[mahāyānasūtrāṇāṁ ya ādikarmikasya caryāniyamaḥ|
tamadhikṛtya saṁkṣepād bhāvanākramastvabhidhīyate||
acireṇa sarvajñatāṁ prāptukāmaiḥ saṁkṣepataḥ karuṇā, bodhicittam, pratipattiśceti triṣu sthāneṣu prayatitavyam|
buddhatvasya aśeṣadharmahetumūlaṁ karuṇaiveti jñātvā sā''dāveva bhāvayitavyā| yathoktam āryadharmasaṁgītisūtre-"atha khalvavalokiteśvaro bodhisattvo mahasattvo bhagavantametadavocat-na bhagavan bodhisattvena atibahuṣu dharmeṣu śikṣitavyam| eko dharmo bhagavan bodhisattvena svārādhitaḥ supratividdhaḥ kartavyaḥ| tasya sarvabuddhadharmāḥ karatalagatā bhavanti| katama ekadharmaḥ ? yaduta mahākaruṇā| mahākaruṇayā bhagavan bodhisattvānāṁ sarvabuddhadharmāḥ karatalagatā bhavanti| tadyathā bhagavan yena rājñaścakravartina-ścakraratnaṁ gacchati tena sarvo balakāyo gacchati, evameva bhagavan yena bodhisattvasya mahākaruṇa gacchati, tena sarve buddhadharmā gacchanti| tadyathā bhagavan jīvitendriye sati anyeṣāmindriyāṇāṁ pravṛttirbhavati, evameva bhagavan mahākaruṇāyāṁ satyāmanyeṣāṁ bodhisattvānāṁ] dharmāṇāṁ pravṛttirbhavati|" iti|
āryākṣayamatinirdeśe coktam-"punaraparam, bhadanta śāradvatīputra, bodhisattvānāṁ mahākaruṇāpyakṣayā| tat kasya hetoḥ ? pūrvaṅgamatvāt| tadyathāpi nāma, bhadanta śāradvatīputra, āśvāsāḥ [praśvāsāḥ] puruṣasya jīvitendriyasya pūrvaṅgamāḥ, evameva mahāyāna-sambhāra-samudāgamāya bodhisattvasya mahākaruṇā pūrvaṅgamā" iti vistaraḥ| āryagayāśīrṣe coktam-"kimārambhā, mañjuśrīḥ, bodhisattvānāṁ caryā, kimadhiṣṭhānā ca ? mañjuśrīrāha-mahākaruṇārambhā, devaputra, bodhisattvānāṁ caryā sattvādhiṣṭhānā|" iti vistaraḥ|
tathā hi tayā preryamāṇā bodhisattvāḥ svātmanirapekṣā ekāntena paropakārārthatayā atiduṣkaradīrghakālike'pi sambhāropārjanapariśrame pravartante| tathā coktam āryaśraddhābalādhāne-"tatra [mahā] karuṇayāpi sarvasattvaparipācanārthaṁ na tat kiñcit sukhopādhānaṁ yanna parityajati|" iti| ato'tiduṣkare pravartamāno nacireṇaiva sambhārān paripūryāvaśyameva sarvajñapadam adhigacchati| tato buddhadharmāṇāṁ karuṇaiva mūlam| mahākaruṇāparigrahādeva buddhā bhagavanto'dhigamya sarvajñapadam aśeṣasya jagato'rtha vikurvāṇāstiṣṭhanta iti nirvāṇāpratiṣṭhāne saiva bhagavatāṁ mahākaruṇā hetuḥ|
sā ca duḥkhitasattvālambanamanaskārabahulīkārato vṛddhim (upayāti)| sarve ca te sattvāstridhātukāvacarāstrividhaduḥkhatayā yathoyogam atyanta duḥkhitā eveti sarveṣveva sattveṣu bhāvanīyam| tathā ca ye tāvannārakāste vividhacirantanadīrghakālikadāhādiduḥkha [nadīṣu] nimagnā eva bhagavatā varṇitāḥ| tathā pretā api duḥsahatīvrakṣuttṛṣādiduḥkha[agni] pīḍābhisaṁśoṣitamūrtayastīvraduḥkham anubhavanti| yena varṣaśatenāpyaśuciṁ kheṭapiṇḍanaṁ ca bhoktuṁ na labhanta ityādi varṇitaṁ bhagavatā| tiryañco'pi paraspara [bhakṣaṇa] krodhavadhahiṁsādibhiranekavidhaṁ duḥkhamanubhavanto dṛśyanta eva| tathā hi kecinnāsikābhedanatāḍāṇabandhanādibhiratantrīkṛtaśarīrāḥ paritaḥ paripīḍayamānāḥ kathamapyanicchanto'pi atidurvahagurubhārodvahanaparikhinnavapuṣaḥ pariklāmyanti, tathāraṇye'pi nivasanto'naparādhāḥ kecit kvacit [artha] to'nviṣya hanyante| nityaṁ ca bhayavivhalamānasastatastataḥ palāyamānāstiṣṭhantītyaparimitam eṣāṁ duḥkhaṁ dṛśyatta eva| tathā mānuṣye'pi nārakaṁ duḥkhaṁ dṛśyata eva| atra ye caurādayo'ṅgacchedaśūlārpaṇodbandhanādibhiḥ kāryanta eva teṣāṁ nārakameva duḥkham| ye ca dāridrayadyupahatāsteṣāṁ pretānāmiva tatkṣuttarṣāḍibhirduḥkham| ye ca bhṛtyādayaḥ parāyattīkṛtātmabhāvāḥ, ye ca balibhirākramya pīḍayante teṣāṁ tiraścāmiva tāḍanāvarodhanādi duḥkham| tathā paryeṣṭikṛtam anyo'nyadrohopaghātādi kṛtaṁ priyaviprayogāpriyasaṁyogakṛtaṁ cāprameyameṣāṁ duḥkham| ye kvacid īśvarāḥ sukhitā iva lapyante te'pi viparyavasānasampado vividhakudṛṣṭigahananimagnā nārakādiduḥkhānubhavahetuvividha kleśakarmāṇyupacinvantaḥ prapātasthāstarava iva duḥkhahetau [api] vartamānāḥ paramārthato duḥkhitā eva|
devā api ye tāvat kāmāvacarāste'pi tīvrakāmāgnisandīptamānasā ākṣiptacittā ivāsvacchacetasaḥ kṣaṇamapi samādhānaṁ cetasāṁ na labhante| teṣāṁ praśamasukhadhanadaridrāṇāṁ kīdṛśaṁ nāma tat sukham ? nityacyavanapatanādibhayaśokopahatāḥ kathaṁ sukhitā nāma ? ye ca rūpārūpāvacarāste'pi yadi nāma kiyatkālaṁ duḥkhaduḥkhatāṁ vyatītāstathāpyatyantaṁ kāmāvacarāṇām anuśayānām aprahāṇāt teṣāṁ punarapi nārakādivinipātasambhavād vipariṇāmaduḥkham astyeva| sarve nāma devamanuṣyāḥ kleśakarmādipāratantryāt te saṁskāraduḥkhatayā duḥkhitā eva|
tadevaṁ sakalameva jagad duḥkhagnijvālāvalīḍham ityavetya yathā mama duḥkhamapriyaṁ tathānyeṣāmapriyamiti cintayatā sarveṣveva sattveṣu kṛpā bhāvanīyā| prathamaṁ tāvad mitrapakṣeṣu pūrvoktā vividhaduḥkhānubhaveṣvanupaśyatā bhāvanīyā|
tataḥ sattvasamatayā viśeṣamapaśyatā'nādimati ca saṁsāre na kaścit sattvo yo na me śataśo bandhurabhūditi paricintayatā vyasteṣu bhāvanīyā| yadā mitrapakṣeṣviva vyasteṣu [api] tulyā karuṇā pravṛttā bhavati, tadā śatrupakṣe'pi tathaiva sattvasamatādimanasikāreṇa bhāvanīyā| yadā ca śatrupakṣe'pi mitrapakṣavat samapravṛttā bhavati, tadā kramaśo daśasu dikṣu sarvasattveṣu [api] bhāvayet| yadā ca duḥkhitabālapriyeṣviva duḥkhoddharaṇecchākārā svarasavāhinī sarvasattveṣu samapravṛttā kṛpā bhavati, tadā sā niṣpannā bhavati mahākaruṇāvyapadeśaṁ ca labhate| yathā akṣayamatisūtre ca varṇitam| ayaṁ ca kṛpābhāvanākramo bhagavatā'bhidharmasūtrādau varṇitaḥ|
tasyaivaṁ kṛpābhyāsabalāt sakalasattvābhyuddharaṇapratijñayānuttarasamyaksambodhiprārthanākāram ayatnata eva bodhicittamutpadyate| yathoktam āryadaśadharmasūtre-"sattvān atrāṇān aśaraṇān advīpān dṛṣṭvā karuṇāyai cittamupasthāpya yāvadanuttarāyāṁ samyaksaṁbodhau cittamutpādayati" iti| yadi nāma parasamādāpanādināpi bodhisattvasya mahāsattvasya bodhicittamutpadyate, tathāpi kṛpāvegato yat svayameva bodhisattvasya bodhicittamutpadyate tad bhagavatā āryatathāgatajñānamudrāsamādhau viśiṣṭataratvena varṇitam|
tadetad bnodhicittaṁ pratipattivikalamapi saṁsāre mahāphalaṁ bhagavatā varṇitam| tathā coktaṁ maitreyavimokṣe-"tad yathāpi nāma, kulaputra, bhinnamapi vajraratnaṁ sarvam ativiśiṣṭaṁ suvarṇālaṅkāramabhibhavati, vajraratnanāma ca na vijahāti, sarvadāridrayaṁ ca vinivartayati| evameva, kulaputra, pratipattibhinnamapi sarvajñatācittotpādavajraratnaṁ sarvaśrāvakapratyekabuddhaguṇasuvarṇālaṅkāram abhibhavati| bodhicittanāma na vijahāti, saṁsārādāridrayaṁ ca vinivartayati" iti|
yo'pi pāramitāsu sarveṇa sarvaṁ sarvathā śikṣitum asamarthaḥ, tenāpi bodhicittam utpādanīyameva, upāyaparigraheṇa mahāphalatvāt| yathā coktam āryarājāvavādakasūtre-“yāsmāt tvaṁ mahārāja, bahukṛtyo bahukaraṇiyaḥ, asahaḥ sarveṇa sarvaṁ sarvathā dānapāramitāyāṁ śikṣitum, yāvat prajñāpāramitāyāṁ śikṣitum| tasmāttarhi tvaṁ mahārāja evameva sambodhau chandaṁ śraddhāṁ prārthanāṁ praṇidhiṁ ca, gacchannapi tiṣṭhannapi niṣaṇṇo'pi śayāno'pi jāgradapi bhuñjāno'pi pibannapi, satatasamitam anusmara, manasikuru bhāvaya| sarvabuddhabodhisattvārya śrāvakapratyekabuddhapṛthagjanānām ātmanaśca atītānāgatapratyutpannāni kuśalamūlāni piṇḍayitvā, anumodasva agrayā anumodanayā| anumodya ca sarvabuddhabodhisattvapratyekabuddhāryaśrāvakāṇāṁ pūjākarmāṇi niryātaya| niryātya ca sarvasattvasādhāraṇāni kuru| tataḥ sarvasattvānāṁ yāvat sarvajñatāpratilambhāya sarvabuddhadharmaparipūraṇāya dine traikālyam anuttarāyāṁ samyaksaṁbodhau pariṇāmaya| evaṁ khalu tvaṁ mahārāja, pratipanna, san rājyaṁ ca kārayiṣyasi, rājyakṛtyāni ca na hāpayisyasi, [bodhisambhārāṁśca paripūrayiṣyāsi]"| ityādi kamuktvāha-“atha khalu punastvaṁ mahārāja, samyaksambodhicittakuśalamūlavipākena anekakṛtyo deveṣu upapanno'bhūḥ| anekakṛtyo manuṣyeṣu upapanno'bhūḥ| sarvāsu ca devamanuṣyopapattiṣu ādhipatyaṁ kārayiṣyasi"| iti vistaraḥ|
yat punaḥ pratipattisāraṁ bodhicittaṁ tad atitarāṁ vipulaṁ phalam iti siddhim| ata eva āryavīradattaparipṛcchāyām uktam-
bodhicittād vai yat puṇyaṁ tacca rūpi bhaved yadi|
ākāśadhātuṁ sampūrya bhūyaścottaritaṁ bhavet||
gaṅgābālukasaṁkhyāni buddhakṣetrāṇi yo naraḥ|
dadyād ratnaprapūrṇāni lokanāthebhya eva hi||
yaścaikaḥ prāñjalirbhūtvā cittaṁ bodhāya nāmati|
iyaṁ viśiṣyate pūjā yasyā anto na vidyate||iti|
yathā āryagaṇḍavyūhe varṇitam-"bodhicittaṁ kulaputra ! bījabhūtaṁ sarvabuddhadharmāṇām" iti vistaraḥ| tacca bodhicittaṁ dvividhaṁ praṇīdhicittaṁ prasthānacittaṁ ca| āryagaṇḍavyūhe varṇitam, tathā-"rdurlabhāste, kulaputra, sattvāḥ sattvaloke ye'nuttarāyāṁ samyaksambodhau praṇidadhati iti| tato'pi durlabhatamāste sattvā ye'nuttarāṁ samyaksambodhim abhisamprasthitāḥ" iti| sakalajagato hitāya buddho bhaveyamiti prathamataraṁ prārthanākārā cetanā tatpraṇidhicittam| yataḥ prabhṛti saṁvaragrahaṇe vartamānāḥ sambhāreṣu dṛśyante tatprasthānacittam|
saṁvaraśca vijñātapratibalasaṁvarasthitāt kalyāṇamitrāt parato grāhyaḥ| asati pratirūpe grāhake buddhabodhisattvān āmukhīkṛtya yathā mañjuśrīyā'mbararājabhūtena bodhicittamutpāditaṁ tathotpādanīyaḥ|
evamutpāditabodhicitto bodhisattvaḥ svayameva dānādi dadāti pratipattau prayokṣyate, na hi svayamadāntaḥ parān damayatīti mattvā| na cāpi vinā pratipattyā bodhiravāpyate| yathoktam āryagayāśīrṣe-"pratipattisārāṇāṁ bodhisattvānāṁ bodhirnāpratipattisārāṇām" iti| āryasamādhirāje coktam-"tasmāt pratipattisāro bhaviṣyāmi ityevaṁ tvayā kumāra, śikṣitavyam| tat kasya hetoḥ ? pratipattisārasya hi, kumāra, na durlabhā bhavatyanutarā samyaksaṁbodhiḥ" iti|
sā ca pratipattirbodhisattvasya pāramitā'pramāṇasaṅgrahavastvādibhedena akṣayamatiratnameghādisūtreṣu vistareṇa varṇitā| tathā laukikaśilpādisthāneṣvapi yāvad bodhisattvena śikṣitavyam| kiṁ punarlokottareṣu dhyānādiṣu| anyathā kathaṁ sarvākāraṁ sattvārthaṁ kuryuḥ| sā ceyaṁ saṁkṣepeṇa bodhiattvasya prajñopāyarūpā pratipattirna prajñāmātraṁ nopāyamātram| yathā āryavimalakirtinirdeśe-"prajñārahita upāya upāyarahitā ca prajñā bodhisattvānāṁ bandhanam" ityuktam| upāyasahitā prajñā prajñāsahitā upāyo mokṣatvena varṇitaḥ| āryagayāśīrṣe coktam-"dvāvimau bodhisattvānāṁ saṁkṣiptau mārgau| dvābhyāṁ mārgābhyāṁ samanvāgatā bodhisattvā mahāsattvāḥ kṣipra manuttarāṁ samyaksaṁbodhim abhisambhotsyante| katamau dvau, upāyaśca prajñā ca|" iti|
tatra prajñāpāramitāṁ tyaktvā dānādipāramitāsaṅgrahavastvādikaṁ sarvameva kṣetrapariśuddhimahābhoga[bahu] parivārasampatsattvaparipākanirmāṇādikasakalābhyudayadharmasaṅgrāhakaṁ kuśalam upāya ucyante| prajñā tu tasyaiva copāyasyāviparītasvabhāvaparicchedahetuḥ| tayā hi samyagupāyaṁ vivicyā'viparyasto yathāvat svaparārthānuṣṭhānād viṣamiva mantraparigṛhītaṁ bhuñjāno na saṁkliśyate| tathā coktamatraiva sutre-"upāyaḥ saṅgrahajñānam prajñā paricchedajñānam|" iti| āryaśraddhābalādhāne coktam-"upāyakauśalaṁ katamam ? yat saṅgrahaḥ sarvadharmāṇāṁ| prajñā katamā ? yat sarvadharmāṇām asambhadena kauśalam" iti| etau prajñopāyau dvāvapi sarvakālameva sevanīyau bhūmipraviṣṭairapi na tu prajñāmātraṁ nopāyamātram| yataḥ sarvāsveva daśasu bhūmiṣu bodhisattvasya pāramitāsamudācāraḥ paṭhito dadhabhūmikādau "na ca pariśeṣāsu na samudācarati" iti vacanāt|
aṣṭamyāṁ ca bhūmau bodhisattvasya śāntavihāriṇo buddhairvyuttthānaṁ tad virudhyeta| tacca tatastatra pāṭhād avagantavyam| [tathā coktaṁ tatraiva sūtre] "tasya khalu bho jinaputra, bodhisattvasya evamimāmacalāṁ bodhisattvabhūmimanugatasya pūrvapraṇidhānabalādhānasthitasya buddhā bhagavantastasmin dharmamukhastrotasi tathāgatajñānopasaṁhāraṁ kurvanti| evaṁ caina bruvanti-sādhu sādhu kulaputra| eṣā paramārthakṣāntirbuddhadharmānugamāya| api tu khalu punaḥ kulaputra, yā asmākaṁ daśabalacaturvaiśāradyabuddhadharmasamṛddiḥ, sā tava nāsti| tasyā buddhadharmasamṛddheḥ paryeṣaṇāya abhiyogaṁ kuru, vīryamārabhasva| etadeva kṣāntimukhaṁ monmokṣīḥ| api tu khalu punaḥ kulaputra, kiṁ cāpi tvayaivaṁ śāntavimokṣavihāro'nuprāptaḥ, imān punaraśāntānapraśāntān bālapṛthagjanān nānākleśasamudācāraprāptān vividhavitarkopahatamānasān samanvāhara, apekṣasva| api tu khalu punaḥ kulaputra, pūrvapraṇidhānamanusmara sattvārthasaṁprāpaṇaṁ jñānamukhācintyatāṁ ca| api tu khalu punaḥ kulaputra, eṣā sarvadharmāṇāṁ dharmatā| utpādādvā tathāgatānāmanutpādādvā sthitaivaiṣā dharmatā dharmadhātusthitiḥ yadidaṁ sarvadharmaśūnyatā sarvadharmānupalabdhiḥ| naitayā tathāgatā eva kevalaṁ prabhāvyante, sarvaśrāvakapratyekabuddhā api hyetāmavikalpadharmatāmanuprāpnuvanti|
api tu khalu punaḥ kulaputra, prekṣasva tāvat tvamasmākaṁ kāyāpramāṇatāṁ ca jñānāpramāṇatāṁ ca buddhakṣetrāpramāṇatāṁ ca jñānābhinirhārāpramāṇatāṁ ca prabhāmaṇḍalāpramāṇatāṁ ca svarāṅgaviśuddhayapramāṇatāṁ ca| tathaiva tvamapyabhinirhāramutpādaya| api tu khalu punaḥ kulaputra, ekastveṣa āloko yo'yaṁ sarvadharmānirvikalpālokaḥ| īdṛśāstu kulaputra, dharmālokāstathāgatānāmaparyantagatā aparyantakṛtā aparyantabaddhāḥ, yeṣāṁ saṁkhyā nāsti, gaṇanā, pramāṇamupaniṣadaupamyaṁ nāsti, tesāmadhigamāya abhinirhāramutpādaya| api tu khalu punaḥ kulaputra, prekṣasva tāvad daśasu dikṣu apramāṇakṣetratāṁ ca apramāṇasattvatāṁ ca apramāṇadharmavibhaktitāṁ ca| tatsarvamanugaṇaya| yathāvattayā abhinirhāramutpādaya| "iti hi bho jinaputra, te buddhā bhagavanta evaṁ bhūmyanugatasya bodhisattvasya evaṁ pramukhānyaprameyāṇyasaṁkhyeyāni jñānābhinirhāramukhānyupasaṁharanti, yairjñānābhinirhāramukhairbodhisattvo'pramāṇajñānavibhaktito'bhinirhārakarmābhiniṣpadayati|' ārocayāmi te bho jinaputra, prativedayāmi| te ced buddhā bhagavantastaṁ bodhisattvamevaṁ sarvajñajñānābhinirhāramukheṣu nāvatārayeyustadevāsya parinirvāṇaṁ bhavetsarvasattvakāryapratiprasrabdhiśca|" iti vistaraḥ|
yacca āryavimalakīrtinirdeśe gayāśīrṣe coktaṁ tadapi pūrvoktaṁ virudhyate, evaṁ sāmānyenaiva tatrābhidhānāt| yat sarvadharmasaṅgrahavaipulye coktaṁ tadapi virudhyate| eva| tatroktam-"sūkṣmaṁ hi mañjuśrīḥ, saddharmapratikṣepakarmāvaraṇam| yo hi kaścinmañjuśrīḥ, tathāgatabhāṣite dharma ekasmin śobhanasaṁjñām utpādayati| ekasminnaśobhasaṁjñām utpādayati| sa saddharmaṁ pratikṣipati| tena saddharmaṁ pratikṣipatā tathāgato'bhyākhyāto bhavati" iti vistaram uktvā āha-"yo'yaṁ maitreya, ṣaṭpāramitāsamudāgamo bodhisattvānāṁ bodhāya taṁ te mohapuruṣā evaṁ vakṣyanti| prajñāpāramitāyāmeva bodhisattvena śikṣitavyam, kiṁ śeṣābhiḥ pāramitābhiriti| te'nyā mupāyapāramitāṁ dūṣayitavyāṁ manyante| tat kiṁ manyase, ajita ! duṣprajñaḥ sa kāśirājo'bhūd yena kapotārtha śyenāya svamāṁsāni dattāni ? maitreya āha, no hīdam, bhagavan| bhagavānāha-yāni mayā maitreya, bodhisattvacaryāṁ caratā ṣaṭpāramitāsaṁyuktāni kuśalamūlānyupacitāni| apakṛtaṁ nu taiḥ kuśalamūlaiḥ ? maitreya āha-no hīdaṁ bhagavan| bhagavān āha, tvaṁ tāvad ajita, dānāpāramitāyāṁ ṣaṣṭiṁ kalpān samudāgataḥ| yāvat prajñāpāramitāyāṁ ṣaṣṭiṁ kalpān samudāgataḥ, tat te mohapuruṣā evaṁ vakṣyanti-ekanayenaiva bodhiryaduta śūnyatānayena" iti vistaraḥ| vairocanābhisambodhau coktam-'tadetat sarvajñajñānaṁ karuṇāmūlaṁ bodhicittahetukam upāyaparyavasānam" iti| tasmādubhayaṁ sarvakālameva bodhisattvena sevanīyam|
evaṁ hi bhagavatām apratiṣṭhitanirvāṇaṁ sidhyati| tathā hi dānāderūpāyasya rūpakāyakṣetraparivārādimahābhogatāphalasampatparigrahād bhagavatāṁ na nirvāṇe'vasthānam| prajñayā ca sakalaviparyāsaprahāṇād na saṁsāre'vasthānaṁ viparyāsamūlatvāt saṁsārasya| anyā ca prajñopāyasvarūpayā pratipadā samāropāpavādāntavivarjanena madhyamā pratipad udbhāvitā| prajñayā samāropāntasya varjanād upāyenāpavādāntasya varjanāt| ata eva āryadharmasaṅgītāvuktam-"lakṣaṇānuvyañjanarūpakāyapariniṣpādanābhirataśca bhavati, na dharmakāyābhisamayamātrābhirataḥ" iti| punaruktam-"prajñopāyajanitastathāgatānāṁ parapratyayataḥ saṁbhavo'nugantavyaḥ" iti|
yat punaruktam-"kolopamaṁ dharmaparyāyam ājānadbhirdharmā eva prahātavyāḥ, prāg evādharmāḥ" iti| tad viparītābhiniveśaprahāṇataḥ prahātavyā ityabhiprāyāduktam, na tu prayojanasampadanārthamapi nāśrayaṇiyam| tathā coktam-"dharmaḥ pragrahītavyo nodgrahītavyaḥ" iti| nonmārgeṇa pragrahītavya ityarthaḥ| yaccāpi kvacid dānādi sāṁsārikaphalatvena varṇitaṁ tat prajñārahitānāṁ dānādīnāṁ pūrvam uktaṁ tāvanmātrakuśalamūlasantuṣṭāṁścādhikṛtyottara kuśalamūle protsāhanārtham| anyathā [ārya-] vimalakīrtinīrdeśaḥ [ādi pūrvoktaḥ] sarva eva virudhyate| tasmāttu dvāvapi prajñopāyau sevanīyāviti sthitam|
tatra prajñāparigṛhītā dānādayaḥ pāramitāvyapadeśaṁ labhante nānyatheti| ato dānadipariśuddhaye samādhānam āsthāya prajñopādānārthaṁ yatnaṁ kurvīta|
tatra prathamaṁ tāvat śrutamayī prajñotpādanīyā| tayā hi tāvad āgamārtham avadhārayati| tataścintāmayyā prajñayānītaneyārthaṁ nirvedhayati| tatastayā niścitya bhūtamarthaṁ bhāvayennābhūtam| anyathā hi viparītasyāpi bhavānād vicikitsāyāścāvyapagamāt samyagjñānodayo na syāt| tataśca vyarthaiva bhāvanā syāt| yathā tīrtīkānām| uktaṁ ca bhagavatā samādhirāje-
nairātmyadharmān yadi pratyavekṣate
tān pratyavekṣya yadi bhāvayet|
sa heturnirvāṇaphalasya prāptaye
yo anyaheturna sa bhoti śāntaye|| iti|
tasmāccintāmayyā prajñayā yuktayāgamābhyāṁ pratyavekṣya bhūtameva vastusvarūpaṁ bhāvanīyam| vastūnāṁ svarūpaṁ ca paramārthato'nutpāda evāgamato yuktitaśca niścitam|
tatrāgamato yathoktam āryadharmasaṅgītau-"anutpādaḥ satyamasatyam anye dharmāḥ" iti| etacca paramārthānukūlatvād anutpādaḥ satyamityuktam| paramārthatastu notpādo nāpyanutpādaḥ, tasy sarvyavahārātītatvāt| punaścātraiva coktam-"utpādanirodhābhiniviṣṭaḥ kulaputra, lokasanniveśaḥ, tasmāt tathāgato mahākāruṇiko lokasyottrāsapadaparihārāthaṁ vyavahāravaśād uktavān, utpadyate nirudhyate ceti na cātra kasyacid dharmasyotpādaḥ" iti| aryabuddhasaṅgītau coktam-"katamā yoniśaḥ pṛcchā, katamā yoniḥ ? āha anutpādo yoniḥ, tasya pṛcchā yoniśaḥ pṛccha"| punaratraivoktam-"cakāramukhaḥ sarvadharmāścyutyutpattivigatāḥ| abhāvamukhāḥ sarvadharmāḥ, svabhāvaśūnyatām upādāya" iti| āryasatyadvayavibhāge cānutpādasamatayā sarvadharmāṇāṁ samatā bhavati| prajñāpāramitāyāṁ coktam-"rūpaṁ subhūte, rūpasvabhāvena śūnyam, yāvad vijñānaṁ vijñānasvabhāvena śūnyamiti svalakṣaṇaśūnyatām upādāya" iti| hastikakṣye coktam-
na kaścillabhyate bhāvo yasyotpādasya saṁbhavaḥ|
asaṁbhaveṣu dharmeṣu bālaḥ sambhavamicchati|| iti|
pitāputrasamāgame coktam-"sarva ete dharmāḥ sarve samāstraikālyasamatayā| atīte'dhvani sarvadharmāḥ svabhāvarahitā yāvat pratyutpanne'dhvani" iti| evaṁ tavad āgamataḥ pratyavekṣaṇīyam| yuktyā hi sthirīkṛtasyā-gamārthasyānyairapohitam aśakyatvāt| ato yuktyāpi pratyavekṣanīyam|
tatra saṁkṣepato yuktirucyate| utpādo bhāvānāmahetuko vā syāt sahetuko vā| na tāvad ahetukaḥ kādācitkatvadarśanāt| kāraṇānapekṣā hi viśeṣābhāvād utpādakālavat sadā sarvatraiva ca bhāvāḥ kiṁ na bhaveyuḥ| abhāvakālād aviśeṣād vā utpādakāle'pi naiva bhaveyuḥ| evaṁ tāvanna nirhetuko yuktaḥ| nāpi sahetukaḥ| tathā hi yastāvadīśvarādistīrthikairnityo hetuḥ kalpitastato bhāvā na jāyante krameṇotpādadarśanāt| na tvavikalakāraṇasya [phalasya] krameṇotpādo yukto nirapekṣatvāt| nāpīśvarādeḥ svayaṁ samarthasya parāpekṣāḥ| nityatvena parairanupakāryatvāt| anupakāriṇi cāpekṣā'yogāt| ata eveśvarādīnāṁ sarvasāmarthyaśūnyatvād vandhyāpūtrādivad niḥsvabhāvatvameva| arthakriyāsamarthatvād vastunaḥ| teṣāṁ kvacidapi kārye na krameṇa sāmarthyaṁ yathā vicāritam| nāpi yaugapadyena, tathā hi sarvakāryaṁ sakṛd utpādyoktarakāle'pi yadyutpattisamartha evāsau tadā punarapi samarthasvabhāvānuvṛttau pūrvavat kāryotpattiprasaṅgaḥ| ananuvṛttau vā pūrvasvabhāvaparityāgād anityatvaprasaṅgaḥ|
tasmānna nityaṁ nāma kiñcid vastu vidyate| ata evoktaṁ bhagavatā-“asatsamāropaḥ punarmahāmate ! ākāśanirodhanirvāṇa [ādi] akṛtakabhāvābhiniveśasamāropaḥ" iti| tasmānna nityād eṣāmutpādo yuktaḥ| nāpyanityāttatrātītānāgatayoravastutvānn tāvattato janma yuktam ahetukatvaprasaṅgāt| nāpi vartamānāt, samānāsamānakālayostata utpādāyogāt| tathā hi na tāvat samānakālaṁ kāraṇaṁ svabhāvavat kāryasyāpi tatsamānakālabhāvitayā niṣpannatvāt| nāpi bhinnakālam, kālantaravyavadhānenotpāde'tītāderevotpattiprasaṅgāt| avyavadhānenāpyutpāde sarvātmānā yadyavyavadhāṇaṁ tadaikasminneva kṣaṇe sarvakṣaṇānām anupraveśāt kalpasya kṣaṇamātratāprasaṅgaḥ| yathā paramāṇoḥ sarvātmanā saṁyogo piṇḍasyāṇumātratāprasaṅgaḥ| athaikadeśaena, tadā kṣaṇasya sāvayavatvaprasaṅgaḥ| svato'pi notpadyante, nirhetukapakṣeṇaivāsya pakṣasya saṅgṛhītatvāt svātmani ca kāritravirodhāt| nāpyubhayataḥ ubhayapakṣabhāvidoṣadvaya [saṅgraha] prasaṅgāt|
tasmāt paramārthato'nutpannā evāmī bhāvāḥ| saṁvṛtyā tūtpādasya vidyamānatvānnāgamādivirodhaḥ| tathā coktaṁ bhagavatā-
bhāvā vidyanti saṁvṛtyā paramārthe na bhāvakāḥ|
niḥsvabhāveṣu yā bhrāntistatsatyaṁ saṁvṛtirbhavet||iti|
iyaṁ ca yuktirbhagavato'bhipretā śālistambādau| svataḥ parata ubhābhyām ahetośca janmaniṣedhāt|
athavā evaṁ yuktyā vicārayet| dvividhā bhāvā rūpiṇo'rūpiṇaśca| tatrāpi tāvad rūpiṇo ghatādayaste'ṇuśo vibhinnarūpatvād naikasvabhāvāḥ| aṇūnāṁ pūrvāparasthitānāṁ pūrvādidigbhāgatvena vibhidyamānānām asiddhāvapyaṇusaṁcayātmakatve nānekasvabhāvo yuktaḥ, na caikānekasvabhāvavyatirekeṇāparaḥ kaścid bhāvasvabhāvo'stīti niḥsvabhāvā evāmī paramārthataḥ svapnādyupalabdharūpādivad rūpiṇo bhavāḥ| etacca bhagavataiva coktam āryalaṅkāvatāre-"goviṣāṇāṁ punarmahāmate, aṇuśo'pi vibhidyamānaṁ nāvatiṣṭhate| punarapyaṇavo'pi bhidyamānā aṇutvalakṣaṇena nāvatiṣṭhante" iti|
ye cārupiṇaste'pi tathaiva vicāryumāṇā niḥsvabhāvā eva| tathāhi, bāhyasya nīlāderarthasyābhāvāt sāmarthyata eva vijñānādayo'rūpiṇaḥ skandhā nilādirūpeṇa pratibhāsanta ityabhyupeyam| uktaṁ ca bhagavatā-
“bahirdhā nāsti vairūpaṁ svacittaṁ dṛśyate bahiḥ|" iti|
tataśca nīlādicitrākāranirbhāsatayā grāhyagrāhakākāranirbhāsatayā naikasvabhāvā amī yuktāḥ| na caikasyānekarūpatā yuktimatī, ekānekavirodhāt| ekasya kasyacit svabhāvasyāsiddhāvanekarūpatā'pyayuktimatī, ekasamūharūpatvād anekasya|
athavā tatrālīkā evāmī rūpādaya ākārāḥ pratibhāsanta ityubyupagamyate, tadā vijñānam apyalīkaṁ prāpnoti| vijñānasya tatsvarūpāvyatirekāt| na hi svayaṁ prakāśamānarūpatāvyatirekeṇānyad vijñānasya rūpamasti| svayaṁ ca na nirbhāsante rūpādayaḥ| teṣāṁ ca vijñānasvarūpāpannānām alīkatve sarvameva vijñānam alīkam abhyupetaṁ syāt| tasmād "māyopamaṁ ca vijñānam" ityuktaṁ bhagavatā|
tasmād ekānekasvabhāvaśūnyatvena paramārthato'līkā evāmī sarvabhāvā iti niścitametat| ayaṁ cārtha ukto bhagavatā laṅkāvatāre-
yathaiva darpaṇe rūpam ekatvānyatvavarjitam|
dṛśyate na ca tatrāsti tathā bhāveṣu bhavatā||iti|
ekatvānyatvavarjitam iti, ekatvānyatvarahitam ityarthaḥ| punaścoktam-
buddhayā vivicyamānānāṁ svabhāvo nāvadhāryate|
ato nirabhilāpyaste niḥsvabhāvāśca darśitāḥ|| iti|
tadevaṁ cintāmayyā prajñayā niścitya bhūtamartha tasya pratyakṣīkaraṇāya bhāvanāmayīṁ prajñām utpādayet| "bahuśrutādimātrakeṇā nārthaḥ pratyakṣo bhavatīti niveditam āryaratnameghādiṣu| anubhavaśca pratipattṛṇām, na cāpi sphuṭatarajñānālokodayam antareṇa samyagāvaraṇatamo'pahīyate| bhāvanābahulīkārataścābhūte'pyarthe sphuṭarajñānam utpadyate| yathā aśubhādipṛthvīkṛtsnādisamāpannānāṁ [jñānodbhavatve] kimpunarbhūte| tathā ca bhāvanāyāḥ parisphuṭajñānaphalatvena sāphalyamuktam āryasamādhirāje-
ārocayāmi prativedayāmi vo
yathā yathā bahu ca vitarkayennaraḥ|
tathā tathā bhavati tannimittacitta-
stehi vitarkehi tanniśritehi || iti vistaraḥ|
tasmāt tattvaṁ sākṣātkartukāmo bhāvanāyāṁ pravartate|
tatra prathamataraṁ tāvad yoginā śamatho niṣpādanīyaścittasthirīkaraṇāya| salilavaccañcalatvāccittasya, na śamathamādhāramanteraṇa sthitirasti| na cāsamāhitena cetasā yathābhutaṁ śakyate jñātum| uktaṁ hi bhagavatā-"samāhitacitto yathābhūtaṁ prajānāti" iti| śamatho lābhādikāmanānirapekṣasya samyakpravṛttau sthirasya duḥkhādyadhivāsanaśilasyārabdhavīryasya śīghrataraṁ sampadyate| ata eva āryasaṁdhinirvocanādau dānādaya uttarottaratvena varṇitāḥ|
tadevaṁ śīlādiśamathasambhāreṣu sthito mano'nukūladeśe sarvabuddhabodhisattveṣu praṇāmādikaṁ kṛtvā pāpadeśanāṁ puṇyānumodanāṁ vidhāya sakalajagadabhyuddharaṇāśayo mahākaruṇām evābhimukhīkṛtya kāyam ṛjuṁ praṇidhāya sukhāsanopaviṣṭaḥ paryaṅkamābhujya samādhimabhiniṣpādayet|
tatra prathamaṁ tāvad yad vastu vicārayitavyaṁ yāvatā prakāreṇa saṅkṣepataḥ sakalavastusaṅgraho bhavati tatra cittaṁ badhnīyat| saṅkṣiptaṁ punarvastu rūpyarūpibhedena dvidha bhavati| etaccādikarmikasya vikṣepadoṣaparihārārtha saṁkṣiptaṁ tāvad yuktam ālambayitum| yadā tu jitamanaskāro bhavati tadā skandhadhātvādibhedena viśodhya vistaraśo'pyālambata eva| tathā sandhinirmocanādau yoginām aṣṭādaśaprakāraśūnyatālambanādibhedena nānāprakāram ālambanam uktam|
atraiva bhagavatā sattvānugrahād rūpyarūpyādibhedena saṁkṣepamadhyavistāraiḥ vastubhedo'bhidharmādau nirdiṣṭaḥ| tacca vastu adhyāropāpavādaparihārāya skandhadhātvādisaṅgrahato gaṇayet| tato niścitya sarvaṁ vastusaṅgrahaṁ tatraiva punaścittaṁ prabandhena prerayet|
yada tvantarā rāgādinā cittaṁ bahirvikṣipet tadāvagamya vikṣepatām aśubhādibhāvanayā vikṣepam upaśāmya punastatraivoparyupari cittaṁ prerayet| aśubhadibhāvanākramastu granthavistarabhayānna likhitaḥ| yadā tu cittaṁ tatrānabhirataṁ paśyet, tada samādherguṇadarśanato'bhiratiṁ tatra bhāvayet| vikṣepadoṣadarśanād aratiṁ praśamayet| atha yadā styānamiddhābhibhavād āalambanagrahaṇāprakaṭatayālīnaṁ cittaṁ bhavati tadā lokasaṁjñābhāvanayā prāmodyavastubuddhādiguṇamanasikārāt [vā] layaṁ upaśāmya punastadevālambanaṁ dṛḍhataraṁ gṛṇhīyāt|
atha yadā pūrvahasitaramitādyanusmarato'ntarā cittam uddhataṁ paśyet, tadā'nityatādisaṁvegamanasikārād auddhatyaṁ praśamayet, tataḥ punastatraivālambane cittasyānabhisaṁskāravāhitāyaṁ yatnaṁ kurvīta| atha yadā layauddhatyabhyāṁ viviktatayā samapravṛttaṁ svarasavāhicittaṁ paśyet tadābhogaśithīlīkaraṇād upekṣate| yadā tu samapravṛtte satyābhogaḥ kriyate, tadā cittaṁ vikṣipet|
yadā tu tatrālambane'nabhisaṁskāravāhi yāvadicchaṁ cittaṁ pravṛttaṁ bhavati, tadā śamatho niṣpanno veditavyaḥ| etacca sarvaśamathānāṁ sāmānyalakṣaṇam, cittaikagratāmātrasvabhāvatvāt| śamathasya| ālambanaṁ tu tasyāniyatameva| ayaṁ ca śamathamārgo bhagavatā āryaprajñāpāramitādau nirdiṣṭaḥ| yad āha-"tatra cittaṁ sthāpayati, saṁsthāpayati, avasthāpayati, upasthāpayati, damayati, śamayati, vyupaśamayati, ekotīkaroti, samādadhāti" iti navapadaiḥ|
tatra sthāpayati, ālambanena badhnāti| saṁsthāpayati, tatraivālambane prabandhena pravartayati| avasthāpayati, vikṣepam avagamya taṁ pariharati| upasthāpayati, vikṣepaṁ parihṛtya uparyupari punastatraivālambane sthāpayati| damayati, ratimutpādayati| śamayati, aratiṁ vyupaśāmayati vikṣepadoṣadarśanāt| vyupaśamayati, styānamiddhādīn vyutthitān vyupaśamayati| ekotīkaroti, ālambane'nabhisaṁskāravāhitāyaṁ yatnaṁ karoti| samādadhāti, samaprāptaṁ cittam upekṣate samanvāharatītyarthaḥ| eṣa caiṣāṁ padānām arthaḥ pūrvācāryaiḥ maitreyeṇa ca vyākhyātaḥ|
saṁkṣepeṇa sarvasaiva samādheḥ ṣaḍ doṣā bhavanti| kauṣidyam ālambanasaṁpramoṣaḥ, layauddhatyam, anābhogaḥ, ābhogateti| teṣāṁ pratipakṣeṇāṣṭau prahāṇasaṁskārā bhavanīyāḥ| tad yathā-śraddhā, chandaḥ, vyāyāmaḥ praśrabdhiḥ, smṛtiḥ, samprajanyam, cetanā, upekṣā ceti| tatrādyāścatvāraḥ kausīdyasya pratipakṣāḥ| tathāhi-samādherguṇeṣvabhisampratyayalakṣaṇayā śraddhayā tatra yogino'bhilāṣa utpadyate| tato'bhilāṣād vīryamarabheta| tadvīryabalena kāyacittakarmaṇyatām āsādayati| tataḥ praśrabdhakāyacetasaḥ kausīdyam āvartate| ataḥ śraddhādayaḥ kausīdyaprahāṇāya bhāvanīyāḥ| smṛtirālambanasampramoṣasya pratipakṣaḥ| samprajanyaṁ layauddhatyayoḥ pratipakṣaḥ| tena layauddhatyayoḥ samyagupaṁlakṣaṇāt| layauddhatyāpraśamanakāle tvanābhogadoṣaḥ tatpratipakṣeṇa ca cetanā bhāvanīyā| layauddhatyapraśame sati yadā cittaṁ praśamavāhi tadā''bhogadoṣaḥ, tatpratipakṣastadānīmupekṣā bhāvanīyā|
ebhiraṣṭābhiḥ prahāṇasaṁskāraiḥ samanvāgataḥ samādhiḥ paramakarmaṇyo bhavati| ṛddhayādīn guṇān niṣpādayati| ata evoktaṁ sūtra-"[aṣṭa] prahāṇa [saṁskāra] samanvāgataḥ ṛddhipādaṁ bhāvayati" iti| eṣā ca cittaikāgratā uttarottarakarmaṇyatāsamprayogād ālambanādiguṇaviśeṣayogācca dhyānārūpisamāpattiḥ vimokṣādivyapadeśaṁ labhate|
tathā hi yadopekṣāvedanāsamprayuktā savitarkasavicārā sā bhavati, tadā'nāgamyā ucyate [prathamadhyānaprayogacittatvāt]| yadā ca kāmatṛṣṇayā pāpadharmaiśca] viviktā bhavati [vitarkavicāra] prītisukhādhyātmasamprasādaiḥ samprayuktā bhavati, tadā prathamaṁ dhyānam ucyate| ata eva prathamadhyānaṁ vitarkamātrarahitaṁ dhyānāntaramucyate| yadā vitarkavicārarahitā prathamadhyānabhūmitṛṣṇayā viviktā ca bhavati| prītisukhādhyātmasamprasādaiḥ samprayuktā bhavati, tadā dvitīyaṁ dhyānamucyate| yadā tu dvitīyadhyānabhūmitṛṣṇayā viviktā bhavati, sukhopekṣāsmṛtisamprajanyasamprayuktā bhavati, tadā tṛtīyaṁ dhyānam ucyate| yadā tṛtīyadhyānabhūmitṛṣṇayā viviktā bhavati| aduḥkhāsukhā upekṣāsmṛtyabhisamprayuktā bhavati, tadā caturthaṁ dhyānamucyate| evam arūpyasamāpattivimokṣābhibhavāyatanādiṣvālambanākārādibhedena yojyam|
tadevamālambane cittaṁ sthirīkṛtya prajñayā vivecayet| yato jñānālokotpādāt sammohabījasyātyantaprahāṇaṁ bhavati| anyathā hi tīrthikānāmiva samādhimātreṇa kleśaprahāṇaṁ na syāt| yathoktaṁ sutre-
kiñcāpi bhāvayet samādhimetaṁ
na co bibhāveyya sā ātmasaṁjñām|
punaḥ prakupyati kileṣu tasya
yathodrakasyeha samādhibhāvanā||iti|
tatrāyam āryalaṅkāvatāre saṁkṣepāt prajñābhāvanākramo nirdiṣṭaḥ-
cittamātraṁ samāruhya bāhyamarthaṁ na kalpayet|
tathatālambane sthitvā cittamātramatikramet||
cittamātramatikramya nirābhāsamatikramet|
nirābhāsasthito yogī mahāyānaṁ sa paśyati||
anābhogagatiḥ śāntā praṇidhānairviśodhitā|
jñānaṁ nirātmakaṁ śreṣṭhaṁ nirābhāse na paśyati||iti|
tatrāyamarthaḥ-prathamaṁ yogī ye rūpiṇo dharmā bāhyārthatayā paraiḥ parikalpitāsteṣu tāvad vicārayet| kimete vijñānād anye, āhosvid vijñānamevaitat tathā pratibhāsate, yathā svapnāvasthāyāmiti| tatra vijñānād bahiḥ paramāṇuśo vicārayet| paramāṇūṁśca bhāgaśaḥ pratyavekṣa-māṇo yogī tān arthānna samanupaśyati| tasyāsamanupaśyata evaṁ bhavati cittamātramevaitat sarvaṁ na punarbāhyo'rthā vipadyate| tadevam-
"cittamātraṁ samāruhya bāhyamarthaṁ na kalpayet|"
rūpidharmavikalpāṁstyajed ityarthaḥ|
teṣām upalabdhilakṣaṇaprāptānāṁ vicārayed anupalabdheḥ| evaṁ rūpiṇo dharmān vibhāvyārupiṇo vibhāvayet| tatra yaccittamātraṁ tadapyasati grāhye grāhako na yukto grāhakasya grāhyapekṣatvad tataścittaṁ grāhyagrāhakaviviktam advayameva cittamiti vicārayed advayalakṣaṇe-
"tathatālambane sthitvā tadapi cittamātram atikramet|"
grahakamākāramatikrameta| dvayanirābhāsa eva advayajñāne tiṣṭhedityarthaḥ|
evaṁ cittamātramatikramya tadapi dvayanirābhasaṁ yajjñānaṁ tadatikrameta| svataḥ parato bhāvānāṁ janmānupapatteḥ grāhyagrāhakayoścālīkatve tadavyatirekāt tasyāpi satyatvamayuktamiti vicārayet| tatrāpyadvayajñāne vastutvābhiniveśaṁ tyajet, advayajñānanirābhāsa eva jñāne tiṣṭhedityarthaḥ| evaṁ sati sarvadharmaniḥsvabhāvatāpratipattau sthito bhavati| tatra sthitasya paramatattvapraveśāt nirvikalpasamādhipraveśaḥ|
tathā cādvayajñānanirābhāse jñāne yadā sthito yogī tadā paramatattve sthitatvāt, mahāyānaṁ sa paśyati| etadeva tat mahāyānam ucyate yat paramatattvadarśanam| etadeva tat paramatattvadarśanaṁ yat sarvadharmān prajñācakṣuṣā nirūpayataḥ samyagjñānāvaloke satyadarśanam| tathā coktaṁ sutre-"katamaṁ paramārthadarśanam ? sarvadharmāṇām adarśanam|" iti|
atredṛśamevādarśanamabhipretaṁ na tu nimīlitākṣajātyandhānāmiva pratyayavaikalyād amanasikārato vā yadadarśanam|
tato bhāvābhiniveśadiviparyāsavāsanāyā aprahīṇatvād asaṁjñisamāpattyādivyutthitasyeva punarapi bhāvābhiniveśamūlasya rāgādikleśagaṇasyotpatteramukta eva yogī bhavet| bhāvābhiniveśamūlo rāgādiḥ āryasatyadvayanirdeśādau varṇitaḥ| yatpunaruktam avikalpapraveśadhāraṇyām-"amanasikārato rūpādinimittaṁ varjayati" iti| tatrāpi prajñayā nirūpayato yo'nupalambhaḥ sa tatrāmanasikāro'bhipreto na manasikārābhāvamātram| na hyasaṁjñisamāpattyādiriva anādikāliko rūpādyabhiniveśo manasikāraparivarjanamātrāt prahīyate|
saṁśayā prahāṇe tu na pūrvopalabdheṣu ca rūpādiṣvabhiniveśamanasikāraparivarjanaṁ śakyaṁ kartum agnyaparivarjane dāhāparivarjanavat| tathāmī rūpādimithyāvikalpāḥ kaṇṭakādivadutkīlya na hastena cetaso'panetavyāḥ| kiṁ tarhi saṁśayabījāpagamāt| tacca saṁśayabījaṁ yoginaḥ samādhyāloke sati prajñācakṣuṣā nirūpayatastesāṁ rūpādīnāṁ pūrvopalabdhānām upalabdhilakṣaṇaprāptānām anupalambhād, rajjoḥ sarpajñānavad, apagacchati nānyathā| tathā saṁśayabījāpagamād rūpādinimittamanasikāraḥ śakyate varjayituṁ nānyathā| anyathā hyasati samādhyāloke prajñācakṣuṣāpyanavaloke yathā andhakūpāvasthitapuruṣasyāvacarakagataghāṭādiṣviva yogino rūpādiṣvastitvasaṁśayo naiva nivarteta| tadanivṛttyā cā prahīṇatimiradoṣasyeva yo'yukto'līkarūpādyabhiniveśaḥ pravarteta na kenāpi nivartyeta|
tasmāt samādhihastena manaḥ sandhāya sūkṣmataraprajñāśastreṇa tatra cetasi rūpādimithyāvikalpabījam uddharet| evam satyutkhātamūlā iva taravo bhūmernirmūlatayā mithyāvikalpāḥ punaścetasi na virohanti| ata evāvaraṇaprahāṇāya śamathavipaśyanāyuganaddhavāhī mārgo bhagavatā nirdiṣṭaḥ, tayoḥ avikalpasamyagjñāne hetutvāt| tathā coktam-
śīlaṁ pratiṣṭhāya samādhilābhāḥ
samādhilābhācca hi prajñābhāvanā|
prajñayā jñānaṁ bhavati viśuddhaṁ
viśuddhajñānasya hi śīlasampat||iti|
tathā hi yadā śamathenālambane cittaṁ sthirīkṛtaṁ bhavati tadā prajñayā vicārayataḥ samyagjñānāloka utpadyate, tadāndhakāramivāloke prakāśayati āvaraṇam apahīyate| ata evānayoścakṣurālokayoriva samyagjñānotpādaṁ pratyanyo'nyānuguṇyenāvasthitatvānnālokāndhakāravat parasparavirodhaḥ| na hi samādhirandhakārasvabhāvaḥ| kiṁ tarhi cittaikāgratālakṣaṇaḥ| sa ca samāhito yathābhūtaṁ prajānātīti vacanādekāntena prajñānukūla eva bhavati, na tu viruddhastasmāt syāt samāhitasya prajñayā nirūpayataḥ sarvadharmāṇāmanupalambhaḥ| sa eva paramo'nupalambhaḥ| sā ca tādṛśī yogināmavasthānalakṣaṇā gatiranābhogā, tataḥ paraṁ dṛṣṭavyasyābhāvāt| śānteti bhāvābhāvādivikalpalakṣaṇasya prapañcasyopaśamāt|
tathā hi yadā prajñayā nirūpayan na kiñcid bhāvasvabhāvam upalabhate yogī, tadā'sya naiva bhāvavikalpo bhavat| abhāvavikalpo'pi tasya nāstyeva| yadi bhāvaḥ kadācid dṛṣṭo bhavati, evaṁ sati tanniṣedhenābhāvavikalpaḥ pravartate| yadā tu kālatraye'pi bhāvo yoginā prajñācakṣuṣā nirūpayatā nopalabdhaḥ, tadā kathaṁ tasya pratiṣedhenābhāvavikalpaṁ kurvīta| evamanye'pi vikalpāstadā tasya na samutpadyanta eva bhāvābhāvavikalpābhyāṁ sarvavikalpasya vyāptatvāt| vyāpakābhāve ca vyāpyasyāsambhavāt| ayamasau paramanirvikalpo yogaḥ| tatra sthitasya yoginaḥ sarvavikalpānām astaṁgamāt samyak kleśāvaraṇaṁ jñeyāvaraṇaṁ ca prahīyate| tathā hi kleśāvaraṇasyānutpannāniruddhabhāveṣu bhāvādiviparyāso mūlaṁ kāraṇam āryasatyadvayanirdeśādau varṇitaṁ bhagavatā|
anena ca yogābhyāsena sarvabhāvādivikalpānāṁ prahāṇāt sakalabhāvādiviparyāsasyāvidyāsvabhāvasya kleśāvaraṇamūlasya prahāṇam| tato mūlocchedāt kleśavaraṇaṁ samyak prahīyate| tathā coktaṁ satyadvayanirdeśe-"kathaṁ mañjuśrīḥ, kleśā vinayaṁ gacchanti, kathaṁ kleśāḥ parijñātā bhavanti ? mañjuśrīrāha-paramārthato'tyantājātānutpannābhāveṣu sarvadharmeṣu saṁvṛtyāsadviparyāsaḥ| tasmād asadviparyāsāt saṅkalpavikalpaḥ| tasmāt saṁkalpavikalpād ayoniśo manasikāraḥ| tasmād ayoniśo manasikārād ātmasamāropaḥ| tasmād ātmasamāropād dṛṣṭiparyutthānam| tasmād dṛṣṭiparyutthānāt kleśāḥ pravartante| yaḥ punaḥ devaputra ! paramārthato'tyantājātānutpannābhāvān sarvadharmān prajānāti, sa paramārthato'viparyastaḥ| yaśca paramārthato'viparyastaḥ so'vikalpaḥ| yaścāvikalpaḥ sa yoniśaḥ prayuktaḥ| yaśca yoniśaḥ prayuktaḥ tasyātmasamāropo na bhavati| yasyātmasamāropo na bhavati tasya dṛṣṭiparyutthānaṁ na bhavati| yāvat paramārthato nirvāṇadṛṣṭisarva dṛṣṭiparyutthānam api na bhavati| tasyaivam anutpādavihāriṇaḥ kleśā atyantaṁ vinītā draṣṭavyāḥ| ayam ucyate kleśavinayaḥ| yadā, devaputra ! kleśān nirābhāsena jñānena paramārthato'tyantaśūnyān atyantābhāvān atyantanirnimittāt prajānāti, tadā devaputra ! kleśāḥ parijñātā bhavanti| tatra yathāpi nāma, devaputra ! ya āśīviṣasya gotraṁ prajānāti| sa tasyāśīviṣasya viṣaṁ śamayati| evameva devaputra ! ya kleśānāṁ gotraṁ prajānāti tasya kleśāḥ praśāmyanti| devaputra āha-kataman mañjuśrīḥ ! kleśānāṁ gotram| āha-yāvad eṣā paramārthato'tyantājātānutpannābhāveṣu sarvadharmeṣu kalpanā idaṁ kleśānāṁ gotram" iti vistaraḥ|
bhāvādiviparyāsena ca sakalaviparyāsasya vyāptatvāt| tatprahāṇe sakalaviparyāsaprahāṇād jñeyāvaraṇam apyanena samyak prahīyate, viparyāsalakṣaṇatvād āvaraṇasya| jñeyāvaraṇe ca prahīṇe pratibandhābhāvād ravikiraṇavad apagatameghādyāvaraṇe nabhasi sarvatrāvyāhato yogi pratyakṣo jñānālokaḥ pravartate| tathā hi vastusvabhāvaprakāśarūpaṁ vijñānam| tacca saṁnihitam api vastu pratibandhasadbhāvānna prakāśayati| pratibandhābhāve tu sati, acintyaśaktiviśeṣalābhāt kimiti sakalam eva vastu yathāvad na prakāśayet| ataḥ saṁvṛtiparamārtharūpeṇa sakalasya vastuno yathāvat parijñānāt sarvajñatvam avāpyate| ato'yam evāvaraṇaprahāṇo sarvajñatvādhigame ca paramo mārgaḥ|
yastu śrāvakādīnāṁ mārgastena viparyāsāprahāṇān na samyag āvaraṇadvayaṁ prahīyate| tathā coktam āryalaṅkāvatāre-"anye tu kāraṇādhīnān sarvadharmān dṛṣṭvā'nirvāṇe'pi nirvāṇam iti buddhayo bhavanti| dharmanairātmyādarśanād nāsti mahāmate ! mokṣa eṣām| mahāmate, śrāvakayānikābhisamayagotrasyāniryāṇe niryāṇabuddhiḥ| atra mahāmate, kudṛṣṭivyāvartanā yogaḥ karaṇīyaḥ" iti| ata eva cānyena mārgeṇa mokṣābhāvād ekam eva yānam uktaṁ bhagavatā|
kevalam [bālena bālasya] avatāraṇābhisandhinā śrāvakādimārgo deśitaḥ| tathā hi sakandha mātramevaitat, na tvātmāstīti bhāvayan śrāvakaḥ pudgalanairātmyam avatarati, vijñaptimātraṁ traidhātukamiti bhāvayan vijñānavādibāhyārthanairātmyamavatarati| anena tvasyadvayajñānasya nairātmyapraveśāt paramatattvapraviṣṭo bhavati| na tu vijñaptimātratāpraveśa eva tattvapraveśaḥ| yathoktaṁ prāk| uktaṁ ca āryalokottaraparivarte "punaraparaṁ bho jinaputra ! cittamātraṁ traidhātukam avatarati, tacca cittam anantamadhyatayā'vatarati" iti| antayorutpādabhaṅgalakṣaṇayoḥ sthitilakṣaṇasya ca madhyasyābhāvād anantamadhyacittam| tasmād advayajñānapraveśa eva tattvapraveśaḥ|
sā ceyaṁ yoginām avasthā kuto viśodhitā ? ityāha-
"praṇidhānairviśodhitā" iti| mahākaruṇayā yat sarvasattvārthakaraṇāya bodhisattvena praṇihitam, tataḥ praṇidhānabalād uttarottaradānādikuśalābhyāsāt sā tathā viśuddhā jāta, yena sarvadharmaniḥsvabhāvatājñāne'pi sakalasattvāpekṣā na vyāvartate yāvat saṁsāra eva ananuliptāḥ saṁsāradoṣairavatiṣṭhanta iti| kathaṁ punaranābhogā śāntetyatra kāraṇamāha-
jñānaṁ nirātmakaṁ śreṣṭhaṁ nirābhāsena paśyati| iti|
yasmād yad advayalakṣaṇaṁ jñānam advayavādināṁ śreṣṭhaṁ paramārthenābhimataṁ tadapi nirātmakaṁ niḥsvabhāvam advayanirābhāsena jñānena paśyati yogī| ato'parasya draṣṭavyasyābhāvād anābhogā, sarvavikalpābhāvat śānteti|
atredānīṁ ko'sau yogī vidyate, yaḥ paśyatīti cet ? na paramārthataḥ kaścid ātmādiḥ svatantro'sti, yogī nāpi kaścit paśyati| kintu saṁvṛtyā yathā rūpādīviṣayākārajñānotpādamātreṇa vijñānameva loke tathā tathā vyavahriyate devadatto yajñadattaṁ jñānena paśyatīti na tu kaścid ātmādirasti| tathā'trāpi jñānamevādvayajñānanirābhāsam utpadyamānaṁ tathā vyapadiśyate nirābhāsena jñānena paśyatiti| na hi sarvadharmāṇāṁ paramārthato niḥsvabhāvatve'pi saṁvṛtyā yogijñānam anyad vā pṛthagjñānaṁ neṣṭam| tathā coktam āryasatyadvayanirdeśe-"paramārthato'tyantābhāvaśca saṁvṛttyā ca mārga bhāvayati" iti|
anyathā śrāvakapratyekabuddhabodhisattva [buddha] pṛthagjanādivyavasthā kathaṁ bhavet, kintu yasya saṁvṛtyā'pi kāraṇaṁ nāsti sa saṁvṛtyā'pi notpadyate| yathā śaśaviṣāṇādi| yasya tu [kāraṇaṁ] vidyate sa paramārthato'līko'pi samutpadyata eva| yathā-māyāpratibimba [pratidhvani] ādī| na ca māyādeḥ saṁvṛtyā pratītyasamutpāde paramārthato vastutvaprasaṅgaḥ, tasya vicārākṣamatvāt| ataḥ sarvameva māyopamaṁ jagat| tatra yathā kleśakarmamāyāvaśāt sattvānāṁ janmamāyā pravarteta, tathā yogināmapi puṇyajñānasambhāramāyāvaśād yogijñānamāyā pravartata eva| tathā coktam āryaprajñāpāramitāyām-"kaścit śrāvakanirmitaḥ, kaścit pratyekabuddhanirmitaḥ, kaścid bodhisattvanirmitaḥ, kaścit tathāgatanirmitaḥ, kaścit kleśanirmitaḥ kaścit karmanirmitaḥ| anena subhūte, paryāyeṇa sarvadharmā nirmitotpannāḥ" iti| ayaṁ tu viśeṣo yogināṁ pṛthagjanebhyaḥ, te hi māyākāravat tāṁ māyāṁ yathāvat parijñānāt satyato nābhiniviśante, tena te yogina ucyante| ye tāṁ bālapṛthagjanavat kautūhalaṁ styatvenābhiniviṣṭāste viparītābhiniveśad bāla ucyante iti sarvamaviruddham| tathā coktam āryadharmasaṅgītau-
māyākāro yathā kaścinnirmita-mokṣamudyataḥ|
na cāsya nirmite saṅgo jñātapūrvo yato'sya saḥ||
tribhavaṁ nirmitaprakhyaṁ jñātvā sambodhipāragaḥ|
saṁnahyate jagaddhetorjñātapūrvaṁ jagat tathā||iti|
evamanena krameṇa tattvaṁ bhāvayet|
tatra ca layauddhatyādīn vyutthitān pūrvavat praśamayet| yadā tu sarvadharmaniḥsvabhāvatālambane ca layauddhatyādirahitam anabhisaṁskāreṇa pravṛttaṁ jñānaṁ bhavati, tadā śamathavipaśyanāyuganaddhavāhī mārgo niṣpanno bhavati| tathā yāvat śaknoti tāvad adhimuktibalena adhimukticaryābhūmau sthito bhāvayet|
tato yathecchaṁ paryaṅkamābhujya vyutthāya punarevaṁ cintayet| yadi nāmāmī dharmāḥ paramārthata eva niḥsvabhāvā apyete saṁvṛtyā sthitā eva| tathā coktam āryaratnameghe-"kathaṁ bodhisattvo nairātmyakuśalo bhavati ? iha kulaputra, bodhisattvaḥ samyakprajñayā rūpaṁ pratyevakṣate, vedanāṁ saṁjñāṁ saṁskārān vijñānaṁ pratyavekṣate| sa rūpaṁ pratyavekṣamāṇo rūpasyotpādaṁ nopalabhate, virodhaṁ nopalabhate, samudayaṁ nopalabhate| evaṁ vedanāyāḥ saṁjñāyāḥ saṁskārāṇāṁ vijñānasyotpādaṁ nopalabhate, nirodhaṁ nopalabhate, samudayaṁ nopalabhate| ayaṁ ca paramārthato'nutpādavihāriṇyāḥ prajñāyā na punarvyāvahārikeṇa svabhāvena" iti vistaraḥ| ete ca bālabuddhaya evaṁ niḥsvabhāveṣu bhāveṣu viparītābhiniveśāt saṁsāre paribhramanto vividhāni duḥkhāni pratyanubhavanti| mahākaruṇām eva āmukhīkṛtya evamanuvicintayet-tathā'haṁ kariṣyāmi yathā sarvajñatvaṁ prāpya eteṣāṁ dharmatāmavabodhayeyamiti|
tataḥ sarvabuddhabodhisattvebhyaḥ pūjāstotropahāraṁ kṛtvā āryabhadracaryāpraṇidhānamabhinirharet| tataḥ śūnyatākaruṇāgarbha eva sakaladānādipuṇyajñānasambhāropārjane pravartate| tathā coktam āryadharmasaṁgītau-"yathābhūtadarśino bodhisattvasya sattveṣu mahākaruṇā pravartate| evaṁ cāsya bhavati-idaṁ mayā samādhimukhaṁ sarvadharmayathābhūtadarśaṁ ca sarvasattvānāṁ nispādayitavyam| sa tayā mahākaruṇayā saṁcodyamāno'dhiśīlam adhicittam adhiprajñaṁ ca śikṣātrayaṁ paripūryānuttaraṁ samyaksambodhim abhisambudhyate" iti|
ayameva prajñopāyayuganaddhabāhī bodhisattvānāṁ mārgo yat paramārthadarśane'pi saṁvṛtiṁ nocchedayanti| saṁvṛtiṁ cānucchedayanto mahākaruṇāpūrvaṅgamā aviparyastā eva sattvārthakriyāsu pravartante| uktam āryaratnameghe-"kathaṁ bodhisattvo mahāyānakuśalo bhavati| iha bodhisattvaḥ sarvāsu śikṣāsu śikṣate, śikṣāmārgaṁ ca nopalabhate| yacca śikṣate tadapi nopalabhate| yaśca śikṣyate tamapi nopalabhate| na ca taddhetukaṁ tannidānaṁ tatpratyayam ucchedadṛṣṭau patati " iti| āryadharmasaṁgītau coktam-"katamā bodhisattvānāṁ pratipattiḥ ? yat kiñcid bodhisattvānāṁ kāyakarma, yat kiñcid vākkarma, yat kiñcin manaḥkarma, tat sarvasattvāpekṣakaṁ pravartate, mahākaruṇāpūrvaṅgamatvāt| mahākaruṇādhipatyaṁ sarvasattvāhitasukhādhyāśayasamutthitam" iti| ayamevaṁ hitāśayaḥ saṁjñībhavati| sā mayā pratipattiḥ pratipattavyā sarvasattvānāṁ hitāvahā sukhāvahā| tasya skandheṣu māyāvat pratyavekṣaṇā pratipattirna ca skandhaparityāgaṁ spṛhayatīti| dhātuṣvāśīviṣavat pratyavekṣaṇā pratipattirna ca dhātuparityāgaṁ spṛhayatīti| āyataneṣu śūnyagrāmavat pratyavekṣaṇāpratipattirna cāyatanaparityāgaṁ spṛhayatīti| rūpasya phenapiṇḍavat pratyavekṣaṇā pratipattirna ca tathāgatarūpakāyaviṭhapanāṁ jahāti| vedanāyā budbudvat pratyavekṣaṇā pratipattirna ca tathāgatadhyānasamādhisamāpattisukhaniṣpadanaprayogaṁ nārabhate| saṁjñāyāṁ marīcivat pratyavekṣaṇā pratipattirna ca tathāgatajñānaniṣpādana apratipattiḥ| saṁskārāṇāṁ kadalīvat pratyavekṣaṇā pratipattirna ca buddhadharmasaṁskārāṇām apratipattiḥ| vijñānasya māyāvat pratyavekṣaṇā pratipattirna ca jñānapūrvaṅgamakāyavāṅmanaskarmaniṣpādanā pratipattiḥ" iti vistaraḥ| evam aparyanteṣu sūtrānteṣu prajñopāyarūpā pratipattiranugantavyā|
tatra yadi nāma lokottaraprajñāvasthāyām upāyasevanā na sambhavati, upāyasevanākāle tu bodhisattvasya māyākāravad aviparyastatvāt lokottarajñānāt prayogapṛṣṭhabhāvani yathāvad vastuparamārthatattvābhiniveśanī prajñāsambhavatyeveti, bhavatyeva prajñopāyayuganaddhavāhī mārgaḥ| āryakṣayamatinirdeśe ca dhyānākṣayatayā prajñopāyayuganaddhavāhī mārgo'nugantavyaḥ| evamanena krameṇa bodhisattvasya prajñām upāyaṁ ca satataṁ satkṛtya dīrghakālābhyāsena bhāvayato dvādaśāvasthāviśeṣā bhavanti| tā evāvasthā uttarottaraguṇapratiṣṭhārthena bhūmayo vyavasthāpyante| adhimukticaryābhūmeryāvad buddhabhūmiriti|
tatra yāvat pudgaladharmanairātmyatvaṁ na sākṣātkaroti, kevalaṁ dṛḍhatarādhimuktiḥ| mārādibhirapyabhedyo yadādhimuktibalena tattvaṁ bhavayati, tadā dṛḍhādhimuktito'dhimukticaryābhūmirvyavasthāpyate| asyāmapi bhūmau vartamāno bodhisattva pṛthagjano'pi sarvabālavipattisamatikrānto'saṁkhyeyasamādhidhāraṇīvimokṣābhijñādiguṇānvita āryaratnameghe paṭhyate|
asyā eva ca mṛdumadhyādhimātrādhimātratarāvasthācatuṣṭayena catvāri nirvedhabhāgīyāni vyavasthāpyante| tathā hi yadā [bāhyārtha vibhāvayatā] īṣatspaṣṭo jñānāloko bhavati tadā uṣmagatanāmakaṁ nirvedhabhāgīyaṁ bhavati| sa cātra mahāyāna ālokalabdhasamādhirucyate| yadā tu sa eva jñānaloko madhyamaspaṣṭo bhavati, tadā mūrdhanāmakanirvedhabhāgīyaṁ bhavati, vṛddhālokaśca samādhirucyate| yadā tu spaṣṭataro bāhyārthānābhāsajñānāloko jāyate, tadā vijñaptimātrāvasthānāt kṣāntināmakaṁ nirvedhabhāgīyaṁ bhavati| ekadeśapraviṣṭaśca samādhirucyate| grāhyakārānupalambhapraveśāt| yadā tu grāhyagrāhakākārarahitam advayaṁ jñānaṁ vibhāvayet tadā'gradharmākhyaṁ nirvedhabhāgīyaṁ bhavati| ānantaryaśca sa samādhirucyate, tadanantarameva tattvapraveśāt| atra tāvad adhimukticaryābhūmi|
itarāstu bhūmayaḥ saṁkṣepata ekādaśāṅgaparipūritā vyavasthāpyante| tatra prathamā bhūmiḥ prathamaṁ pudgaladharmanairātmyatattvādhigamāṅgaparipūritā vyavasthāpyate| tathā hi yadā'gradharmānantaraṁ prathamataraṁ lokottaraṁ sarvaprapañcarahitaṁ sarvadharmaniḥsvabhāvatāsākṣātkāri sphuṭataraṁ jñānam utpadyate, tadā bodhisattvaḥ samyaktvanyayābhāvakrāntito darśanamārgotpādāt prathamāṁ bhūmiṁ praviṣṭo bhavati| ata evāsyāṁ bhūmau prathamato'nadhigatatattvādhigamād bodhisattvaḥ pramudito bhavati| tata eṣā bhūmiḥ pramuditetyucyate| atra ca dvādaśottaraṁ darśanaheyaṁ kleśaśataṁ prahīyate|
śeṣāstu bhūmayo bhāvanāmārgasvabhāvāḥ| tāsu bhāvanāheyāstraidhātukāḥ ṣoḍaśa kleśāḥ prahīyante| asyāṁ ca bhūmau bodhisattvasya dharmadhātusamudāgamatāprabodhāt svārtha iva parāthe pravartanād dānapāramitā'tiriktatarā bhavati| sa ca bodhisattvaḥ samadhigatatattvo'pi vā yāvann śaknoti sūkṣmāpattiskhaliteṣu samprajanyavihāri bhavituṁ tāvat prathamā bhūmiḥ| yadā tu śaknoti, tadāsyāṅgasya paripūrito dvitīyā bhūmirvyavasthāpyate| ata evāsyāṁ bhūmau sūkṣmāpattiskhalitasamudācārāt śīlapāramitā'tiriktatarā bhavati| sarvadauśśīlyamalāpagamād iyaṁ bhūmirvimaletyucyate|
sa sūkṣmāpattiskhaliteṣu samprajanyavihārī bhavati| yāvanna śaknoti sakalalaukikaṁ samādhiṁ samāpattuṁ yathāśrutaṁ cārtham ādharttuṁ tāvad dvitīyaiva bhūmiḥ| yadā śaknoti, tadā tasyāṅgasya paripūritastṛtīyā bhūmirvyavasthāpyate| asyāṁ ca bhūmau bodhisattvasya śrutadhāraṇyā sarvalaukikasamādhyābhinirhārārthaṁ sarvaduḥkhasahanāt, kṣāntipāramitā'tiriktatarā bhavati| teṣāṁ samādhīnāṁ lābhād iya bhūmirapramāṇaṁ lokottaraṁ jñānāvabhāsaṁ karotīti prabhākarītyucyate|
sa pratilabdhalaukikasakalasamādhirapi yāvann śaknoti yathāpratilabdhairbodhipakṣairdharmairbahulaṁ vihartuṁ sarvasamāpattīnāṁ ca cittam upekṣituṁ tāvat tṛtīyā bhūmiḥ| yadā tu śaknoti tadā tasyāṅgasya paripūritaścaturthī bhūmirvyavasthāpyate| asyāṁ bhūmau bodhisattvasyābhīkṣṇaṁ kāyavāṅmanojalpasamatikramaṇāaya bodhipakṣairdharmairviharaṇāt, viryaparamitā'tiriktatarābhavati| iyaṁ ca sakalakleśendhanadāhasamarthasya bodhipakṣadharmārciṣa udgatatvād arciṣmatītyucyate|
so'bhīkṣṇaṁ bodhipakṣadharmavihārī bhavati| yāvanna śaknoti satyāni bhāvayan saṁsārānabhimukhaṁ nirvāṇābhimukhaṁ ca ceto vyāvartayitum upāyasaṁgṛhītān bodhipakṣān dharmān bhāvayitum, tāvaccaturthī bhūmiḥ| yadā tu śaknoti tadā'syāṅgasya paripūritaḥ pañcamī bhūmirvyavasthāpyate| ata evāsyām iyam upāyasaṁgṛhītā bodhipakṣabhāvanā [paripūritena] suṣṭhu duḥkhena jīyate abhyasyatā iti sudurjayetyujyate|
asyāṁ cāryasatyākārabhāvanābahulīkārād dhyānapāramitā atiriktatarā bhavati| upayasaṁgṛhītabodhipakṣabahulavihārī ca bhavati| yāvad na śaknoti saṁsārapravṛttipratyavekṣaṇān nirvitsahayā cittasantatyā'nimittavihāraṁ samāpattuṁ tāvat pañcamī bhūmiḥ| yadā śaknoti tadā'syāṅgasya paripūritaḥ ṣaṣṭhī bhūmirvyavasthāpyate| asyāṁ ca bodhisattvasya pratītyasamutpādabhāvanāvihārāt prajñāpāramitā'tiriktatarā bhavati| ata eva prajñāpāramitāyā atiriktataratvāt sarvabuddhadharmeṣu abhimukho'syāṁ bhūmau vartata iti kṛtvā abhimukhītyucyate|
so'nimittavihāralābhī bhavati| yāvanna śaknoti niśchidram animittavihāraṁ samāpattum, tāvat ṣaṣṭhī bhūmiḥ| yadā śaknoti tadā'syāṅgasya paripūritaḥ saptamī bhūmirvyavasthāpyate| asyāmapi bhūmau bodhisattvaḥ sarvanimittaṁ nirnimittena pratividhyati nimittakṛtavyavahāraṁ ca na virodhayati| ato'syām upāyapāramitā'tiriktatarā bhavati| iyaṁ ca bhūmiranābhogamārgopaśleṣāt suṣṭhu dūraṅgamād dūraṅgamā|
sa niśchidrānimittāvihāri bhavati| yāvanna śaknotyanābhogavāhinam animittavihāraṁ samāpattuṁ tāvat saptamī bhūmiḥ| yadā śaknoti tadā'syāṅgasya paripūrito'ṣṭamī bhūmirvyavasthāpyate| asyāṁ ca bhūmau anābhogena kuśalapakṣayogāt praṇidhānapāramitā'tiriktatarā bhavati| animittābhogāprakampyatvād iyam acaletyucyate|
so'nābhogānimittavihārī ca bhavati| yāvanna śaknoti paryāyaniruktyādiprabhedaiḥ sarvākārasarvadharmadeśanāyāṁ vaśībhavituṁ tāvad aṣṭamī bhūmiḥ| yadā śaknoti tadā'syāṅgasya paripūrito navamī bhūmirvyavasthāpyate| asyāṁ ca bhūmau bodhisattvasya pratisaṁvid-viśeṣalābhāt prajñābalaviśeṣayogād balapāramitā'tiriktatarā bhavati| sarvākāradharmadeśanākauśalato'navadyamativiśeṣalābhāt sādhumatī bhūmirucyate|
asyāṁ ca pratisaṁviccatuṣṭayalabhī bhavati| yāvanna śaknoti buddhakṣetraparṣannirmāṇādi darśayituṁ paripūrṇadharmasambhogaṁ sattvaparipākaṁ ca kartum, tāvad navamī bhūmiḥ| yadā tu śaknoti tadā'syāṅgasya paripūrito daśamī bhūmirvyavasthāpyate| asyāṁ ca nirmāṇādinā sattvaparipācanāya jñānaviśeṣayogād bodhisattvasya jñānapāramitā'tiriktatarā bhavati| iyaṁ ca dharmadeśanāmeghaiḥ ananteṣu lokadhātuṣu dharmapravarṣaṇād dharmameghetyucyate| aparairapi skandhapariśuddhayādivyavasthāpanaiḥ bhūmīnāṁ vyavasthāpanamasti, granthavistarabhayān na likhitam|
sa pratilabdha-nirmāṇādivaśito'pi yāvan na śaknoti sarvasmin jñeye sarvākāram asaktam| apratihataṁ jñānam utpādayituṁ tāvad daśamī bhūmi| yadā śaknoti tadā'syāṅgasya paripūrito buddhabhūmirvyavasthāpyate| etacca bhūmivyavasthāpanam āryasaṁdhinirmocane nirdiṣṭam| asyāśca buddhabhūmeḥ sarvākārasakalasaṁpatprakarṣḍaparyantagamanānnāparam utkṛṣṭaṁ sthānāntaramasti [tasmāt tataḥ paraṁ nāsti bhūmivyavasthā] iti|
asyāśca buddhamūmerguṇapakṣaprabhedo buddhairapi na śakyate sarvākāraṁ vaktum| tasyā aprameyatvāt, kathaṁ punaḥ asmatsadṛśaiḥ| yathoktam āryagaṇḍavyūhe-guṇaikadeśa-paryanta nādhigacchet svayaṁbhuvaḥ|
nirīkṣyamāṇo buddho'pi buddhadharmā hyacintiyāḥ||iti|
etāvattu saṁkṣepeṇa vaktuṁ śakyate| [svaparārthasampattiprakarṣaparyantagataḥ, aśeṣadoṣāpagamaniṣṭhāṁ prāpya bhagavān buddho dharmakāye sthitvā sambhoganirmāṇakāyābhyām anābhogarūpeṇa aśeṣajagadartha kurvan yāvat saṁsāraṁ viharati|
tasmāt prekṣavadbhiḥ sarvaguṇākareṣu bhagavatsu śraddhā utpadanīyā, tadguṇaparisādhanārthaṁ sarvaprakāreṇa prayatitavyam| trikāyadivibhāgastu granthavistarabhayānna likhyate|
nayasyānusāreṇa sūtrasya cāṭha
saduktyā'sya mārgasya jinaputrakāṇām|
mayānalpapuṇyaṁ yadāptaṁ ca tena
parāmetu buddhiṁ jaganmandamāśu||
bhūpatiśrīdevarājavacanena] kamalaśīlena bhāvanākramasya ayaṁ saṁkṣepaḥ kṛtaḥ|
bhāvanākramaḥ prathamaḥ samāptaḥ|
bhāvanākramo dvitīyaḥ
namo mañjuśriye kumārabhūtāya|
mahāyānasūtranayānupraviśyamānānāṁ bhāvanākramaḥ saṁkṣepataḥ kathyate|
iha atīśighraṁ sarvajñatāprāptukāmena prekṣāvatā tatprāpaka-hetu-pratyayebhyo'bhiyogaḥ karaṇīyaḥ|
itthamiyaṁ sarvajñatā tu hetuṁ vinā bhavituṁ na yujyate, sarvasyāpi sarvadā sarvajñatābhāvaprasaṅgatvāt| nirapekṣabhāve tu kutrāpi pratigho na syād, yato hi sarve'pi sarvajñā eva na bhavanti| kiṁ tarhi kasyacit kadācit kiñcinmātraṁmūtatvāt sarvaṁ hi vastu hetusāpekṣameva| sarvajñatā'pi kutracit kadācit kiñcit saṁbhāvyate| sarvasminnapi kāle nāsti, sarvasmin sthāne nāsti, sarvamapi nāsti, tasmāt sā tu niyatameva hetupratyayasāpekṣā| taddhetupratyayeṣvapi abhrāntā avikalāśca sevitavyāḥ| bhrantahetvanuṣṭhāne tu atidīrghakālenāpi na iṣṭaphala-prāptiḥ| yathā-śṛṅgāt payodohavat| sakalahetusevanaṁ vinā'pi na phalotpādaḥ| bījādiṣu kasyacidapi abhāve aṅkurādiphalānutpādāt| tasmāt tatphalakāmenābhrāntasakalaṁ hetupratyayaṁ sevanīyam|
ke hetupratyayāḥ sarvajñatāphalasya iti? ucyate, mādṛśo jātyandhasadṛśastān darśayituṁ na śaknoti, tathāpi bhagavataivābhisaṁbuddhaya vineyajanebhyo yathoktaṁ tathaiva mayā bhagavadvacanenaiva kathyate| bhagavāṁstan avocat-"guhyādhipate! tat sarvajñajñānaṁ karuṇāmūlaṁ bodhicittahetukam upāyaparyavasānam" iti| tasmāt sarvajñatāmadhigantukāmaiḥ karuṇā-bodhicittopāyeṣu eteṣu triṣu śikṣitavyam|
karuṇayā preryamāṇā bodhisattvāḥ sarvasattvābhyuddhāraṇartham avaśyaṁ pratijñāsyanti| ataḥ svātmadṛṣṭiṁ nirākṛtya atiduṣkarāvichinna-dīrghakāla-sādhītapuṇyajñānasambhāreṣu ādareṇa pravṛttiḥ| tatra praviśya paripūrṇa puṇyajñānasambhāram avaśyaṁ sādhayati| sambhārāpariniṣpattau sarvajñatā karatalagatavad bhaviṣyati| tarhi sarvajñatāmūlaṁ tu karuṇāyā eva bhūtatvāt sā tu prathamatarameva bhavanīyā| āryadharmasaṁgītisūtre-"na bhagavan bodhisattvena atibahuṣu dharmeṣu śikṣitavyam| eko dharmo bhagavan bodhisattvena svārādhitaḥ supratibiddhaḥ kartavyaḥ| tasya sarvabuddhadharmāḥ karatalagatā bhavanti| katama ekadharmaḥ ? yaduta mahākaruṇā|" iti|
mahākaruṇāparigṛhītatvād bhagavanto buddhāḥ sakalasvārthasampattilābhe'pi sattvadhātuparyavasānaparyantaṁ tiṣṭhanti| śrāvakavad atiśānte'pi nirvāṇanagare na praviśantiṁ| sattvān avalokya tacchāntanirvāṇanagaraṁ prajvaladayogṛhavad dūraṁ tyaktatvād bhagavatām apratiṣṭhitanirvāṇahetustu sā mahākaruṇā eva|
atra sa karuṇābhāvanākramaḥ prathamapraveśādārabhya abhidhātavyaḥ| saṁprati upekṣābhāvanayā sarvasattveṣu anurāgaṁ dveṣaṁ ca nirasya samācittatā prathamaṁ niṣpādayitavyā|
sarve sattvāḥ sukhaṁ kāmayante, duḥkhaṁ tu na kāmayante| anādimati ca saṁsāre na kaścit sattvo yo nābhūt śataśo me bandhuriti paricintaya-taścātra ko viśeṣaḥ syāt ? tarhi kasmiṁścid anurāgaḥ kasmiṁścicca dveṣo bhavet, tasmān mayā sarveṣu sattveṣu cittasamataiva kāryā iti| evaṁ manasikāreṇa madhyasthapakṣata ārabhya mitre śatrau cacittasamatāmeva bhāvayet| tataḥ sarvasattveṣu cittasamatāṁ sādhayitvā maitrīṁ bhāvayet| maitrījalena cittasaṁtānaṁ siṁcayitvā vidyamānasuvarṇabhūmivat kṛtvā karuṇābījavapane sukhena atisuvistāro bhaviṣyati| tataścittasaṁtānaṁ maitryā vāsayitvā karuṇāṁ bhāvayet|
sā ca karuṇā sarvapīḍitasattvaduḥkhāvagamecchākārā'sti| lokatrayasya sarvasattvānāṁ trividhaduḥkhatayā yathāyogam atyantaduḥkhitatvāt tadartha sarvasattveṣu sā bhāvanīyā| tathā ca ye tāvannākārakāste vividhacirantanadīrghakālikadāhādi-dukheḥṣu nimagnā eva bhāvato varṇitāḥ| tathā pretā api prāyo duḥsahatīvrakṣuttṛṣuduḥkhāgnyabhisaṁśoṣitamūrtayo bahuduḥkhamanubhavanti iti varṇitāḥ| tiryañco'pi parasparabhakṣaṇakrodhavadhahiṁsādibhiranekavidhaṁ duḥkhamanubhavanto dṛśyanta eva| manuṣyā api kāmaparyeṣaṇākārpaṇyād anyo'nyadrohopadhātakṛtaṁ priyaviprayogāpriyasaṁyogaṁ dāridrayādyutpannam aprameyaṁ duḥkhamanubhavanto dṛśyanto|
ye rāgādinānā-saṁkleśaparyaveṣṭitacittāḥ, ye ca vividhakudṛṣṭigahananimagnāste sarve'pi duḥkhahetutvāt prapatasthā iva atiduḥkhitā eva| devā api sarvavipariṇāmaduḥkhaduḥkhitā eva| devā api ye kāmavacarāste'pi nityacyavanapatanādibhayaśkopahatāḥ kathaṁ sukhitā nāma ? saṁskāradu khaṁ tu karmakleśalakṣaṇaṁ hetuparatantrasvabhāvaṁ pratikṣaṇabhaṅgurasvabhāvalakṣaṇaṁ ca sakalajagati vyāptam| tasmāt sakalameva jagad duḥkhāgnijvālāntarapraviṣṭam avetya yathā mama duḥkham apriyam anyeṣāmapi tādṛśam iti cintayatā| aho bata ! duḥkhitā mamaite priyasattvāstu kathaṁ tadduḥkhamuktāḥ syuriti svātmaduḥkhavat kṛtvā tannivāraṇecchākārayā karuṇayā samādhyavasthāyāṁ sarvacaryāsu vāpi sarvadā sarvasattvān bhāvayet| prathamaṁ tāvad mitrapakṣeṣu anubhūtapūrvoktavividhaduḥkheṣu anupaśyatā bhāvanīyā|
tataḥ sattvasamatayāviśeṣamapaśyatā 'sarve sattvāstu me bandhubhūtā eva' iti paricintayatā madhyamapakṣeṣu bhavanīyā| yadā tatra mitrapakṣeṣviva sā karuṇā tulyā pravṛttā bhavati tadā daśasu dikṣu sarvasattveṣu bhāvayet| yadā duḥkhitapriyaśiśoḥ mātṛvat svātmano'tipriyaṁ duḥkhata uddaraṇecchākārā svarasavāhinīṁ sarvasattveṣu samapravṛttā kṛpā bhavati tadā sā niṣpannā bhavati, mahākaruṇāvyapadeśaṁ ca labhate|
prathamaṁ tāvad mitrapakṣe kṛtā maitrībhāvanā sukhasaṁyogecchākārā bhavati, kramaśaḥ vyasteṣu śatruṣu cāpi bhāvanīyā| tathā'bhyastā ca sā karuṇā kramaśaḥ sakalasattvābhyuddharaṇecchāṁ svarasena eva utpādayati|
ato mūlakaruṇāṁ bhāvayitvā bodhicittaṁ bhāvayet| tad bodhicittaṁ tu dvividham-saṁvṛtaṁ paramārtha ca| tatra saṁvṛtaṁ tu karuṇayā sakalasattvābhyuddharaṇaṁ pratijñāya 'jagaddhitāya buddho bhaveyam' iti, anuttarasamyaksambodhicchākāraḥ prathamaścittotpādaḥ| tathāpi śīlaparivartapradarśita-vidhivad bodhisattvaḥ saṁvarasthitānyavidvatsu cittamutpādayet|
tathā saṁvṛtabodhicittamutpādya paramārthabodhicittotpādārthaṁ prayatitavyam| tacca paramārthagocaram, vimalam, acalam, nirvātapradīpapravāhavanniṣkampam| tatsiddhistu satataṁ satkṛtya dīrghakālaṁ śamathavipaśyanāyogabhāvanākaraṇād bhaviṣyati| āryasaṁdhinirmocane yathā "maitreya ! śrāvakāṇāṁ bodhisattvānāṁ tathāgatānāṁ vā ye'pi sarve'pi laukikalokottarakuśaladharmāḥ śamathavipaśyanāphalā veditavyā iti|" taddvayoḥ sarvasamādhisaṁgṛhītatvāt sarvayogibhiḥ sadā avaśyaṁ śamathavipaśyane sevanīye| tatraiva āryasaṁdhinirmocane bhagavatā uktam, tadyathā-"mayā śrāvakāṇāṁ bodhisattvānāṁ tathāgatānāṁ vividhasamādhayo darśitāḥ, te sarve śamathavipaśyanāsaṁgṛhītā veditavyāḥ" iti|
kevalaṁ śamathamātrabhāvanayā na yoginām āvaraṇaprahāṇam, kleśavikrāntimātrameva tāvat| prajñālokābhāve'nuśayahānyasaṁbhavād anuśayasaṁhāro na bhaviṣyati| tasmāt tatraiva āryasaṁdhinirmocane uktam "dhyānena hi kleśānāṁ vikrāntiḥ| prajñayā tu anuśayaṁ saṁpratihanti iti"|
āryasamādhirājasūtre'pi-
kiṁ cāpi bhāveyya samādhiloke
na co vibhāveyya sa ātmasaṁjñām|
punaḥ prakupyanti kileśu tasya
yathodrakasyeha samādhibhāvanā|
nairātmyadharmān yadi pratyavekṣate
tān pratyavekṣya yadi bhāvayet|
sa hetu nirvāṇaphalasya prāptaye
yo anyaheturna sa bhoti śāntaye|| iti uktam|
bodhisattvapiṭake'pi-"ye bodhisattvapiṭakasya etaddharmaparyāyāśravaṇe, āryavinayadharmaśravaṇaṁ ca vinā samādhimātreṇa saṁtoṣagrahaṇe tu ahaṁkāravaśād abhimāne patitāḥ janmajarārogamaraṇaśokaparidevanāduḥkhadaurmanasyakopāparimuktāḥ| ṣaḍgatisaṁsārāparimuktāḥ duḥkhaskandhato'pi aparimuktāḥ| tān saṁdhāya tathāgatena evam uktam-parasmād anukūlaśrotā tu jarāmaraṇamukto bhaviṣyati" iti|
tasmāt sakalāvaraṇaṁ vihāya viśuddhajñānodbhavakāmena śamathe sthitvā prajñā bhāvanīyā| evam āryaratnakūṭe'pi bhāṣitam-
śīlaṁ pratiṣṭhāya samādhilābhaḥ
samādhilābhācca hi prajñābhāvanā|
prajñāyā jñānaṁ bhavati viśuddhaṁ
viśuddhajñānasya hi śīlasampat||iti|
āryamahāyānaśraddhābhāvanāsūtre'pi uktam-"kulaputra ! prajñāyām anupasthitau bodhisattvānāṁ mahāyānaśraddhā mahāyāne kathamapi utpatsyate (iti) ahaṁ na vakṣyāmi| kulaputra ! anena paryāyeṇāpi evaṁ bodhisattvānāṁ yā kācid mahāyānaśraddhā mahāyāne utpatsyate sā sarvā tu avikṣiptacittena dharmārthasaṁcintanāt samutpannā veditavyā|"
śamathaṁ vinā vipaśyanāmātreṇa yogicittaṁ viṣayeṣu vikṣipyate, vāyumadhyasthitapradīpavacca sthiraṁ na bhavati| ato jñānāloko'tisphuṭo na bhavati| tasmād ubhayaṁ samaṁ sevitavyam| ataḥ āryamahāparinirvāṇasūtre'pi uktam- "śrāvakaistu tathāgatagotraṁ na dṛśyate| samādheradhikatvāt prajñāyāśca alpatvāt bodhisattvāstu paśyanti, kintu asphuṭam, prajñātirekāt samādheścālpatvāt| tathāgatastu sarvam avalokayati śamathavipaśyanāsamānayuktatvād " iti| śamathabalena ca vāyunā akṣobhyapradīpavad vikalpavāyubhiścittaṁ na kampate| vipaśyanayā tu sakalakudṛṣṭimalaprahāṇatvād anyairabhedyā| candrapradīpasutre yathā-
akampiyaḥ śamathabalena bhoti śailopamo bhoti vipaśyanāya|
ityuktam| ataḥ ubhayena yogakaraṇaṁ sthitam|
tatra ādau saṁprati tena yoginā sukhaṁ śīghraṁ ca śamatha-vipaśyanāsiddhaye śamathavipaśyanāsambhāraḥ sevanīyaḥ| tatra śamathasaṁbhāraḥ katamaḥ? anukūladeśavāsaḥ, alpecchatā, santuṣṭiḥ, kriyābāhulyaparihāraḥ, śīlaviśuddhiḥ icchādivikalpaparityāgaśca|
tatra pañcaguṇayukto hi deśo'nukūlo jñātavyaḥ| vastrabhojanādeḥ akṛcchreṇa prāptitvāt sulabdhaḥ, durjanaśatrvādyanavasthitatvāt susthānam, nīrogabhūmitvāt subhūmiḥ, mitraśīlavatsamadṛṣṭitvāt sanmitram, divā bahujanāpūritatvād rātrau alpaśabdatvācca syuyuktam| alpecchatā katamā ? cībarāderautkṛṣṭamasya ādhikyasya vā anadhyavasanam| saṁtuṣṭiḥ katamā ? abaramātracivarāḍilābhena yaḥ sadā santoṣaḥ| kriyābāhulyaparihāraḥ katamaḥ ? krayavikrayādiduṣkarmaparihāraḥ, gṛhastha-pravrajitānyatamātisaṁstutipariharaḥ, oṣadhinirmāṇanakṣatragaṇānādiparihāraśca|
śīlaviśuddhiḥ katamā ? saṁvaradvaye'pi prakṛti-pratikṣepasāvadyaśikṣāpadābhaṅgatā, pramādabhaṅge'pi śīghrātiśīghraṁ paścāttāpena yathādharmācaraṇam| śrāvakasaṁvare pārājikapratividhāne'yogyaṁ kathanaṁ yadasti tasminnapi paścāttāpaḥ, paścācca akaraṇa-manasikāraḥ| yaccittena yatkarmaṁ kṛtam, taccitte niḥsvabhāvatāpratisaṁkhyānad sarvadharmaniḥsvabhāvatābhāvanātvāt tatchīlaviśuddhireva vaktavyā| tattu āryājātaśatrukaukṛtyavinodanād avaboddhavyam| tasmāt kaukṛtyābhāvaṁ kṛtvā bhāvanāyām abhiyogaḥ karttavyaḥ|
kāmeṣvapi iha janmāntare ca bhāvino vividhadoṣān manasikṛtya teṣu vikalpaḥ pariharttavyaḥ| etāvatā saṁsārabhāvaḥ priyo'priyo vāpi tatsarvaṁ tu vināśadharmi asthiraṁ ca| niścayena tatsarvasmin mayi ca aciraṁ viyoge bhāve sati mama tasmin katham adhyavasitādirbhaved iti bhāvanayā sarve vikalpāḥ pariharttavyāḥ|
vipaśyanā-sambhāraḥ katamaḥ? satpuruṣāśrayaḥ, bahuśrutaparyeṣaṇā, yoniśomanasikāraśca| tatra kīdṛśaṁ satpuruṣam āśrayed iti cet-yo bahuśrutaḥ prasannavāk, kāruṇiko nirvitsahaśca| tatra bahuśrutaparyeṣṭiḥ katamā ? yat sādaraṁ bhagavaddvādaśāṅgadharmapravacananeyārthanītārthātiśravaṇam| ittham āryasaṁdhinirmocane-"yatheccham āryākhyānāśravaṇaṁ hi vipaśyanāvighnaḥ" iti uktam| tatraiva "vipaśyanā ca śravaṇamananābhyāmutpannaviśuddhadṛṣṭihetorūtpadyate|" ityuktam| āryānārāyaṇaparipṛcchāyām api-"śrutimati prajñāpradurbhavati| prajñāvataḥ kleśāḥ praśāmyanti|" ityuktam|
yoniśomanasikāraḥ katamaḥ ? yasya nītārthasūtraneyārthasūtrādisunirṇayastādṛśe bodhisattve niḥśaṅke sati bhāvanāyām aikāntikaniścayo bhaviṣyati| anyathā saṁśayāndolitayānasthitastu śṛṅgāṭakamadhyagatamanuṣyavat kutrāpi aikāntikaniścayo na bhaviṣyati|
yoginā tu sadā matsyamāṁsādi parihṛtya apratikūlaṁ bhojanaṁ niyatamātrakaṁ bhoktavyam| tathā tena sāñcitasakalaśamathavipaśyanāsambhāreṇabodhisattvena bhāvanāyāṁ praveṣṭavyam|
tatra prathamaṁ tāvad yogī bhāvanākāle sarvam itikaraṇīyaṁ parisamāpyaṁ kṛtamūtrapurīṣaḥ kaṇṭakasvarādirahite mano'nūkūle pradeśe sthitvā mayā sarvasattvā bodhimaṇḍe niṣpādayitavyā iti viniścayan, sakalajagadabhyuddharaṇāśayo mahākaruṇām āmukhīkṛtya daśadigavasthitān sarvabuddhabhodhisattvān pañcāṅgena praṇipatyāgrato buddhabodhisattvan paṭādau sthāpayitvā anyatra vā yathāvat tebhyaśca yathāruci pūjāstavanaṁ kṛtvā svapāpaṁ pradeśya, sakalasya jagataḥ puṇyam anumodya, mṛdutarasukhāsane vairocanabhaṭṭārakabaddhaparyaṅkena ardhaparyaṅkena vā niṣpādya nātyunmūīlite nātinimīlite nāsikāgravinyaste cakṣuṣī kṛtvā, nātinamraṁ nātistabdham ṛjukāyaṁ praṇidhāyāntarmukhāvarjitasmṛtirupaviśet| tataḥ skandhau samau sthāpayet| śiro nonnatam nāvanataṁ eka-pārśve niścalaṁ sthāpayitavyam| kiṁ tarhi nābhipraguṇā nāsikā sthāpayitavyā| dantoṣṭhaṁ mṛdu sthāpanīyam| jivhā coparidantamūle sthāpanīyā| āśvāspraśvāsāstu na saśabdā nāpi sthūlā nāpi tvaritāḥ karaṇīyāḥ| kiṁ tvasaṁlakṣyamāṇā mandaṁ mandamanābhogena yathā praviśeyurnirgaccheyurvā tathā karaṇiyam|
tatra prathamaṁ tāvat śamatho nispādayitavyaḥ, bāhyaviṣayavikṣepaśānteḥ āntarālambane satataṁ svarasavāhi prītiprasrabdhivaccitta eva sthitistu śamatha iti ucyate| tasyaiva śamathasyālambanakāle yastattva-vicāraḥ sā vipaśyanā| āryaratnameghe yathā-"śamathaścittaikāgratā| vipaśyanā bhūtapratyavekṣeti" uktam|
āryasaṁdhinirmocane'pi-"bhagavan kathaṁ śamathaparigaveṣaṇaṁ vipaśyanākauśalaṁ cāsti ? ucyate| maitreya ! mayā dharmopacāro vyavasthāpitaḥ| tadyathā-ye sūtrageyavyākaraṇa-gāthā-udāna-nidāna-avadāna-itivṛttaka-jātaka-vaipulya-adbhūtadharma-upadeśa-vargāḥ bodhisattvebhya ākhyātāste bodhisattvaiḥ saṁśrutya saṁdhārya, pāṭhamabhyasya, manasā samparīkṣya, dṛṣṭyā supratividdhaya sa ekākī viviktasthaḥ, antaḥ pratisaṁlīnaḥ, yathāsucintitān tāneva dharmān manasikṛtya, yena cittena manasikārastaccitābhyantaraṁ satataṁ manasikāreṇa manasikāraḥ| tathā praviśya tatra bahuśaḥ sthitaḥ tasyāṁ kāyaprasrabdhicittaprasrabdhisambhavaśca yo'sti sa tu śamatha iti| tarhi bodhisattvaḥ śamathaparigaveṣaṇaṁ karoti| tena kāyaprasrabdhiḥ, cittaprasrabdhiśca| te prāpya tatraiva sthitaḥ, cittavikṣepaṁ vihāya yathā cintitadharmaḥ teṣāmeva abhyantare samādhigocarapratibimbaṁ pratyavekṣate, adhimucyate, tādṛk samādhigocarapratibimbam, tajjñeyarthe vivicyate pravivecanaṁ parikalpanaṁ paryavekṣaṇaṁ kṣāntiḥ, kāmo viśiṣṭaivbhāgo darśanam, adhigamaśca yo'sti, sā tu vipaśyanā iti, tathā ca bodhisattvavipaśyanā kauśalam ityuktam|"
tatra śamathābhinirhārakāmo yogī prathamaṁ tāvat sūtrageyādisakalapravacanaṁ tu tathatāparāyaṇam, tathatāpragbhāram, tathatāpravaṇama iti sarvaṁ saṁgrāhya tatra cittam upasthāpayet| etāvatā kiyadākāreṇa sarvadharmasaṁgrahabhute skandhādau tatra cittam upasthāpayet| etāvatā yathādṛṣṭa-yathāśrutabuddhapratimāyāṁ cittaṁ sthāpitavyam| āryasamādhirāje yathā-
suvarṇavarṇena samucchrayeṇa
samantaprāsādiku lokanāthaḥ|
yasyātra ālambani cittu vartate
samāhitaḥ socyati bodhisattva||iti uktam|
tathā yatra icchālambanaṁ tasmin cittaṁ sthāpayitvā tatraiva uparyupari satataṁ cittaṁ sthāpayet| tatra upasthāpya cittam īdṛśamevaṁ parīkṣeta| 'kim ālambanaṁ sugṛṇhāti līyate vā athavā bāhyaviṣayavyasekād vikṣipyate’ iti parīkṣitavyam| tatra yadi styānamiddhābhibhavād cittaṁ līnaṁ vā layābhiśaṅkā darśane tatkāle pramodya vastuni buddhapratimādau vā alokasaṁjñāmanasikaraḥ kartavyaḥ| atha layam upaśāmya yathāpi tatraiva ālambane cittālambanam atisphuṭadarśanaṁ bhavati tathā karaṇiyam|
yadā tu jātyandhavad andhakārapraviṣṭapuruṣavad vā vinimīlitākṣavad vā cittam ālambanaṁ atisphuṭaraṁ na paśyati tadā līnaṁ veditavyam| yadā bāhyarūpādau teṣāṁ guṇakalpanayā dhāvanena, anyamanasikāreṇa vā pūrvānubhūtaviṣayecchayā cittauddhatyaṁ vā auddhatyaśaṅkādarśanaṁ vā tadā sarve saṁskārā anityā duḥkhādimanosaṁvegavastu manasi karttavyam| tataḥ vikṣepaśāntiṁ kṛtvā smṛtisamprajanyarajjunā manonāgaḥ tadālambanastambhe eva bandhitavyaḥ| yadā layauddhatye na bhavataḥ tadālambena cittapraśamavahitāṁ paśyet, tadā ābhogaśithilikaraṇād upekṣayā tatkāle yāvadicchaṁ tiṣṭhet| itthaṁ bhāvitaśamathasya taccharīrasya cittasya ca praśrabdhirbhaviṣyati| yathecchālambane cittaṁ svavaśe bhaviṣyati| tadā śamatho niṣpanno veditavyaḥ|
tataḥ śamathaṁ niṣpādya vipaśyanāṁ bhāvayet| īdṛśaṁ ca mantavyam bhagavataḥ sarvavacanaṁ tu subhaṣitam, sākṣāt paramparayā vā tattvapratyakṣavyañajanaṁ tattvaparāyaṇameva ca| tattvajñāne ālokobhdavāt tamonirāsavat sarvadṛṣṭijālaviyogo bhaviṣyati| śamathamātreṇa jñānaśuddhirna bhaviṣyati, āvaraṇa-tamonirāsaścāpi na bhaviṣyati| prajñayā ca tattvasamyagbhāvanāyāṁ jñānaviśuddhirbhaviṣyati| prajñayā eva tattvamavagamyate prajñayaiva āvaraṇaṁ samyak prahīyate| tasmānmayā śamathe sthitvā prajñayā tattvaṁ paryeṣitavyam| śamathamātreṇa saṁtoṣo na karaṇīya iti vicāraṇīyam|
kīdṛśaṁ ca tattvam iti cet ? yat paramārthataḥ sarvavastupudgala dharmātmaśūnyam, tatprajñāparimitayā adhigamyate na cānyathā| āryasaṁdhinirmocane yathoktam "bhagavan ! kayā pāramitayā bodhisattvaḥ dharmaniḥsvabhāvatāṁ gṛṇhīyāt ? avalokiteśvara ! prajñāpāramitayā gṛhyate |" iti| tasmāt śamathe sthitvā prajñāṁ bhāvayet|
tatraivaṁ yogī vicārayet, 'pudgalaḥ na skandhadhātvāyatanavyatirikta upalabhyate| na cāpi pudgalaḥ skandhādisvabhavaḥ| te skandhādayastu anityāḥ, anekasvabhāvatvāt pudgalasya ca nityaikarūpeṇa parairupakalpitatvāt| nāpi tattvānyatvābhyām anabhilāpyapudgalasya vastutvaṁ yuktam| vastusataḥ prakārāntarābhāvāt| tasmāt tadyathā bhrama eva ayaṁ lokasya yadutāhaṁ memeti vicāritavyam|
dharmanairātmyamapi evaṁ bhavanīyam| dharma iti saṁkṣepataḥ pañcaskandho dvādaśāyatanam, aṣṭādaśadhātavaśca| tatra ye ca skandhāyatanadhāturūpiṇaḥ, na te paramārthataḥ cittākāravyatiriktāḥ| tatparamāṇuśo vibhāge paramāṇavo'pi bhāgaśaḥ svabhāvatāpratyavekṣamāṇāḥ svabhāvaniścayagrahaṇābhāvāt| tasmād anādikālikavitatharūpādyabhiniveśavaśāt svapnopalabhyamānarūpādipratibhāsavad bālānāṁ cittameva bahiḥ vicchinnamiva rūpādipratibhāsaṁ khyāti| paramārthatastatra rūpādistu na cittākāravyatirikta iti vicārayet| tad evaṁ traidhātukamidaṁ tu cittamātramiti cintayet| sa evaṁ cittameva sakaladharmaprajñaptiṁ niścitya tatra pratyavekṣya ca sarvadharmāṇāṁ svabhāvaḥ pratyavekṣito bhavatīti cittasvabhāvamapi pratyavekṣate| sa evaṁ vicārayati|
cittamapi paramārthaḥ satyaṁ bhavitum na yujyate| yadā hi alīkasvabhāvarūpādyākaropagrahaṇe cittameva citrākāraṁ pratibhāsate, tadā satyatvaṁ kutra bhavet| yathā rūpādī alīkaṁ tathā cittamapi tadavyatiriktatvād alīkameva| yathā citrākāratayā rūpādayo naikānekasvabhāvāḥ tathā cittamapi tadavyatirekeṇa anikānekasvabhāvam| tasmāt māyādisvabhāvopamameva cittam|
yathā cittamevaṁ sarvadharmā api māyāsvabhāvasadṛśā eva iti vicārayet| tena tathā prajñayā cittasvabhāve pratyevekṣamāṇe paramārthataḥ cittam abhyantare'pi nopalabhate, bāhye'pi nopalabhate, anubhayo'pi nopalabhate, atītacittamapi nopalabhate, anāgatamapi nopalabhate, pratyutpannamapi nopalabhate| nāpi cittamutpādyamānaṁ kuto'pyāgacchati, nāpi nirudhyamānaṁ kvacidapi gacchati| cittaṁ tu agrāhyam anirdeśyam, arūpam ca| anirdeśyam agrahyam arūpam ca yadasti tasya svabhāvaḥ kīdṛśaḥ ? tathā āryaratnakūṭe yathoktam-"kāśyapa ! cittaṁ tu parigaveṣyamāṇaṁ na labhyate| yanna labdhaṁ tanna ālambyate yacca nālambyate| tannātītam, nānāgatam, na ca pratyutpannam|" iti vistaraḥ| tad evaṁ parīkṣyamāṇe cittasya ādiṁ na samanupasyati, antaṁ na samanupaśyati madhyaṁ na samanupaśyati|
yathā ca cittam anantamadhyaṁ tathā sarvadharmānapi anantamadhyam avagacchet| tena tadevaṁ cittam anantamadhyam avagamya kimapi cittasvabhāvaṁ nopalabhate| yadapi cittaṁ parīkṣyate tadapi śūnyaṁ pratividhyati| tatpratividhyamāne cittaviṭhapanāsvabhāvaṁ rūpādisvabhāvamapi na samanupaśyati| tena tathā prajñayā sarvadharmasvabhāvasya asamanudarśanatvād rūpaṁ nityam anityaṁ vā, śūnyam aśūnyaṁ vā, sāsravam anāsravaṁ vā, utpannam anutpannaṁ vā, bhāvo'bhāvo vetī na vikalpayati| yathā rūpaṁ na vikalpayati tathā vedanāsaṁjñāsaṁskāravijñāneṣvapi na vikalpayati| asiddhe dharmiṇi tasya viśeṣaṇānāmapi asiddhatvāt, tatra kathaṁ vikalpayet| tad evaṁ prajñayā parīkṣyamāṇo yadā yoginā kasyacid vastunaḥ svabhāvaparamārthaniścayo na gṛhyate, tadā nirvikalpasamādhau praviśati| sarvadharmaniḥsvabhāvatā api avagamyate|
yaḥ prajñayā vastusvabhāvaṁ pratyavekṣya na bhāvayan, manasikāraparihāramātraṁ bhāvayati, tasya vikalpaḥ kadāpi na nivartate, na ca niḥsvabhāvatāvabodho'pi bhaviṣyati, prajñālokābhāvāt| evaṁ samyakpratyavekṣaṇāt samyagyathāvajjñānāgnibhāve'raṇimanthanāgnivat kalpanāvṛkṣo dahyate iti bhagavatā uktam|
tathā uktam āryaratnameghe-"sa evam apakṣālakuśalaḥ sarvaprapañcavigamāya śūnyatābhāvanāya yogamāpadyate| sa śūnyatābhāvanabahulo yeṣu yeṣu sthāneṣu cittaṁ prasarati, cittamabhiramate, tāni tāni sthānāni svabhāvataḥ parigaveṣamāṇaḥ śūnyaṁ pratividhyati| yat cittaṁ tadapi parīkṣamāṇaḥ śūnyaṁ pratividhyati, yenāpi cittena parīkṣate tad api svabhāvataḥ śūnyaṁ parigaveṣyamāṇaṁ pratividhyati| sa evam upaparīkṣamāṇo nirnimittatāyāṁ yogamāpadyate|" iti bhavati| anena tu paryavekṣaṇapūrvagāmitāyāḥ nirnimittatāpraveśaṁ darśayati| manasikāraparihāramātram, prajñayā vastusvabhāvatāṁ ca avicārya, avikalpatāpraveśam asaṁbhāvya, atisphuṭataraṁ darśayati| tathā tayā prajñayā rūpādivastusvabhāvaṁ samyag yathāvat parīkṣya dhyāyati, rūpādau sthitvā dhyānaṁ na karoti| ihalokaparalokayormadhye sthitvā dhyānaṁ na karoti, tadrūpādyanupalambhāt| tasmād apratiṣṭhitadhyāna iti ucyate|
prajñayā skalavastusvabhāvatāṁ prativīkṣya yasmād anupalambhaṁ dhyāyati-tasmāt prajñottaradhyāyī iti ucyate| āryagaganagañja-āryaratnacūḍādiṣu yathā nirdiṣṭam|
sa evaṁ pudgaladharmanairātmyamayaṁ tattvamavatīrṇaḥ, aparasya parīkṣaṇīyasya darśanīyasya ca abhāvād uparatam, vitarka-vicāra-anabhilāpyaikarasena manasā svarasavāhinā anabhisaṁskāratastattvameva sphuṭataraṁ bhāvayan tiṣṭhet| tatra ca sthitaścittasaṁtānaṁ na vikṣipet| yadāntarā rāgādīnāṁ cittaṁ bahirdhā vikṣapet tadā vikṣepaṁ viditvā śighram aśubhabhāvanādivikṣepam upaśamya śīghraṁ tathatāyāṁ cittam uparyupari praveśayet| yadā tu tatrānabhirataṁ cittaṁ paśyet, tadā samādherguṇadarśanād abhiratiṁ tatra bhāvayet| vikṣepe ca doṣadarśanād aratiṁ praśamayet| atha styānamiddhābhibhavād yadā sphuṭapracāratayā līnaṁ cittaṁ paśyet, layābhiśaṅkitaṁ vā tadā pūrvavat pramodyavastu manasikāreṇa śīghraṁ layamupaśamayet| punaḥ tad eva tattvālambanam atidṛḍhataraṁ gṛṇhīyāt| yadi tadā pūrvahasitaramitānyanusmṛtya cittamantarā samṛddhataṁ paśyed auddhatyābhiśaṅkitaṁ vā tadā anityatādisaṁvegavastumanasikārād vikṣepaṁ śamayet| tataḥ punastatraiva tattve cittānabhisaṁskāravāhitāyāṁ yatnaṁ kurvīta|
atha yadā layauddhatyābhyāṁ viviktatayā samapravṛttaṁ svarasavāhisphuṭataraṁ tatraiva tattve cittaṁ utpādayate, tadā bhogaśithilīkaraṇād upekṣaṇiyam| yadi samapravṛtte citte sati ābhogaḥ kriyate, tadā cittaṁ vikṣepyate| līne'pi citte sati, yadyābhogo na kriyate, tadā atilīnatvād vipaśyanārahitaṁ, cittaṁ ca jātyandhavad bhaviṣyati| tasmāccitte līne sati bhogaṁ kuvīta| samapravṛtte sati bhogaṁ na kurvīta| yadā ca vipaśyanāṁ bhāveyat prajñātiriktatarā bhavet, tadā śamathasyālpatvāt pravātasthita-pradīpavat pracalatvāccittasya na sphuṭaraṁ tattvadarśanaṁ bhavet| atastadā śamathau bhāvayitavyaḥ| śamathasyābhyadhikye'pi prajñā bhāvayitavyā|
yadā ubhayaṁ samapravṛttaṁ tadā anabhisaṁskāreṇaiva tāvat sthātavyaṁ yāvat kāyacittapīḍā na bhavet| satyāṁ kāyādipīḍāyāṁ tadantarā sakalameva lokaṁ māyāmarīcisvapnajalacandropamapratibhāsavad dṛṣṭvā īdṛśaṁ cintanīyam| amī sattvāstu evaṁ vidhadharmagāmbhiryānavabodhatayā saṁsāre saṁkliṣṭāḥ| tato'haṁ kariṣyāmi tāṁstāṁ dharmatām avabodhayeyuḥ, tathā kariṣyāmi' iti cintayan mahākaruṇāṁ bodhicittābhimukhīṁ kurvita| tato viśramya punarapi tathaiva sarvadharmanirābhāsaṁ samādhimavataret| citte'tikhede sati, tathaiva viśramet| ayaṁ tu śamathavipaśyanāyuganaddhapravṛttimārgaḥ savikalpanirvikalpapratibimbam ālambate|
evaṁ yogī anena krameṇa ghaṭikām ardhapraharam ekapraharaṁ vā yāvatkālecchāparyantaṁ tattvaṁ bhāvayan tiṣṭhet| idaṁ tvarthapravicayadhyānam āryalaṅkāvatāre nirdiṣṭam| tata icchayā samādherutthātuṁ paryaṅkam abhittvaivam anuvicintayet, amī dharmāḥ sarve paramārthataḥ niḥsvabhāvāḥ santo'pi saṁvṛtau vyavasthitā eva| tathā'sati karmaphalasambandhādayaḥ kathaṁ vyavasthitāḥ syuḥ ? bhagavatā coktam-
"bhāvā vidyanti saṁvṛtyā paramārthe na bhāvakāḥ|" ityuktam|
amī bālabuddhayo niḥsvabhāvavastuṣu bhāvādisamāropeṇa viparyastabuddhayo bhavanti| cirakālaṁ saṁsāracakre paribhramanti, tato'haṁ kariṣyāmi anuttarapuṇyajñānasambhāraṁ paripūrya, tataḥ sarvajñapadaṁ prāpya tān dharmatām avabodhayeyam| evaṁ vicintayet| atha śanaiḥ paryaṅkaṁ bhittvā daśadigvyavasthitān sarvabuddhobodhisattvān praṇipatya tebhyaśca pūjāstotropahāraṁ kṛtvāryabhadracaryādimahāpraṇidhānaṁ praṇidadhīta| tataḥ śūnyatākaruṇāgarbhasakaladānādipuṇyasaṁbhāropārjane'bhiyogaḥ karaṇīyaḥ|
tathā ca sati taddhyānasarvākāravaropetaśunyatābhinirhāraḥ syāt| āryaratnacūḍe yathoktam-"sa maitrīvarmasaṁnaddho mahākaruṇāsthāne sthitvā sarvākāravaropetaśūnyatābhinirhāradhyānaṁ karoti| tatra sarvākāravaropetaśūnyatā katamā ? yā dānānapagati-śīlānapagati-kṣāntyanapagati-vīryānapagati-dhyānānapagati-prajñanāpagati-upāyānapagatītyādivistaroktiriti|" bodhisattvastu sarvasattvaparipākaṁ kurvīta| kṣetrakāyabahuparivārādisaṁpattiprādurbhāvopāyadānādikuśalaṁ cāvaśyaṁ seveta|
asati ca tathā buddhānām kṣetrādisaṁpattiryoktā sā kasya phalaṁ syāt| tasmāt sarvākāravaropetaṁ tatsarvajñajñānaṁ tu dānādyupāyena paripūryamāṇatvād bhagavān tat sarvajñajñānam upāyena paryantagatam ityavocat| tasmād bodhisattvena dānādyupāyo'pi sevitavyo na tu śūnyatā eva| āryasarvadharmavaipulye "yo'yaṁ maitreya ! ṣaṭpāramitāsamudāgamo bidhisattvānāṁ sambodhāya taṁ te mohapuruṣā evaṁ vakṣyanti, prajñāpāramitāyām evaṁ bodhisattvena śikṣitavyam, kiṁ śeṣābhiḥ pāramitābhiriti ucyante| te'nyāḥ pāramitā dūṣayitavyā maṁsyante| tat kiṁ manyase ajita! duṣprajñaḥ sa kāśirājo'bhūd yena kapotārthena śyenāya svamāṁsāni dattāni ? maitreya āha, no hīdaṁ bhagavan| bhagavān āha-yāni mayā maitreya ! bodhisattvacaryāṁ caratā ṣaṭpāramitā-pratisaṁyuktāni kuśalamūlānyupacitāni, apakṛtaṁ nu taiḥ kuśalamūlaiḥ ? maitreya āha no hīdaṁ bhagavan| bhagavān āha-tvaṁ tāvad ajita ! ṣaṣṭikalpāna dānāpāramitāyāṁ samudāgataḥ, ṣaṣṭikalpān śīlapāramitāyaṁ ṣaṣṭikalpān kṣāntipāramitāyāṁ ṣaṣṭikalpān viryapāramitāyāṁ ṣaṣṭikalpān dhyānapāramitāyāṁ ṣaṣṭikalpān prajñāpāramitāyāṁ samudāgataḥ| tat te mohapuruṣā evaṁ vakṣyanti| ekanayenaiva bodhiryaduta śūnyatānayeneti te caryāpariśuddhā bhavantītyādi|"
upāyarahite sati bodhisattvaḥ prajñayā eva tu śrāvakavat buddhakāryāṇi kartuṁ na śaknoti| upāyasanāthaśca samartho bhavati| āryaratnakūṭe yathoktam-"tadyathā kāśyapa ! amātyasaṁgṛhītā rājānaḥ sarvakāryāṇi kurvanti, evameva upāyakauśalyasaṁgṛhītā bodhisattvasya prajñā sarvabuddhakāryāṇi karoti|" iti| bodhisattvānāṁ mārgadṛṣṭerapyanyā tīrthikānāṁ śrāvakāṇāṁ ca mārgadṛṣṭirapyanyā| evaṁ tīrthikamārgadṛṣṭistu ātmādau viparyāsayuktatvāt sarveṇa sarvaḥ prajñārahito mārgaḥ| tasmāt te muktiṁ na prāpnuvanti|
śrāvakāṇāṁ tu mahākaruṇārahitatvād upāyāyukatā| tasmāt te ekāntanirvāṇaparāyaṇāḥ bhavanti| bodhisattvamārgastu prajñopāyayukto manyate| tasmāt te apratiṣṭhitanirvāṇaparāyaṇā bhavanti| bodhisattvānāṁ mārgastu prajñopāyayukto manyate| tasmāt te apratisṭhitanirvāṇaṁ prāpnuvanti| prajñābalena tu saṁsāre na patati, upāyabalena ca nirvāṇe na patati|
tasmād āryagayāśīrṣe-"dvāvimau bodhisattvānāṁ saṁkṣiptau mārgau| katamau dvau-yaduta prajñā copāyaśca| " ityākhyātam| āryaśrīparamādye'pi uktam- "prajñāpāramitā tu 'mātā' asti, upāyakauśalyaṁ ca 'pitā' asti|" āryavimalakīrtinirdeśasūtre'pi-"bodhisattvānāṁ kiṁ bandhanam ? kā ca muktiḥ ? anupāyena bhavagatiparigraho hi bodhisattvasya bandhanam| upāyena bhavagatigamanaṁ muktiḥ| prajñārahitabhāvagatiparigraho bodhisattvasya bandhanam| prajñayā bhavagatigamanaṁ tu muktiḥ| upāyena aparigṛhītā prajñā hi bandhanam| upāyena parigṛhitā prajñā muktiḥ| prajñayāparigṛhītopāyo bandhanam| prajñayā gṛhītopāyaḥ muktiḥ iti" vistarena uktam|
bodhisattvasya prajñāmātrasevanaṁ tu śrāvakeṣṭanirvāṇapatitatvād bandhanavad bhaviṣyati| apratiṣṭhitanirvāṇena muktirna bhaviṣyati| tasmādupāyarahitā prajñā tu bodhisattvānāṁ bandhanamityucyate| tasmād vāyupīḍitena agnisevanavad bodhisattvena viparyāsavāyumātraprahāṇatvāt sopyāprajñayā śūnyatā sevitavyā, na tu śrāvakavat sākṣātkaraṇīyā| yathā āryadaśadharmasūtre coktam-"kulaputra ! tadyathā yathā kaścinmanuṣyaḥ agniparicaryāṁ karoti, sa tadagnisatkāraṁ karoti, guruṁ karoti, kintu so'yamiti mayā so'gniḥ satkṛtya, gurūkṛtya mānitaśca iti kṛte'pi eṣa dvābhyāṁ hastābhyāṁ parigṛhītavya iti na cintayati| tat kasmāditi cet tannidhānne mayi kāyikaduḥkhaṁ cittadaurmanasyaṁ vā sambhāvyate iti cintanāt| tathaiva ca bodhisattve'pi nirvāṇāśayo'pyasti, nirvāṇa-pratyakṣaṁ na karoti| tat kasya hetoriti cet ? tannidhānād ahaṁ bodhiṁ nirvarteyam iti cintanād" iti|
kevalam upāyamātrasevane'pi bodhisattvaḥ pṛthagjanabhūmeranuttīrṇatvād atyavabaddha eva bhaviṣyati| tasmāt prajñāsahitamupāyaṁ seveta| evaṁ mantraparigṛhītaviṣavad bodhisattvakleśe'pi prajñāparigrahabalena bhāvite sati amṛtikatā| punaḥ svabhāvena abhyudayaphalaṁ dānādi yadasti tatra kimuta vaktavyam| āryaratnakuṭe coktaṁ yathā- "tadyathā'pi nāma kāśyapa ! mantrauṣadhaparigṛhītaṁ viṣaṁ na vinipātayati evameva bodhisattvānām kleśaḥ prajñāparigṛhitatvād api na śaknoti vinipātayitum iti|"
tasmād yena kāraṇena bodhisattva upāyabalena saṁsāramanutsṛjati tasmād nirvāṇe na patati| yasmāt prajñābalena sakalālambanaṁ prahīyate tasmāt saṁsāre na patati, tasmād apratiṣṭhitanirvāṇabuddhatvaṁ prāpyate| tasmād āryagaganagañje'pi uktam-"tatprajñānena hi sarvakleśāḥ parivarjyante| upāyajñānena hi sarvasattvā na parityajyante|" iti| āryasaṁdhinirmocane'pi-"ekāntasattvārthavimukhasya ekāntasaṁskārābhisaṁskāravimukhasya nānuttarā samyaksaṁbodhiruktā mayeti|" tasmād buddhatvaprātukāmena prajñopāyau ubhau sevitavyau|
tatra lokottaraprajñābhāvanāvasare, atisamāhitāvasare vā dānādyupāyasevanāsambhāvanāyāmapi tatra prayogatatpṛṣṭhalabdhaprajñayoḥ yo'pi bhavati, tadā upāyasevanaṁ bhavatyeva| tasmāt prajñāpāyau yugapat pravartete| punaraparaṁ bodhisattvānām ayaṁ hi prajñopāyayuganaddhavāhi mārgaḥ sarvasattvāvalokitamahākaruṇayā parigṛhītatvāt lokottaramārgaḥ sevyate, utthānopāyakāle'pi māyākāravad aviparyastameva dānādi sevyate| āryākṣayamatinirdeśe'pi yathoktam-"tatra ko hi bodhisattvopāyaḥ ? kaśca prajñābhinirhāra iti ? yataḥ samādhāne sattvāvalokitamahākaruṇāvalambane cittopasthāpanā sa eva upāyaḥ | yataḥ śāntipraśāntisamāpattiḥ sā tu tatprajñā " iti vistaraḥ| māradamanaparicchede'pi uktam-"punaraparaṁ bodhisattvānāṁ samutkarṣikaprayogastu prajñājñānena abhiyogaṁ karoti| upayajñānena sarvakuśaladharmasaṁgraho'pi prayujyate| prajñājñānena nairātmya-asattva-ajīva-apoṣa-apudgaleṣu ca prayujyate| upāyajñānena yaḥ sarvasattvaparipāko'pi prayojyaḥ" iti vistaraḥ| āryadharmasaṁgītisūtre'pi-
māyākāro yathā kaścinnirmitaṁ mokṣamudyataḥ|
na cāsya nirmite saṅgo jñātapūrvo yato'sya saḥ||
tribhavaṁ nirmitaprakhyaṁ jñātvā sambodhipāragaḥ|
saṁnahyate jagaddhetorjñātapūrva jagat tathā||iti|
bodhisattvanām prajñopāyavidhireva sādhyamadhikṛtya tatprayogasaṁsāre sthito'pi asti, āśayanirvāṇe sthito'pi syād ityuktam|
tādṛśyāṁ śūnyatāmahākaruṇāgarbhānuttarasamyaksaṁbuddhau pariṇatadānādyupāyabhāvanāṁ kṛtvā, paramārthabodhicittotpādārtha pūrvavat nityaṁ kāle kāle śamathavipaśyanāprayogo yathāśakti bhāvanīyaḥ| āryagocarapariśuddhisūtre-sarvāvasthāsu sattvārthakāribodhisattvānāmanuśaṁsā yathā nirdiṣṭā tathā saṁnihitasmṛtyā sarvadā upāayakauśalaṁ bhāvitavyam|
tādṛkkaruṇopāyabodhicittabhāvakaḥ sa iha janmani avaśyaṁ viśiṣṭo bhavati| tasmāt svapne nityaṁ buddhabodhisattvadarśanaṁ bhaviṣyati| susvapnāntarāṇyapi dṛśyante| devā api anumodanād rakṣāṁ kariṣyanti| pratikṣaṇamapi vipulapuṇyajñānasambhārasaṁcayo bhaviṣyati| kleśāvaraṇadauṣṭhulyamapi kṣīṇaṁ bhaviṣyati| sarvadaiva sukhasaumanasyamadhikaṁ bhaviṣyati| bahujanapriyo bhaviṣyati| śarīre'pi rogagrasto na bhaviṣyati| paramacittakarmaṇyatāpi prāptā bhaviṣyati| tasmād abhijñatādiviśiṣṭaguṇaprāptiḥ|
atha ṛddhibalena anantalokadhātūn gatvā bhagavato buddhān pūjayati| tebhyaḥ dharmo'pi śrūyate| maraṇasamaye'pi avaśyameva buddhabodhisattvadarśanaṁ bhaviṣyati| janmāntare'pi buddhabodhisattvānapagatadeśaviśiṣṭagṛhe cāpi janma bhaviṣyati| tasmād anāyāsapuṇyajñānasambhāraḥ paripūrayiṣyate| mahābhogo bahuparivāraśca bhaviṣyati| tīkṣṇaprajñayā bahujanaparipākamapi kariṣyanti| sarvajātiṣu jātismaraṇaṁ bhaviṣyati| tādṛśī aparimitānuśaṁsā sūtrāntareṣu saṁbhūtā avagantavyā|
tena tādṛkkaruṇopāyabodhicittāni ca nityam ādareṇa ciraṁbhavitāni kramaśaḥ cittasaṁtāne atipariśuddhakṣaṇotpādena paripākabhūtatvād araṇimanthanāgnivat samyagarthabhāvanāprakarṣaparyantaṁ gamanaṁ bhūtvā lokottarajñānasakalavikalpajālāpagamanaṁ niṣprapañcadharmadhātuprasphuṭāvagati, nirmalaniścalanirvātasthitapradīpavat niścalapramāṇabhūtaḥ, sarvadharmanairātmyasvabhāvaḥ tattvasākṣātkārī, darśanamārgasaṁgṛhītaḥ paramārthabodhicittasvabhāva utpadyate| tadutpādād vastuparyantatālambane praviṣṭaḥ| tathāgatagotre utpadyate, bodhisattvānapakṣālapravṛttiḥ, lokasarvagatinivṛttiḥ, bodhisattvadharmatādharmadhātvavabodhasthitiḥ, prāptabodhisattvaprathamabhūmiḥ ityanuśaṁsā tadvistaraḥ daśabhūmyādiṣu avagantavyaḥ| idaṁ tathatālambanadhyānam āryalaṅkāvatāre nirdiṣṭam| idaṁ tu bodhisattvānām niṣprapañcanirvikalpatāyāmeva praviśati|
adhimuktibhūmau tu adhimuktivaśāt pravṛttirvyavasthāpitā na tu abhisaṁskāreṇa| tajjñānaprādurbhāve tu sākṣāt praveśaḥ| tathā prathamabhūmipraveśaḥ tadanantaraṁ bhāvanāmārge lokottareṇa tatpṛṣṭhalabdhajñānena dvābhyāṁ ca prajñopāyabhāvanākrameṇa bhāvanāpraheyasaṁcitāvaraṇasya sūkṣmasūkṣmataravyavadānād uttarottaraviśiṣṭaguṇaprāptaye adhobhūmipariśodhanena tathāgatajñānaparyantaṁ praviśya, sarvajñatāsāgaram avatīrya, kāryapariniṣpattyālambanamapi prāpnoti| evaṁ krameṇa eva cittasaṁtānapariśuddhiḥ āryalaṅkāvatāre'pi uktā| āryasaṁdhinirvocane'pi yathoktam-"krameṇottarottarabhūmisu suvarṇavat cittaṁ vyavadāya, anuttarasaṁyaksaṁbodhiparyantam abhisaṁbudhyati" iti|
sarvajñatāsāgarapraveśe sati cintamaṇivat sakalasattvopajīviguṇaskandhayuktaḥ pūrvapraṇīdhānaphalasatkṛtaḥ, mahākaruṇāsvabhāvabhūtaḥ, anābhoganānopayayuktaḥ, aparimitanirmāṇairaśeṣajagatsarvārthākaraḥ kṛtaḥ| aśeṣaguṇasaṁpattiprakarṣaparyantabhutaḥ, savāsanādoṣaṁ sakalamalaṁ nirākṛtya, sattvadhātvantaparyantavihārī, iti prekṣāvān bhagavati buddhe sakalaguṇākare śraddhām utpādya tadguṇapariniṣpattyarthaṁ svayaṁ sarvān prayatnān kuryāt| tasmād bhagavatā evamuktam-"tadetat sarvajñajñānaṁ karuṇāmūlaṁ bodhicittahetukam upāyaparyavasānam" iti|
dūrīkṛterṣyādimalā hi santo guṇairatṛptāḥ salilairivābdhiḥ|
vivecya gṛṇhanti subhāṣitāni haṁsāḥ payo yatpayāṁsi prahṛṣṭāḥ||
pakṣapātākulaṁ tasmād dūrīkṛtaṁ mano budhaiḥ|
sarvameva grahītavyaṁ bālādapi subhāṣitam||
prakāśya yat prāpi mayā śubham asamapaddhitam|
puṇyamastu janastena prāpto madhyamapaddhitam||
ācāryakamalaśīlena madhye nibaddho bhāvanākramaḥ samāptaḥ|
bharatīyopādhyāyena prajñāvarmaṇā mahālokacakṣuṣā vandyajñānasenena
cānūdya sunirṇitaḥ|

mahāyānasūtrāntanayapravṛttānāṁ saṁkṣepato bhāvanākramaḥ kathyate| tatra yadyapi bodhisattvānāmaparimito'pramāṇādibhedene bhagavatā samadhirupadiṣṭaḥ, tathāpi śamathavipaśyanābhyāṁ sarve samādhayo vyāptā iti| sa eva śamathavipaśyanāyuganaddhavāhī mārgastāvat kathyate| uktaṁ ca bhagavatā-
nimittabandhanāj janturatho doṣṭhulabandhanāt|
vipaśyanāṁ bhāvayitvā śamathaṁ ca vimucyate|| iti|
tasmāt sakalāvaraṇa-prahāṇārthina śamathavipaśyane sevanīye| śamathabalena svālambane cittam aprakampyaṁ bhavati nivātasthitapradīpavat| vipaśyanayā yathāvad dharmatattvāvagamāt samyagjñānālokaḥ samutpadyate, tataḥ sakalam āvaraṇaṁ prahīyate, andhakāravad ālokodayāt|
ata eva bhagavatā catvāryālambanavastūni yogināṁ nirdiṣṭāni| nirvikalpapratibimbakam, savikalpapratibimbakam, vastuparyantatā, kāryapariniṣpattiśca| tatra śamathena yat sarvadharmapratibimbakaṁ buddhādirūpaṁ cādhimucyālambyate tena nirvikalpapratibimbakam ucyate| tatra bhūtārthanirūpaṇāvikalpābhāvān nirvikalpakam ucyate| yathāśrutodgṛhītānāñca dharmāṇāṁ pratibimbakam adhimucyālambyata iti kṛtvā pratibimbakam ucyate| tad eva pratibimbakaṁ yadā vipaśyanayā vicārayati yogī tattvādhigamārthaṁ tadā savikalpapratibimbakam ucyate, tattvanirūpaṇavikalpasya vipaśyanālakṣaṇasya tatra samudbhavāt| tasyaiva ca pratibimbasya svabhāvaṁ nirūpayan yogī darpaṇāntargatasvamukha-pratibimbapratyavekṣaṇena svamukhagatavairūpyāṇāṁ viniścayavat, sarvadharmāṇāṁ yathāvat svabhāvāvagamāt| yadā vastu paryantatālakṣaṇāṁ tathatāṁ pratibidhyati, tadā vastuparyantatāvagamāt prathamāyāṁ bhūmau vastuparyantatālambanam ucyate| tato bhāvanāmārgeṇa pariśiṣṭāsu bhūmiṣvoṣadhirasāyanopayogād iva krameṇa viśuddhataratamakṣaṇodayād āśrayaparāvṛttau satyām, āvaraṇa-prahāṇalakṣaṇa-kāryaparisamāptiryadā bhavati tadā buddhabhūmau tad eva jñānaṁ kāryapariniṣpattyālambanam ucyate|
tad evam anena kiṁ darśitaṁ bhavati ? śamathavipaśyanābhyāṁ samastavastuparyantatādhigamo bhavati| tena cāvaraṇaprahāṇalakṣaṇā kāryapariniṣpattiravāpyate| tad eva ca buddhatvam| ato buddhatvādhigamārthinā śamathavipaśyane sevanīye| yastu te na sevate tasya naiva vastuparyantatādhigamo nāpi kāryapariniṣpattiriti| tatra śamathaścittaikāgratā| vipaśyanā bhūtapratyavekṣeti saṁkṣepād āryaratnameghādau bhagavatā śamathavipaśyanayorlakṣaṇam uktam| tatra yoginā śīlaviśuddhayādau śamathavipaśyanāsaṁbhāre sthitena sarvasattveṣu mahākaruṇām utpādya, samutpādita-bodhicittena śrutacintābhāvanāyāṁ prayoktavyam|
tatra prathamaṁ tāvad yogī bhāvanā-kāle sarvam itikaraṇiyaṁ parisamāpya kṛtamūtrapurīṣaḥ kaṇṭaka-svarādirahite mano'nukūle pradeśe sthitvā mayā sarvasattvā bodhimaṇḍe niṣpādayitavyā iti viniścayan, sakalajagadabhyuddharaṇāśayo mahākaruṇām āmukhīkṛtya, daśadigavasthitān sarvabuddhabodhisattvān pañcāṅgena praṇipatyāgrato buddhabodhisattvān pīṭhādau sthāpayitvā anyatra vā yathāvat tebhyaśca yathāruci pūjāstavanaṁ kṛtvā svapāpaṁ pradeśya, sakalasdya jagataḥ puṇyam anumodya, mṛdutarasukhāsane vairocanabhaṭṭārakabaddhaparyaṅkeṇa ardhaparyeṅkeṇa vā niṣadya nātyunmīlite nātinimīlite nāsikāgravinyaste cakṣuṣī kṛtvā, nātinamraṁ nātistabdham ṛjukāyaṁ praṇidhāyāntarmukhāvarjitasmṛtirupaviśet| tataḥ skandhau samau sthāpayet| śiro nonnataṁ nāvanatam ekapārśve niścalaṁ sthāpayitavyam| kiṁ tarhi nābhipraguṇā nāsikā sthāpayitavyā| dantoṣṭhaṁ mṛdu sthāpanīyam| jivhā copari dantamūle sthāpanīyā| āśvāsapraśvāsāstu na saśabdā nāpi śthūlā nāpi tvaritāḥ karaṇīyāḥ| kiṁ tvasaṁlakṣayamāṇāṁ mandaṁ mandamanābhogena yathā praviśeyurnirgaccheyurvā tathā karaṇiyam|
tatra prathamaṁ tāvad yogī yathādṛṣṭaśrute tathāgatavigrahe cittaṁ sthāpayitvā śamathaṁ niṣpādayet| tañca tathāgatavigraham uttaptakanakāvadātaṁ lakṣaṇānuvyañjanālaṁkṛtaṁ parṣanmaṇḍalamadhyagataṁ nānāvidhairupāyaiḥ sattvārthaṁ kurvantaṁ prābandhikena manasikāreṇa tadguṇābhilāṣaṁ samupādāya layauddhatyādīn vyupaśamayya tāvad dhyāyed yāvat sphuṭataraṁ puro'vasthitamiva taṁ paśyet| tataḥ tasya tathāgatavigrahapratibimbakasyāgatigatiṁ nirūpayato vipaśyanāṁ bhāvayati| tataścaivaṁvidhaṁ vicintayet| yathedaṁ tathāgatavigrahapratibimbakaṁ na kutaścid āgataṁ nāpi kvacid gamiṣyati tiṣṭhadapi svabhāvaśūnyam ātmātmīyarahitaṁ tathā eva sarvadharmāḥ svabhāvaśūnyā āgatigatirahitāḥ pratibimbopamāḥ, bhāvādirūparahitā iti vicāryoparatavicāreṇa nirjalpaikarase manasā tattvaṁ bhāvayan yāvadicchaṁ tiṣṭhet| ayaṁ ca samādhiḥ pratyutpannabuddhasaṁmukhāvasthitasamādhirnirdiṣṭaḥ| asya cānuśaṁsā vistaratastatraiva sutre bodhayitavyā|
etāvatā prakāreṇa sarvadharmasaṁgraho bhavati, tatra cittam upanibadhya layauddhatyādipraśamena śamathaṁ niṣpādayet| rūpyarūpibhedena ca saṁkṣepāt sarvadharmasaṁgrahaḥ| tatra rūpaskandhasaṁgṛhītā rūpiṇaḥ| vedanādiskandhasvabhāvā arūpiṇaḥ| tatra bālā bhāvādigrahābhiniveśād viparyastadhiyaḥ saṁsāre paribhramanti| teṣāṁ viparyāsāpanayanāya, teṣu ca mahākaruṇām āmukhīkṛtya, niṣpannaśamatho yogī tattvādhigamāya tato vipaśyanāṁ bhāvayet| bhūtapratyavekṣaṇā ca vipaśyanocyate| bhutaṁ punaḥ pudgaladharmanairātmyam|
tatra pudgalanairātmyaṁ yā skandhānāmātmātmīyarahitatā| dharmanairātmyaṁ yā teṣāmeva māyopamatā| tatraivaṁ yogī nirūpayet| na tāvad rūpādivyatiriktaḥ pudgalo'sti| tasyā pratibhāsanāt| rūpādiṣvevāhamiti pratyayotpattiśca| na cāpi rūpādiskandhasvabhāvaḥ pudgalaḥ| teṣāṁ rūpādīnāmanityānekasvabhāvatvāt| pudgalasya ca nityaikarūpeṇa parairupakalpitatvāt| nāpi tattvānyatvābhyām anabhilāpyapudgalasya vastutvaṁ yuktam| vastusataḥ prakārāntarābhāvāt| tasmād alīkavibhrama evāyaṁ lokasya yadutāhaṁ mameti niścayaṁ pratipannasya| tato rūpiṇo'pi dharmān dharmanairātmyādhigamāya vicārayet-kim ete cittavyatirekeṇa paramārthasantaḥ sthitāḥ āhosviccittameva rūpādinirbhāsaṁ svapnāvasthāyāṁ pratibhāsavat pratibhāsata iti| sa tān paramāṇuśo nirūpayan, paramāṇūṁśca bhāgaśaḥ pratyavekṣamāṇo nopalabhate| tathā cānupalabhamānasteṣu astināstitvavikalpān nivartayati|
cittamātrañca traidhātukam avatarati nānyathā| atha coktaṁ laṅkāvatāre-
aṇuśo vibhajati dravyaṁ na caiva rūpaṁ vikalpayet|
cittamātravyavasthānaṁ kudṛṣṭyā na prasīdati||iti|
tasyaivaṁ bhavati cittamevānādikālikavitatharūpādyabhiniveśavaśāt svapnopalabhyamānarūpādipratibhāsavad bālānāṁ bahiḥ vicchinnamiva rūpādipratibhāsaṁ khyāti| tasmāccittamātrameva traidhātukam| sa evaṁ cittameva sakaladharmaprajñaptiṁ niścitya tatra pratyavekṣya ca sarvadharmāṇāṁ svabhāvaḥ pratyavekṣito bhavatīti cittasvabhāvamapi pratyavekṣate| sa evaṁ vicārayati, cittamapi paramārthato māyāvad anutpannam| yada hi alīkasvabhāvarūpādyākāropagraheṇa cittameva citrākāraṁ pratibhāsate, tadā'syāpi rūpādivat tadavyatirekāt satyatvaṁ kutra bhavet ? yathā citrākāratayā rūpādayo naikānekasvabhāvāstathā cittamapi tadavyatirekeṇa naikānekasvabhāvam| nāpi cittamutpādyamānaṁ kutaścid āgacchati| nāpi nirudhyayānaṁ kvacid gacchati| nāpi svaparobhayataḥ paramārthenāsyotpādo yuktaḥ| tasmān māyopamameva cittam| yathā cittamevaṁ sarvadharmā māyāvat paramārthato'nutpannāḥ|
yenāpi cittena pratyavekṣate yogī tasyāpi svabhāvaṁ parīkṣamāṇo nopalabhate| tad evaṁ yatra yatrālambane yoginaścittaṁ prasaret tasya tasya svabhāvaṁ parīkṣamāṇo [tat svabhāvamapi nopalabhate] 'sau yada nopalabhate tadā sarvameva vastu vicārya kadalīskandhavad asāramavagamya, tataścittaṁ vivartayati| tato bhāvādivikalpoparatau sarvaprapañcavigatam ānimittaṁ yogaṁ pratilabhate| tathā coktam āryaratnameghe-"sa evam apakṣālakuśalaḥ sarvaprapañcavigamāya śūnyatābhāvanāyā yogamāpadyate| sa śūnyatābhāvanābahulo yeṣu yeṣu sthāneṣu cittaṁ prasarati cittamabhiramate tāni tāni sthānāni svabhāvataḥ parigaveṣamāṇaḥ śūnyaṁ pratividhyati [yat cittaṁ tadapi parīkṣamāṇaṁ śūnyaṁ pratividhyati] yenāpi cittena parīkṣate tad api svabhāvataḥ parigaveṣyamāṇaṁ śūnyaṁ pratividhyati| sa evam upaparīkṣamāṇo nirnimittatāyāṁ yogamāpadyate|" tad eva anenaivaṁ darśitaṁ bhavati| yastu nopaparīkṣate tasya nāsti nirnimittatāyāṁ praveśa iti|
sa evaṁ dharmāṇāṁ svabhāvamupaparīkṣamāṇo yada nopalabhate, tadāstīti na vikalpayati nāstīti na vikalpayati| yo'sau nāstīti kalpyate tasya buddhau sarvadaivāpratibhāsanāt| yadi hi bhāvaḥ kadācid dṛṣṭo bhavet, tadā tasya pratiṣedhān nāstīti kalpayet| yadā kālatraye'pi yoginā prajñayā nirūpayatā bhāvo nopalabdhaḥ tadā kasya pratiṣedhān nāstīti kalpayet| evamanye vikalpāstasya tadānīṁ na santi eva, bhāvābhāvavikalpābhyāṁ sarvasya vikalpasya vyāptatvāt| evaṁ vyāpakābhāvād byāpyasyāpyabhāvaḥ| evaṁ sati niṣprapañcanirvikalpatāmavatīrṇo bhavati, rūpādiṣu cāniśrito bhavati| prajñayā ca nirūpayataḥ sakalavastusvabhāvānupalambhāt prajñottaradhyāyī bhavati| sa evaṁ pudgaladharmanairātmyamayaṁ tattvamavatīrṇaḥ, aparasya parīkṣaṇīyasya cābhāvād, uparatavicāreṇa nirvikalpaikarasena manasā svarasavāhinā, anabhisaṁskārataḥ tad eva tattvaṁ sphuṭataram avadhārayan yogī tiṣṭheta| tatra ca sthitaścittabandhaṁ na vikṣipet|
yadāntarā cittaṁ bahirdhā vikṣiptaṁ paśyet tadā tatsvabhāvapratyevekṣaṇena vikṣepaṁ praśamayya, punastatraiva cittamuparyupari prerayet| yadā tu tatrānabhirataṁ cittaṁ paśyet, tadā samādherguṇadarśanād abhiratiṁ tatra thāvayet| vikṣepe ca doṣadarśanād aratiṁ praśamayet| atha styānamiddhābhibhavād yada pracāratayā līnaṁ cittaṁ paśyet, layābhiśaṅkitaṁ vā tadā pramodyavastu buddharūpādikamālokasaṁjñāṁ vā manasikṛtya layamupaśamayet, tatastad eva tattvaṁ dṛḍhataraṁ gṛṇhīyāt| yadā tu jātyandhavad andhakārapraviṣṭapuruṣavad vinimīlitākṣavat sphuṭataraṁ tattvaṁ nāvadhārayed yogī, tadā tasya līnaṁ cittaṁ veditavyaṁ vipaśyanārahitaṁ ca| atha yathā pūrvānubhūtaviṣayaspṛhayā cittamantarā samuddhataṁ paśyed, auddhatyābhiśaṅkitaṁ vā, tadānityatādi saṁvegavastumanasikārād auddhatyaṁ śamayet| tataḥ punaḥ tatraiva tattve cittānabhisaṁskāravāhitāyāṁ yatnaṁ kurvīta| yadā ca vikṣiptapuruṣavad vānaravad vā'navasthitavṛtti cittaṁ bhavet, tad auddhatyaṁ boddhavyaṁ śamatharahitaṁ ca| atha yadā layauddhatyābhyāṁ viviktatayā samapravṛttaṁ svarasavāhi sphuṭataraṁ tatraiva tattve cittam utpādyate tadābhogaśithilīkaraṇād upekṣaṇiyam| tadā ca śamathavipaśyanāyuganaddhavāhī mārgoniṣpanno veditavyaḥ|
yadā ca vipaśyanā bhāvayet prajñātiriktatarā bhāvayet, tadā śamathasyālpatvāt pravātasthitapradipavat pracalatvāccittasya na sphuṭataraṁ tattvadarśanaṁ bhavet| atastadā śamatho bhāvayitavyaḥ| śamathasyābhyādhikye middhāvaṣṭabadhapuruṣasyeva sphuṭataraṁ tattvadarśanaṁ na syāt| tasmāt tadā prajñā bhāvayitavyā| yadā samapravṛtte dve api bhavato yuganaddhavāhibalīvardadvayavat tadānabhisaṁskāreṇaiva tāvat sthātavyaṁ yāvat kāyacittapīḍā na bhavet|
saṁkṣepataḥ sarvasyaiva samādheḥ ṣaḍ doṣā bhavanti| kausīdyam, ālambanasaṁpramoṣaḥ, layaḥ, auddhatyam, anābhogaḥ, ābhogaśceti| eṣāṁ pratipakṣeṇāṣṭau prahāṇasaṁskārā bhāvanīyāḥ| śraddhā, chandaḥ, vyāyāmaḥ, prasrabdhiḥ, smṛtiḥ, saṁprajanyam, cetanā, upekṣā ceti| tatrādyāścatvāraḥ kausīdyapratipakṣāḥ| tathāhi-samādhiguṇeṣvabhisaṁpratyayalakṣaṇayā śraddhayā yogino'bhilāṣaḥ samutpadyate| tato'bhilāṣavān vīryamārabhate| tato vīryārambhaṇāt kāyacittayoḥ karmaṇyatāṁ bhāvayati| tataḥ prasrabdhakāyacetasaḥ kausīdyaṁ vyāvartate| tataḥ [śraddhādayaḥ kausīdyaprahāṇāya bhavanti] tadartha te bhāvanīyāḥ| smṛtirālambana-saṁpramoṣasya pratipakṣaḥ| saṁprajanyaṁ layauddhatyayoḥ pratipakṣaḥ| tayostena samupekṣya parivarjanāt| layauddhatyāpraśamanakāle tu anābhogadoṣaḥ tatastatpratipakṣeṇa cetanā bhāvanīyā| layauddhatyapraśame sati, yadā praśamabāhi cittaṁ bhavet, tadābhogadoṣaḥ| tasya pratipakṣastadānīm upekṣā bhāvanīyā| yadi samapravṛtte citte ābhogaḥ kriyate, tadā cittaṁ vikṣipyate| līne'pi citte sati yadyābhogo na kriyate, tadā vipaśyanārahitatvād, andhapuruṣavaccittaṁ līnaṁ syāt| tasmāt līnacittaṁ nigṛṇhīyād, uddhataṁ praśamayet, punaḥ samāprāptam upekṣeta|
tato yāvadiccha yogī tāvad anabhisaṁskāreṇaiva tattvaṁ bhāvayaṁstiṣṭhet| satyāṁ tu kāyādipīḍāyāṁ punaḥ punarantarā sakalameva lokaṁ vyavalokyamāyājala candropamapratibhāsaṁ [vata] avataret| tatha coktam avikalpapraveśe-lokottareṇa jñānenākāśasamatalān sarvadharmānpaśyati| pṛṣṭhalabdhena punarmāyāmarīcisvapno dakacandropamān paśyatīti| tad evaṁ māyopamaṁ jagad avagamya, sattveṣu mahākaruṇām āmukhīkṛtyaivam anuvicintayet| evaṁvidhaṁ dharmagāmbhoryam anavagacchanto'mī bālabuddhaya ādiśānteṣveva dharmeṣu bhāvādisamāropaviparyastā vividhakarmakleśān upacinvanti| tataḥ saṁsāre paribhramanti, tato'haṁ kariṣyāmi yathaitān evaṁvidhaṁ dharmāgāmbhīryam avabodhayeyam iti, tato viśramya punarapi tathaiva sarvadharmanirābhāsaṁ samādhimavataret| cittakhede sati, tathaiva viśramya punaravataret| evam anena krameṇa ghaṭikām [arthapraharam] ekapraharaṁ vā yāvantaṁ kālaṁ śaknoti tāvantaṁ kālaṁ tiṣṭhet|
tata icchayā samādheḥ utthātuṁ paryaṅkam abhittvaivam anuvicintayet| yadi nāmāmī dharmāḥ sarva eva paramārthato'nutpannāstathāpi māyavat pratiniyatavividhahetupratyayasāmagrīvaśena vicitrā evāvicāraramaṇīyāḥ pravartante, tena nocchedadṛṣṭiprasaṅgaḥ| nāpyapavādāntasya, yataśca prajñayā vicāryamāṇā nopalabhyante, tena na śāśvatadṛṣṭiprasaṅgo nāpi samāropāntasya| tatra ye prajñācakṣurvikalatayā viparyastamatayā ātmābhiniviṣṭā vividhāni karmāṇi kurvanti te saṁsāre paribhramanti| ye punarekāntena saṁsāravimukhā mahākāruṇyavikalatayā ca na [sattvārthaṁ] dānādipāramitāḥ paripūrayanti ātmānaṁ damayanti te sattvā upāyavikalatayā śrāvakapratyekabuddhabodhau patanti|
ye tu asvabhāvaṁ jagad avagamya mahākāruṇyabalena sakalajagadabhyuddharaṇakṛtaniścayā māyākāravad aviparyastadhiyo vipulapuṇyajñānasaṁbhāraṁ samupāyanti te tathāgataṁ padaṁ prāpyāsaṁsāramaśeṣasya jagataḥ sarvākāraṁ hitasukhāni saṁpādayantaḥ tiṣṭhanti| te ca jñāna [sambhāra] balena [samasta] kleśaprahāṇān na saṁsāre patanti sarvasattvāpekṣayā ca samupārjitavipulāprameyapuṇyasaṁbhāravaśena na nirvāṇe patanti, sarvasattvopajīvyāśca bhavanti| tasmān mayā sakalasattvahitasukhādhānārthinā'pratiṣṭhitanirvāṇam adhigantukāmena vipulapuṇyajñāna-saṁbhāropārjane'bhiyogaḥ [sadā] karaṇiyaḥ| tathā coktam āryatathāgataguhyasutre-"jñānasambhāraḥ sarvakleśaprahāṇāya saṁvartate| puṇyasambhāraḥ sarvasattvopajīvitāyai saṁvartate| tasmāt tarhi bhagavan bodhisattvena mahāsattvena puṇyasambhāre jñānasaṁbhāre ca sarvadā'bhiyogaḥ karaṇīyaḥ" iti| āryatathāgatotpattisaṁbhasūtre coktam-"sa khalu punareṣa tathāgatānāṁ saṁbhavo naikena kāraṇena bhavati| tat kasya hetoḥ ? samudāgataistāvad bho jinaputrāprameyaśatasahasradaśakāraṇaistathāgatāḥ samudāgacchanti| katamairdaśabhiryadutāprameyapuṇyajñānasambhārātṛptisamudāgamakāraṇeneti" vistara| āryavimalakīrtinirdeśe coktam-"śatapuṇyanirjātāḥ sarvakuśaladharmanirjātā apramāṇakuśalamūlakarmanirjātāḥ kāyāstathāgatasyeti" vistaraḥ|
tad evaṁ kṛtvā śanaiḥ paryaṅkaṁ bhittvā daśadigvyavasthitān sarvabuddhabodhisattvān praṇipatya tebhyaśca pūjāstotropahāraṁ kṛtvāryabhadracaryādipraṇidhānaṁ pranidadhīta| tataḥ śūnyatākaruṇāgarbhānuttarasaṁbodhipariṇāmitasakaladānādipuṇyasaṁbhāropārjanābhiyukto bhavet|
yastu manyate, cittavikalpasamutthāpitaśubhāśubhakarmavaśena sattvāḥ svargādikarma phalamanubhavantaḥ saṁsāre saṁsaranti| ye punarna kiñciccintayanti nāpi kiñcit karma kurvanti te parimucyante saṁsārāt| tasmānna kiñciccintayitavyam| nāpi dānādikuśalacaryā kartavyā| kevalaṁ mūrkhajanamadhikṛtya dānādikuśalacaryā nirdiṣṭeti| tena sakalamahāyānaṁ pratikṣiptaṁ bhavet| mahāyānamūlatvācca sarvayānānāṁ tatpratikṣepeṇa sarvam eva yānaṁ pratikṣiptaṁ syāt| tathā hi 'na kiñciccintayitavyamiti' bruvata bhutapratyavekṣālakṣaṇā prajñā pratikṣiptā bhavet| bhūtapratyavekṣā-mūlatvāt samyagjñānasya tatpratikṣepā llokottarāpi prajñā pratikṣiptā bhavet| tatpratikṣepāt sarvākārajñatā pratikṣiptā bhavet| nāpi dānādicaryā kartavyeti vadatā copāyo dānādiḥ sphuṭatarameva pratikṣiptaḥ|
etāvad eva ca saṁkṣiptaṁ mahāyānaṁ yaduta prajñopāyaśca| yathoktam āryagayāśīrṣe-"dvāvimau bodhisattvānāṁ saṁkṣiptau mārgau| katamau dvau ? yaduta prajñā copāyaśca| " āryatathāgataguhyasūtre coktam-"imau ca prajñopāyau bodhisattvānāṁ sarvapāramitāsaṁgrahāya saṁvartete" iti| tataśca mahāyānaṁ pratikṣipatā mahat karmāvaraṇaṁ kṛtaṁ syāt| tasmād [mahāyānaṁ pratikṣipataḥ, alpaśrutasya, ātmadṛṣṭiṁ parāmṛśataḥ,] asyānupāsitavidvajjanasyānavadhārita-tathāgata-pravacananīteḥ svayaṁ vinaṣṭasya parān api nāśayato yuktyāgamadūṣitatvāt, viṣasaṁsṛṣṭavacanaṁ saviṣabhojanamiva ātmakāmena dhīmatā dūrata eva parihartavyam|
tathā hyanena bhūtapratyavekṣāṁ pratikṣipatā dharmapravicayākhyaṁ pradhānam eva bodhyaṅgaṁ pratikṣiptaṁ syāt| vinā ca mūtapratyavekṣayā yoginaḥ katham anādikālābhyastarūpādibhāvābhiniveśasya cittaṁ nirvikalpatāṁ praviśet ? sarvadharmeṣvasmṛtyamanasikāreṇa praviśatīti cet, tad ayuktam| na hi vinā bhūtapratyavekṣayānubhūyamāneṣvapi sarvadharmeṣvasmṛtiramanasikāro vā śakyate kartum| yadi ca nāmāmī dharmā mayā'smartavyā nāpi manasikartavyā ityevaṁ bhāvayannasmṛtimanasikārau teṣu bhāvayet tadā sutarām eva tena te smṛtā manasikṛtāśca syuḥ| atha smṛtimanasikārābhāvamātram asmṛtyamanasikārāvabhipretau, tadā tayorabhāvaḥ kena prakāreṇa bhavatīti etad eva vicāryate| na cābhāvaḥ kāraṇaṁ yuktam, yena tato [nirnimittāmanasikārāt] nirvikalpatā bhavet| [tanmātrato'vikalpatāyāṁ] saṁmurcchitasyāpi smṛtimanasikārābhāvān nirvikalpatāpraveśaprasaṅgaḥ| na ca bhūtapratyavekṣāṁ vinā'nya upāyo'sti yena prakāreṇāsmṛtyamanasikārau kuryāt|
satyapi cāsmṛtyamanasikārasambhave, vinā bhūtapratyavekṣayā niḥsvabhāvatā dharmāṇāṁ katham avagatā bhavet ? na hi svabhāvata evaṁ dharmāḥ śūnyāḥ sthitā ityevaṁ vinā tatpratyavekṣayā tacchūnyatāprativedho bhavet| nāpi vinā śūnyatāprativedhena āvaraṇaprahāṇaṁ saṁbhavati sarvatra sarveṣāṁ muktiprasaṅgāt|
kiṁ ca tasya yogino yadi sarvadharmeṣu muṣitasmṛtitayā mūḍhatayā vā smṛtimanasikārau na pravartete, tadā'tyantamūḍhaḥ katham asau yogī bhavet| vinā ca bhūtapratyavekṣayā tatrāsmṛtim amanasikāraṁ cābhyastatā moha evābhyasto bhavet| tata eva samyagjñānāloko dūrīkṛtaḥ syāt| athāsau na muṣitasmṛtirnāpi mūḍhaḥ, tadā kathaṁ tatrāsmaraṇam amanasikāraṁ kartu śaknuyād vinā bhūtapratyavekṣayā| na hi smaranneva na smarati, paśyan eva na paśyatīti yuktam abhidhātum| asmṛtyamanasikārābhyāsācca kathaṁ pūrvanivāsānusmṛtyādi-buddhadharmodayo bhavet, virodhāt, na hyuṣṇaviruddhaṁ śītam āsevamānasya uṣṇasparśasaṁvedanaṁ bhavet|
kiṁ ca samādhisamāpannasya yogino yadi manovijñānam asti, tadā'vaśyaṁ tena kiṁcid ālambayitavyam| na hi pṛthagjanānāṁ sahasā nirālambanaṁ jñānaṁ bhavet| atha nāsti, tadā kathaṁ niḥsvabhāvatā dharmāṇāmavagatā bhavet ? kena ca pratipakṣeṇa kleśāvaraṇaṁ prahīyate ? na ca caturthadhyānālābhinaḥ pṛthagjanasya cittanirodhaḥ saṁbhavati| tasmāt saddharme yāvasmṛtyamanasikārau paṭhitau tau bhūtapratyavekṣāpūrvākau draṣṭavyau| asmād bhūtapratyavekṣayā'smṛtirmanasikāraśca śakyate kartum, nānyathā| tathā hi yadā nirūpayan samyakprajñayā yogī kālatraye paramārthataḥ samutpannaṁ na kaṁcid dharma paśyati, tadā tatra kathaṁ smṛtimanasikārau kuryāt| yo hi kālatraye'pyasattvān nānubhūtaḥ paramārthataḥ sa kathaṁ smaryeta, manasi vā kriyeta| tato'sau sarvaprapañcopaśamaṁ nirvikalpaṁ jñānaṁ praviṣṭo bhavet| tatpraveśācca śūnyatāṁ pratividhyati tatprativedhācca prahīṇasakalakudṛṣṭijālo bhavati|
upāyayuktaḥ prajñāsevanataśca samyak saṁvṛtiparamārthasatyakuśalo bhavati| ato'nāvaraṇajñānalābhāt sarvān eva buddhadharmān adhigacchati| tasmānna vinā bhūtapratyavekṣayā samyagjñānodayo nāpi kleśāvaraṇaprahāṇām| tathā coktaṁ mañjuśrīvikurvitasūtre-"kathaṁ dārike bodhisattvo vijitasaṁgrāmo bhavati? āha, yo mañjuśrīḥ vicāya vicāya sarvadharmān nopalabhate" iti| tasmād visphāritajñānacakṣuḥ prajñāśastreṇa kleśārīn nirjitya, nirbhayo viharan yogī, na tu kātarapuruṣa iva vinimīlitākṣaḥ| āryasamādhirāje'pyuktam-
nairātmyadharmān yadi pratyevekṣate
tān pratyavekṣya yadi bhāvayet|
sa hetu nirvāṇapahalasya prāptaye
yo'nyaheturna sa bhoti śāntaye||iti|
sutrasamuccaye coktam-"ātmanā vipaśyanāyogam anuyukto viharati parāṁśca vipaśyanāyāṁ nābhiyojayatīti mārakarmeti|" vipaśyanā ca bhūtapratyavekṣāsvabhāvā āryaratnamegha-sandhinirmocanādau, āryaratnameghe ca-"vipaśyanāṁ nirūpayato niḥsvabhāvatāprativedhad animittapraveśa uktaḥ|" āryalaṅkāvatāre coktam-"yasmāt, mahāmate, buddhayā vicāryamāṇānāṁ svasāmānyalakṣaṇaṁ bhāvānāṁ nāvadhāryate| tenocyante niḥsvabhāvāḥ sarvadharmāḥ" iti| tatra tatra sūtre yā bhagavatā nānāprakārā pratyavekṣā nirdiṣṭā sā virudhyate, yadi bhūtapratyavekṣā na kartavyā| tasmād evaṁ yuktaṁ vaktuṁ vayam alpaprajñā alpavīryāścana śaknumo bāhuśrutyaṁ paryeṣitumiti| na hi tatpratikṣepo yukto bhagavatā bahudhā bāhuśrutyasya varṇitatvāt| tat punarbrahmaparipṛcchāyām uktam-"ye tvacintyeṣu dharmeṣu [cintana] viprayuktāḥ teṣām ayoniśa iti| tatrāpi ye paramārthato'nutpannānāṁ dharmāṇām utpādaṁ parikalpyānityaduḥkhadirūpeṇa śrāvakādivaccintāṁ prakurvanti, teṣāṁ samāropāpavādāntena cintāṁ pravartayatām ayoniśaḥ tad bhavatīti tatpratiṣedhāya yad uktaṁ na bhūtapratyavekṣāyāḥ sa pratiṣedhaḥ tasyāḥ sarvasūtreṣvanujñānāt| tathā ca tatraiva brahmaparipṛcchāyām uktam-"cittaśūro bodhisattva āha-yaścittena sarvadharmāścintayati tatra cākṣato'nupahataḥ sa tenocyate bodhisattvaḥ" iti| tatraivoktam-"kathaṁ vīryavanto bhavanti, yada sarvajñatācittaṁ vicīyamānānopalabhante" iti| punaḥ tatraivoktam-"matimantaśca te bhaviṣyanti yoniśo dharmān pratyavekṣaṇatayeti"| punaḥ tatraivoktam-"pravicinvanti te dharmān yathā māyāmarīciketi"|
tad evaṁ yatra yatrācintyādiprapañcaḥ śrūyate, tatra tatra śrutacintāmātreṇaiva tattvādhigamaṁ ye manyante, teṣām abhimānapratiṣedhena pratyātmavedanīyatvaṁ dharmāṇāṁ pratipādayate| ayoniśaśca cittapratiṣedhaḥ kriyata iti boddhavyam, na bhūtapratyavekṣāyāḥ pratiṣedhaḥ| anyathā bahutaraṁ yuktyāgamaviruddhaṁ syāt| yathoktaṁ prāk| kiñca yad eva śrutacintāmayyā prajñayā viditaṁ tad eva bhāvanāmayyā prajñayā bhāvanīyaṁ nānyat| saṁdiṣṭa-dhāvanabhūmyaśvadhāvanavat| tasmāt bhūtapratyavekṣā kartavyā| yadi nāmāsau vikalpasvabhāvātathāpi yoniśo manasikārasvabhāvatvāt tato bhūta nirvikalpajñānodaya iti kṛtvā tajjñānārthinā sā sevanīyā| nirvikalpe ca bhutajñānāgnau samutpanne, sati, kāṣṭhadvayanigharṣasaṁjātavanhinā tatkāṣṭhadvayadāhavat sāpi paścāt tenaiva dahyata evetyuktam āryaratnakūṭe|
yaccāpyucyate-na kiṁcit kuśalādikarma kartavyam iti| tatraivaivaṁ vadatā karmakṣayān muktirityājīvaka vādābhyupagamo bhavet| na hi bhagavatpravacane karmakṣayān muktiriṣyate| kiṁ tarhi, kleśakṣayāt| anādikālopacittasya hi karmaṇo na śakyate kṣayaḥ kartu tasyānantatvāt| apāyādiṣu ca tatphalaṁ bhuñjānasyāparasyāpi karmaṇaḥ prasūteḥ kleśeṣu cāvikaleṣu tatkaraṇatayā sthiteṣu karmaṇo niroddhum aśakyatvāt| pradīpānirodhe tatprabhāyā anirodhavat| na cāpi tasya vipaśyanāpavādinaḥ kleśakṣayaḥ saṁbhavatītyukta prāk| atha kleśakṣayārtha vipaśyanā sevanīyeti manyate, tadā kleśakṣayād eva muktiḥ sidhyatīti karmakṣaye tarhi vyarthaḥ śramaḥ| akuśalakarma na kartavyam iti yuktametat, kuśalaṁ tu kimiti pratiṣidhyate| saṁsārāvāhakatvāt pratiṣidhyata iti cet, tadayuktam| yad eva ātmādiviparyāsasamutthāpitam kuśalaṁ tad eva saṁsārāvāhakaṁ bhavati| na tu bodhisattvānāṁ mahākaruṇāsamutthāpitam anuttarasaṁbodhipariṇāmitamapi| tathā āryadaśabhūmake eta eva daśakuśalakarmapathāḥ pariṇāmanādipariśuddhiviśeṣeṇa śrāvakapratyekabuddhabodhisattvabuddhatvavāhakā bhavantīti nirdiṣṭam| āryaratnakūṭe ca, sarvamahānadīnāṁ mahāsamudre praviṣṭānāṁ payaḥ skandhavad bodhisattvānāṁ nānāmukhopacitaṁ kuśalamūlaṁ sarvajñatāpariṇāmitaṁ sarvajñataikarasaṁ bhavati iti varṇitam|
yā ca buddhabodhisattvānāṁ rūpakāyakṣetrapariśuddhiḥ prabhāparivāramahābhogatādisaṁpattiḥ dānādipuṇyasambhāraphalasattvena tatra tatra sūtre varṇitā bhagavatā sāpi virudhyate| kuśalacaryāpratiṣedhe ca prātimokṣasaṁvarādirapi pratikṣiptaḥ syāt| tato vyarthameva tasya śiromuṇḍitakāṣāyadhāraṇādi prasajyeta| kuśalakarmābhisaṁskāravaimukhye ca sati saṁsāravaimukhyaṁ sattvārthakriyāvaimukhyaṁ ca sevitaṁ bhavet| tato bodhiḥ tasya dūre bhavet| uktaṁ hyāryaṁsaṁdhinirmocane-"ekāntasattvārthavimukhasya ekāntasaṁskārā bhisaṁskāravimukhasya nānuttarāsamyaksaṁbodhiruktā mayeti|" āryopāliparipṛcchādau ca-"saṁsāre vaimukhyaṁ bodhisattvānāṁ paradauḥśīlyamiti varṇitam| saṁsāraparigrahaḥ tu paramaṁ śīlam|" uktam āryavimalakīrtinirdeśe ca-"upāyād bhavati saṁsāragamanaṁ bodhisattvānāṁ mokṣaḥ| upāyarahitā ca prajñā bandhaḥ, prajñārahitaścopāyo bandhaḥ| prajñāsahita upāyo mokṣaḥ, upāyasahitā prajñā mokṣaḥ" iti varṇitam| āryagaganagañje uktam-"saṁsāraparikhedo bodhisattvānāṁ mārakarma iti|" sūtrasamuccaye ca-"asaṁskṛtaṁ ca pratyavekṣate saṁskṛtaiśca kuśalaiḥ parikhidyata iti mārakarma iti| bodhimārga prajānāti pāramitāmārga ca na paryeṣata iti mārakarmeti|" yat punaḥ tatraivoktam-"dānacittābhiniveśād yāvat prajñācittābhiniveśāṁ mārakarmeti tatra na dānādināṁ sevāpratiṣedhaḥ kiṁ tvahaṁkāramamakāracittābhiniviṣṭasya grāhyagrāhakacittābhiniviṣṭasya caupalambhikasya yo viparītābhiniveśo dānādau tasya pratiṣedhaḥ| viparītābhiniveśasamuttthāpitā hi dānādayo'pariśuddhā bhavantīti kṛtvā mārakarmetyuktam| anyathā dhyānam api na sevanīyaṁ syāt| tathā ca kathaṁ muktiḥ bhavet ?
ata evaupalambhikasya sattvanānātvasaṁjñāyā yad dānādi tad apariśuddham iti pratipādanāya āryagaganagañje'pi-"sattvanānātva [viparītakarma] saṁjñino dānādi mārakarmetyuktam"| yaccāpi [tri] skandhapariṇāmanāyām uktam-"sarvam eva dāna-śīla-kṣānti-vīrya-dhyāna-prajñāsamatām ajānatopalambhayati, tena paryeṣṭitadānena parāmṛṣṭaśīlena śīlaṁ rakṣitam| ātmaparasaṁjñinā kṣāntirbhāvitetyādi tat pratideśayāmīti|" tatrāpyaupalambhikasya nānatvasaṁjñino viparītābhiniveśasamutthāpitā dānādayo'pi śuddhā bhavantīti etāvanmātraṁ pratipāditam| na tu sarvathā dānādīnāṁ sevanapratiṣedhaḥ| anyathā sarvasyaiva dānāderaviśeṣeṇa pratideśanā kṛtā syāt, nopalambhaviparyāsapatitasyaiva| yaccāpi brahmaparipṛcchāyām uktam-"yāvatī caryā sarvā parikalpyā| niṣparikalpyā ca bodhirityādi|" tatrāpyutpādādivikalpacaryāyāḥ prakṛtatvāt tasyāḥ parikalpatvamuktam| animittavihāre cānabhisaṁskāravāhinaḥ sthitasya bodhisattvasya vyākaraṇaṁ bhavati, nānyasyetyetāvanmātraṁ pratipāditam| sarveṣāṁ ca dānādīnāṁ paramārthato'nutpannatvaṁ ca paridīpitam, na tu caryā na kartavyetyabhihitam|
anyathā hi dīpaṅkarāvadāne ye buddhā bhagavatā paryupāsitā yeṣāṁ tu kalpamapi bhagavatā bhāṣamāṇena na śakyaṁ nāmaparikīrtnaṁ kathaṁ teṣāṁ bhagavatā bodhisattvāvasthāyāṁ caryāpratiṣedho na kṛtaḥ| dīpaṅkareṇāpi tadānīṁ bhagavataścaryāpratiṣedho na kṛta eva| kiṁ tu yadā śāntānimittavihāre'ṣṭamyāṁ bhūmau sthito'sau dṛṣṭastadāsau vyākṛto bhagavatā, tatra tasya caryā apratiṣiddhā| sā cānimittavihāraparamatā bodhisattvānām aṣṭāmyāṁ bhūmau daśabhūmikairbuddhaiḥ pratiṣiddhā 'mā bhūd etad eva teṣāṁ parinirvāṇam' iti kṛtvā yadi tu sarvathā caryā na kartavyā bhavet pūrvoktaṁ sarva virudhyeta|
yacca tatraiva brahmaparipṛcchāyām uktam-“dānaṁ ca dadāti taccāvipākābhikāṅkṣī, śīlaṁ ca rakṣati taccāsamāropitaḥ" ityādi| caturbhiḥ brahma ! dharmaiḥ samanvāgatā bodhisattvā avaivarttikā bhavanti buddhadharmeṣu| katamaiścaturbhiḥ aparimitasaṁsāraparigraheṇa aparimitabuddhopasthānapūjayetyādi sarvaṁ virudhyeta| nāpi mṛdvindriyeṇaiva caryā kartavyā na tu tīkṣṇendriyeṇeti yuktaṁ vaktum| yataḥ prathamāṁ bhūmimupādāya yāvaddaśamībhūmipratiṣṭhitānāṁ bodhisattvānāṁ dānādicaryā utpadyate, na ca pariśiṣṭāsu na samudācaratīti vacanāt| nahi bhūmipraviṣṭā api mṛdvindriyāyuktāḥ| āryopaliparipṛcchāyām- "anutpattikadharmakṣāntipratiṣṭhitenaiva tyāgamahātyāgātityāgāḥ kartavyāḥ" iti varṇitam| sūtrasamuccaye ca-"ṣaṭpāramitādipratipattimān bodhisattvastathāgatarddhigatikaḥ" iti varṇitam| na ca tathāgatarddhigateranyā śīghratarā gatirasti| nāpi ṣaṭpāramitādaśabhūmivyatirekeṇānyo bodhisattvānāṁ mārgo'sti yaḥ śīghrataravāhīsyāt| krameṇaiva ca cittasaṁtateḥ kanakaśuddhivat śuddhirbhavatīti sūtre varṇitam [āryalaṅkāvatāradaśabhūmikādau coktaṁ]-tathatāyāṁ yadā sthito bodhisattvo bhavati, tadā prathamāyāṁ bhūmau praviṣṭo bhavati| tataḥ krameṇaiva pūrvabhūmīḥ pariśodhya tathāgatabhūmiṁ praviśatīti| ato nāsti bhūmipāramitāvyatirekeṇa [yugapat] buddhatvapurapraveśe anyanmukhaṁ nāpi bhagavatā kvacit sūtrādau deśitam|
dhyāna eva ṣaṭpāramitāntargamāt tatsevanād eva sarvapāramitāḥ sevitā bhavantyato na dānādayaḥ [anyapāramitāḥ] pṛthak sevitavyā iti cet tad ayuktam| evaṁ hi buddhe gomayamaṇḍale'pi ṣaṭpāramitāntargamān maṇḍalakam eva kartavyaṁ syānna dhyānādyāḥ| śrāvakasyāpi nirodhasamādhisamāpannasya nimittād eva asamudācārāt tadā ṣaṭpāramitāparipūriprasaṅgaḥ| tataśca na śrāvakebhyo bodhisattvānāṁ bhedaḥ pratipādito bhavet| sarvāvasthāyām eva tu bodhisattvena ṣaṭpāramitāḥ paripūrayitavyā iti saṁdarśanārthe ekaikapāramitāntarbhāvaḥ sarvapāramitānāṁ bhagavatā sandarśitaḥ| na punarekaiva pāramitā sevanīyeti| tathā coktaṁ sarvadharmavaipulye-"yo'pyayaṁ maitreya ! ṣaṭpāramitāsamudāgamo bodhisattvānāṁ saṁbodhāya taṁ te mohapuruṣā evaṁ vakṣyanti, prajñāpāramitāyām evaṁ bodhisattvena śikṣitavyam, kiṁ śeṣābhiḥ pāramitābhiriti| te'nyāḥ pāramitā dūṣayitavyā maṁsyante| tat kiṁ manyase, ajita ! duṣprajñaḥ sa kāśirājo'bhūt, yena kapotārthena śyenāya svamāṁsāni dattāni ? maitreya āha-no hīdaṁ bhagavan ! bhagavān āha-yāni mayā maitreya ! bodhisattvacaryāṁ caratā ṣaṭpāramitāpratisaṁyuktāni kuśalamūlānyupacitāni| apakṛtaṁ nu taiḥ kuśalamūlaiḥ ? maitreya āha, no hīdaṁ bhagavan, bhagavān āha-tvaṁ tāvad ajita ! ṣaṣṭikalpān dānāpāramitāyāṁ samudāgataḥ| evaṁ yāvat ṣaṣṭikalpān prajñāpāramitāyāṁ samudāgataḥ| tat te mohapuruṣā evaṁ vakṣyanti| ekanayenaiva bodhiryaduta śūnyatānayeneti te caryāpariśuddhā bhavanti" ityādi| kevalaṁ śūnyātām eva sevamānāḥ śrāvakavannirvāṇe patanti| ataḥ upāyasahitā prajñā sevanīyā|
ata evācāryanāgārjunapādaiḥ sūtrasamuccaye'bhihitam-"na copāyakauśalarahitena bodhisattvena gambhīradharmatāyāmabhiyoktavyam" iti| atra āryavimalakīrtinirdeśādijñāpakastairūpanyastaḥ, na cācāryanāgārjunapādīyaṁ vacanam| yuktayāgamopetaṁ tyaktvā bhagavadvacanaṁ ca parityajya anyasya mūrkhajanasya vacanaṁ prekṣāvatā grahītum ayuktam| āryaratnakūṭe ca-"sakaladānādikuśalopetatayā sarvākāravaropetaśūnyatā sevanīyetyuktaṁ na tu kevalā|" āryaratnakūṭe coktam-tadyathā kāśyapāmātyasaṁgṛhītā rājānaḥ sarvakāryāṇi kurvanti evam eva upāyakauśalyasaṁgṛhītā bodhisattvasya prajñā sarvabuddhakāryāṇi karoti|
ata eva kevalāṁ śūnyatāṁ sevamānasya mā bhūnnirvāṇapraveśa iti| bhagavatā āryatathāgataguhyasūtre" coktam-"naikāntanirālambanaṁ cittamātrasevanaṁ kartavyam api tu upāyakauśalyam api sevanīyam iti pradarśanārtham uktam-tadyathāpi nāma, kulaputra ! agnirupādānād jvalati| anupādānaḥ śāmyati| evam evārambaṇataścittaṁ jvalati, anārambaṇaṁ śāmyati| tatropāyakuśalo bodhisattvaḥ prajñāpāramitāpariśuddhārambaṇopaśamam api jānāti| kuśalamūlārambaṇaṁ ca na śāmyati| kleśārambaṇaṁ ca notthāpayati| pāramitārambaṇaṁ cotthāpayati| śūnyatārambaṇaṁ ca pratyavekṣate sarvasattvamahākaruṇārambaṇaṁ ca prekṣate iti hi kulaputra ! upāyakuśalaḥ prajñāpāramitāpariśuddho bodhisattvo'nārambane vaśitāṁ pratilabhate" iti vistaram uktvā punaśca vadatyevaṁ hi-"nāsti tat kiṁcid ārambaṇaṁ bodhisattvasya yat sarvajñajñānābhinirhārāya na saṁtiṣṭhate| yasya bodhisattvasya sarvārambāṇāni bodhipariṇāmitāni, ayaṁ bodhisattva upāyakuśala sarvadharmān bodhyanugatān paśyati| tadyathāpi nāma kulaputra, nāsti tat trisāhasramahāsāhasre lokadhātau yat sattvānām upabhogāya na syat| evam eva, kulaputra nāsti tat kiṁcid ārambaṇaṁ yad upāyakuśalo bodhisattvo bodhāya copakārībhūtaṁ na paśyati" iti vistaraḥ| evam anantasūtrānteṣu bodhisattvānāṁ prajñopāyapratipattirnirdiṣṭā| tatra yadi nāma svayaṁ na śakyate dānādidpuṇyasaṁbhāravīryam ārabdhuṁ tathāpi anyeṣām evam upadeśo dātuṁ na yuktaśceti svaparadrohaḥ kṛtaḥ syāt|
tad evaṁ yuktyāgamābhyāṁ pratipāditaṁ yathā bodhisattvenāvaśyaṁ bhūtapratyavekṣā kartavyā sakaladānādipuṇyasambhāraścopārjayitavyaḥ| tataḥ prekṣāvatālpaśrutānām ābhimānikānāṁ vacanaṁ viṣam ivāvadhūyāryanāgārjunādividvajjanavacanāmṛtanugatena sakalasattveṣu mahakāruṇām upajanayya māyākāravad aviparyastenānuttarasaṁbodhipariṇāmitasakaladānādikuśalacaryāyām aśeṣajagaduddharaṇe cābhiyuktne abhāvitavyam| yathoktam āryadharmasaṁgītau-
māyākāro yathā kaścin nirmitaṁ moktumudyataḥ|
na cāsya nirmite saṅgo jñātapūrvo yato'sya saḥ||
tribhavaṁ nirmitaprakhyaṁ jñātvā saṁbodhipāragaḥ|
sannahyanti jagaddhetoḥ jñātapūrve jage tathā||iti tasyaivaṁ|
prajñām upāyaṁ ca satataṁ satkṛtyābhyasyataḥ krameṇa [cittaṁ] saṁtatiparipākād uttarottaraviśuddhataratamakṣaṇodayād bhūtārthabhāvanāprakarṣaparyantagamena sakalakalpanājālarahitaṁ sphuṭataraṁ dharmadhātvadhigamaṁ vimalaṁ niścalanivātadīpavallokottarajñānam utpadyate| tadā ca vastuparyantatālambanam pratilabdhaṁ bhavati| darśanamārgaṁ ca praviṣṭo bhavati| prathamā ca bhūmiḥ prāptā bhavati| tatastaduttarā bhūmīḥ pariśodhayan krameṇa kanakavad aśeṣāvaraṇāpagame sati asaktam apratihataṁ jñānaṁ pratilabhya buddhabhūmim aśeṣaguṇādhārāṁ prāpto bhavati| kāryapariniṣpattiṁ cālambanaṁ pratilabhate| tasmād buddhatvādhigamārthinā madhyamapaddhatau tāvad abhiyogaḥ karaṇīya iti|
prakāśya yat prāpi mayā śubham asamapaddhitam|
puṇyamastu janastena prāpto madhyamapaddhitam||
dūrīkṛterṣyādimalā hi santo guṇairatṛptāḥ salilairivābdhiḥ|
vivecya gṛṇhanti subhāṣitāni haṁsāḥ payo yatpayasi prahṛṣṭāḥ||
pakṣapātākulaṁ tasmād dūrīkṛtaṁ mano budhaiḥ|
sarvameva grahītavyaṁ bālādapi subhāṣitam||
ācāryakamalaśīlena ante nibaddho bhāvanākramaḥ samāptaḥ|
tṛtīyaḥ bhāvanākramaḥ samāptaḥ|
