā'hitāgnyādiṣu vacanāt| āhitāgnyādeścākṛtigaṇatvādvikalpavṛtteriti| anye tu sādhanadharmeṇa rahitatvādasiddhaḥ sādhanadharmāsiddhaḥ iti vyācakṣate| na caitadatiśobhanam| evaṁ sādhyobhayadharmāsiddhayorapi bhāvanīyam| anvayādiśabdārthaṁ tūdāharaṇādhikāre vakṣyāmaḥ| sa cāvasaraḥ prāpta eveti yathākramaṁ nirdiśyate| tatra sādhanadharmāsiddho yathā| nityaḥ śabdo'mūrtatvāt| yathetyudāharaṇopanyasārthaḥ| nityaḥ śabda iti pratijñā pakṣaḥ| amūrtatvāditi hetuḥ| anvayamāha|

nanvayamubhayasabhdāvātkathamubhayāsiddha ityāśaṅkayāha| tadasattvavādinaṁ prati| ākāśāsattvavādinaṁ bauddhaṁ prati| sāṁkhyasyetyarthaḥ| sati hi tasminnityatvādidharmacintā nānyatheti|| ananvaya ityādi| avidyamāno'nvayo'nanvayaḥ| apradarśitānvaya ityarthaḥ| anvayo'nugamo vyāptiriti anarthāntaram| lakṣaṇamāha| yatretyādi| yatretyabhidheyamāha| vinānvayena vinā vyāptidarśanena sādhyasādhanayoḥ sādhyahetvorityarthaḥ| sahabhāva ekavṛttimātram| pradarśyate kathyate ākhyāyate| na vīpsayā sādhyānugateṣu heturiti| udāharaṇamāha| yathā ghaṭe kṛtakatvamanityaṁ ca dṛṣṭamiti| ghaṭaḥ kṛtakatvānityatvayorāśraya iti| evaṁ sati āśrayāśrayibhāvamātrābhidhānādanyatra vyabhicārasaṁbhavādiṣṭārthasādhakatvānupapattiḥ| viparītānvaya ityādi| viparīto viparyayavṛttiranvayo'nugamo yasmin tathāvidhaḥ| udāharaṇamāha| yatkṛtakaṁ tadanityaṁ dṛṣṭamiti vaktavye yadanityaṁ tatkṛtakaṁ dṛṣṭamiti bravīti| evaṁ prāksādhanadharmamanuccārya sādhyadharmamuccārayati|āha| evamapi ko doṣaḥ ? iti| ucyate| nyāyamudrāvyatikramaḥ| anyatra vyāptivyabhicārāt| yathā hyanityaḥ śabdaḥ prayatnāntarīyakatvādiyatra yadyadanityaṁ tattatprayatnāntarīyakam| anityānāmapi vidyudādīnāmaprayatnānantarīyakatvāt| ityalaṁ prasaṅgena| ayaṁ sādharmyadṛṣṭāntābhāsaḥ samāptaḥ|| vaidharmyeṇāpi| na kevalaṁ sādharmyeṇaiva| kim ?| dṛṣṭāntābhāsaḥ| prāṅnirūpitaśabdārthaḥ| pañcaprakāraḥ| tadyathā sādhyāvyāvṛtta ityādi| tatra sādhyaṁ pratītaṁ tadavyāvṛttasmāditi sādhyāvyāvṛttaḥ| ākṣepaparihārau pūrvavat| evaṁ sādhanobhayāvyāvṛttayorapi vaktavyam| avyatirekādiśabdārthaṁ tūdāharaṇādhikāra eva vakṣyāmaḥ| sa cāvasaraḥ prāpta eva|| tatra sādhyāvyāvṛttaḥ yathā nityaḥ śabdo'mūrtatvātparamāṇuvat| yathetyudāharaṇopanyāsārthaḥ| nityaḥ śabda iti pratijñā| amūrtatvāditi hetuḥ| vaidharmyadṛṣṭāntābhāsasya prakrāntatvātsādharmyadṛṣṭānto noktaḥ| abhyūhyaścākāśādiḥ|

vaidharmyadṛṣṭāntastu karma| tacca utkṣepaṇādi gṛhyate| tatra karmaṇaḥ sādhyaṁ nityatvaṁ vyāvṛttam| anityatvātkarmaṇaḥ| sādhanadharmo hetuḥ| tameva darśayati amūrtatvamiti| tanna vyāvṛttam| amūrtatvātkarmaṇa iti|| ubhayāvyāvṛttaḥākāśavaditi| nityatvasādhakaḥ prayogaḥ paramāṇvādisādharmyadṛṣṭāntayuktaḥ pūrvavat|vaidharmyadṛṣṭāntastvākāśamiti| tato hi ākāśāt| na nityatvaṁ vyāvṛttaṁ nāpyamūrtatvam| kutaḥ?| nityatvādamūrtatvādākāśasyeti|| avyatireka ityādi| avidyamānavyātirekaḥ avyatirekaḥ anidarśitavyatireka ityarthaḥ| lakṣaṇamāha| yatra vinā sādhyasādhananivṛttyā tadvipakṣabhāvo nidarśyate| yatretyabhidheyamāha| vinā sādhyasādhananivṛttyā prastutaprayoge yadanityaṁ tanmūrtaṁ dṛṣṭamityādilakṣaṇayā| tadvipakṣabhāvaḥ sādhyasādhanavipakṣabhāvamātram| nidarśyate pratipādyate iti yāvat| dṛṣṭāntamāha| yathā ghaṭe'nityatvaṁ ca murtatvaṁ ca dṛṣṭamiti| itthaṁ hyekatrābhidheyamātrābhidhānādvaidharmyāpratipādanādarthāpattyāpi gamyate
pratipattigauravādiṣṭārthasādhakatvamiti|| viparitavyatireka ityādi| viparīto viparyasto vyatireka uktalakṣaṇo yasmin sa tathāvidhaḥ| tameva darśayati| yadanityamityādi| prastutaprayoga eva tathāvidhasādharmyadṛṣṭāntayukte vyatirekamupadeśayan yadanityaṁ tanmūrtaṁ dṛṣṭa miti vaktavye yanmūrta tadanityaṁ dṛṣṭamiti bravīti| āha| evamapi ko doṣaḥ ? iti| ucyate| anyatra vyabhicāraḥ| tathā hyanityaḥ śabdaḥ prayatnānantarīyakatvādityatra yadaprayatnānantarīyakaṁ tannityamiti| vyatireko vidyutā vyabhicāraḥ|| nigamayannāha| eṣāmityādi| yathoktarūpāṇāṁ pakṣahetudṛṣṭāntābhāsānāṁ vacanāni| kiṁ na sādhanam ?| ābhāsatvādeva| kiṁ tarhi ?| sādhanābhāsamiti|| uktaṁ sādhanābhāsam||
adhunā dūṣaṇasyāvasaraḥ| taccātikramya bahutaravaktavyatvātpratyakṣānumāne tāvadāha| ātmapratyāyanārthaṁ punaḥ pratyakṣamanumānaṁ ca dve eva pramāṇe| pratyakṣaṁ vakṣyamāṇalakṣaṇaṁ anumānaṁ ca| asamāsakaraṇaṁ vibhinnaviṣayajñāpanārtham| svalakṣaṇaviṣayameva pratyakṣam| sāmānyalakṣaṇaviṣayamevānumānam| ca samuccaye| dve eva pramāṇe ityanena saṁkhyāniyamamāha| tathāhi bauddhānāṁ dve eva pramāṇe pratyakṣānumāne| śeṣapramāṇānāmatraivāntarbhāvāt| antarbhāvaśca pramāṇasamuccayādiṣu carcitatvānneha pratanyate| adhunā pratyakṣaṇirūpaṇāyāha| tatra pratyakṣamityādi| tatreti nirdhāraṇārthaḥ| pratyakṣamiti lakṣyanirdeśaḥ| kalpanāpoḍhamiti lakṣaṇam| ayaṁ lakṣyalakṣaṇapravibhāgaḥ| tatra pratigatamakṣaṁ pratyakṣam| kalpanāpoḍhamiti| kalpanā vakṣyamāṇalakṣaṇā sā apoḍhā apetā yasmāt tat kalpanāpoḍham| samāsākṣepaparihārau pūrvavat| kalpanayā'poḍhaṁ kalpanāyā vā'poḍhaṁ kalpanāpoḍham| yat iti tatsvarūpanirdeśaḥ| evaṁbhūtaṁ cārthe svalakṣaṇamapi bhavati| āha| jñānaṁ saṁvedanam| tacca nirviṣayamapi bhavati ata āha arthe viṣaye| sa ca dvidhā svalakṣaṇasāmānyalakṣaṇabhedāt| ata āha| rūpādau svalakṣaṇe ityarthaḥ| iha yaduktaṁ kalpanāpoḍhamiti tatsvarūpābhidhānata eva vyācaṣṭe nāmajātyādikalpanārahitam| tadakṣamakṣaṁ prati vartate iti pratyakṣam| tatra nāmakalpanā yathā ḍitthā iti| jātikalpanā yathā gauriti| ādiśabdena guṇakriyādravyaparigrahaḥ| tatra guṇakalpanā śukla iti| kriyākalpanā pācaka iti| dravyakalpanā daṇḍīti| ābhiḥ kalpanābhī rahitaṁ śabdarahitam| svalakṣaṇahetutvāt| uktaṁ ca| na hyarthe śabdāḥ anti tadātmāno vā yena tasminpratibhāsamāne te'pi pratibhāserannityādi| tadakṣamityādi| tadityanena yannirdiṣṭasya parāmarśaḥ| akṣāṇīndriyāṇi|
tataścākṣamakṣaṁ pratīndriyamindriyaṁ prativartata iti pratyakṣam| āha| yathendriyasāmarthyājjñānamutpadyate tathā viṣayasāmarthyādapi tatkasmādindriyeṇaiva vyapadeśo na viṣayeṇeti ?| atrocyate| asādhāraṇatvādindriyasya sādharaṇatvāccārthasyeti| tathā hi| indriyamindriyavijñānasyaiva heturityasādharaṇam| arthastu manovijñānasyāpīti sādhāraṇaḥ| asādhāraṇena ca loke vyapadeśapravṛttiryathā bherīśabdo yavāṅkura iti| uktaṁ ca bhadantena|
asādhāraṇahetutvādakṣaistadyapariśyate ityādi| āha| manovijñānādyapi pratyakṣamityuktaṁ na ca tadanena saṁgṛhītamiti kathaṁ vyāpitā lakṣaṇasya| ucyate| kalpanāpoḍhaṁ yattajjñānarthe rūpādau ityanenārthasākṣātkāritvagrahaṇānmanovijñānaderapi tadavyabhicārātsaṁgṛhītameva tanmānasam| laukikaṁ tu pratyakṣamadhikṛtyāvyayībhāvaḥ| iti kṛtaṁ prasaṅgeṇa| gamanikāmātrametat|| anumānamityādi| anumitiramumānam| tacca liṅgādarthadarśanamāliṅgaṁ punastrirūpamuktam| pakṣadharmatvādi| tasmātrirūpālliṅgādyadanumeye'rthe dharmaviśiṣṭe dharmiṇi jñānamutpadyate kiṁviśiṣṭam ? agniratra dhūmāt anityaḥ śabdaḥ kṛtakatvāt tadanumānamiti| udāharaṇadvayaṁ tu vastusādhanakāryasvabhāvākhyahetudvayakhyāpanārtham| adhunā phalamāha| ubhayatretyādi| ubhatra pratyekṣe'numāne ca| tadeva jñānaṁ pratyakṣanumānalakṣaṇam| phalaṁ kāryam| kutaḥ ?| adhigamarūpatvāt| adhigamaḥ paricchedastadrūpatvāt| tathāhi paricchedarūpameva jñānamutpadyate| na ca paricchedādṛte anyajjñānaṁ phalam| bhinnādhikaraṇatvāt| ityatra bahu vaktavyam alaṁ prasaṅgena| sarvathā na pratyakṣānumānābhyāmanyadvibhinnaṁ phalamastīti| āha| yadyevaṁ pramāṇābhāvaprasaṅgaḥ| tabhdāvābhimatayoḥ pratyakṣānumānayoḥ phalatvāt| pramāṇābhāve ca tatphalasyāpyabhāvaḥ iti|
tatra pramāṇābhāvanirācikīrṣayā''ha| savyāpāravatkhyāteḥ pramāṇatvamiti saha vyāpāreṇa viṣayagrahaṇalakṣaṇena vartate iti savyāpāram| pramāṇamiti gamyate| savyāpāramasyā vidyata iti savyāpāravatī| khyātiriti gamyate| savyāpāravatī cāsau khyātiśca savyāpāravatkhyātiḥ pratītiḥ| tasyāḥ savyāpāravattyāḥ khyāteḥ pramāṇatvamiti| etaduktaṁ bhavati| viṣayākāraṁ jñānamutpadyamānaṁ viṣayaṁ gṛṇhadevotpadyate iti pratīteḥ grāhakākārasya pramāṇateti| anye tu saṁścāsau vyāpāraḥ sadvyāpāraḥ pramāṇavyavasthākāritvātsannityucyate| so'syā vidyata iti sadyāpāravatī śeṣaṁ pūrvavat vyācakṣate| ityukte pratyakṣānumāne|| adhunā pratyekṣābhāsamāha| kalpanājñānamarthāntare pratyakṣābhāsam| etadeva grahaṇavākyaṁ vyācikhyāsurāha| yajjñānaṁ ghaṭaḥ paṭa iti vā vikalpayataḥ śabdāropitamutpadyate| arthāntare sāmānyalakṣaṇe| tadarthasvalakṣaṇāviṣayatvāt| sāmānyalakṣaṇaviṣayatvādityarthaḥ| uktaṁ pratyakṣābhāsam||
sāṁpratamanumānābhāsamāha| hetvābhāsapūrvakaṁ hetvābhāsanimittaṁ jñānamanumānābhāsam| vyabhicārāt| etadeva vyācaṣṭe| hetvābhāso hi bahuprakāra uktaḥ asti vādibhedena| tasmāt hetvābhāsāt yadanumeye'rthe dharmaviśiṣṭe dharmiṇi jñānam avyutpannasya asiddhādisvarūpānabhijñasya bhavati tadanumānābhāsam| ityuktaṁ pratyakṣādicatuṣṭayam|| idānīmuktaśeṣaṁ duṣaṇamabhidhātukāma āha| sādhanadoṣodbhāvanāni dūṣaṇāni| pramāṇadoṣaprakaṭanānītyarthaḥ| bahuvacananirdeśaḥ pratyekamapi pratijñādidoṣāṇāṁ dūṣaṇatvāt| etānyeva daśayīrta| sādhanadoṣo nyūnatvam| sāmānyena viśeṣamāha| pakṣadoṣaḥ pratyakṣadiviruddhatvam| pratyakṣādiviruddhā pratijñetyevamādi| hetudoṣaḥ asiddhānaikāntikaviruddhatvam| asiddho heturityevamādi| evaṁ dṛṣṭāntadoṣāḥ sādhanadharmādyasiddhatvam| tasyodbhāvanamiti| tasya pratyakṣaviruddhahetvādeḥ prakāśanaṁ prāśnikapratyāyanaṁ na tubhdāvanamātrameva| dūṣaṇamiti sāmānyena dūṣaṇajātyanatikramādekavacanamiti| uktaṁ dūṣaṇam|| adhunā dūṣāṇābhāsamāha| abhūtasādhanadoṣodbhāvanāni dūṣaṇābhāsāni| abhūtamavidyamānameva tadyataḥ sādhanadoṣaṁ sāmānyanodbhāvayanti prakāśayanti yāni tāni jātidūṣaṇābhāsāni| etadeva darśayati| saṁpūrṇe sādhane avayave nyūnatvavacanam| nyūnamidamityevaṁbhūtam| aduṣṭapakṣe pakṣa doṣavacanam ityādi nigadasiddham| yāvad etāni duṣaṇābhāsāni kim ?| ityata āha| nahyebhiḥ parapakṣo dūṣyate| kutaḥ ?| niravadyatvātparapakṣasya| ityuparamyate śāstrakaraṇāt||
