apohaḥ śabdārtho nirucyate|
nanu ko'yaṁ apoho nāma ? kimidaṁ anyasmādapohyate; asmādvā anyadapohyate; asmin vānyadapohyata iti vyutpattyā vijātivyāvṛttaṁ vāhya meva vivakṣitaṁ; buddhyākāro vā; yadi vā apohanaṁ apoha ityanya vyāvṛttimātraṁ iti trayaḥ pakṣāḥ| na tāvadādimau pakṣau, apohanāmnā vidhereva vivakṣitatvāt; antimo'pyasaṅgataḥ prati tivādhitatvāt; tathāhi parvvatoddeśe vanhirastīti śābdau pratītirvvidhirūpamevollikhantī lakṣyate; nānagnirnabhavatīti nivṛttimātramāmukhayantī| yacca pratyakṣavādhitaṁ na tatra sādhanāntarāvakāśa ityatiprasiddham|
atha yadyapi nivṛttimahaṁ pratyemīti na vikalpaḥ| tathāpi nivṛttapadārthollekha eva nivṛttyullekhaḥ| na hyanantarbhāvitaviśeṣaṇapratīti vviśiṣṭapratītiḥ| tato yathā sāmānyamahaṁ pratyemīti vikalpābhāve'pi sādhāraṇākāraparisphuraṇāt vikalpabuddhiḥ sāmānyabuddhiḥ pareṣām; tathā nivṛttapratyayā kṣiptā nivṛttibuddhirapohapratītivyavahāramātanotīti cet ? nanu sādhāraṇākāraparisphuraṇe vidhirūpatayā yadi sāmānyabodhavyavasthā; tat kimāyātamasphu radabhāvākāre cetasi nivṛttipratītivyavasthāyāḥ| tato nivṛttimahaṁ pratyemītyevamākārābhāve'pi nivṛttyākārasphuraṇaṁ yadi syāt, ko nāma nivṛttipratītisthitimapalapet| anyathā'sati pratibhāse tatpratītivyavahṛtiriti gavākārepi cetasi turagabodha ityastu|
atha viśeṣaṇatayā antarbhūtā nivṛttipratītirityuktaṁ, tathāpi yadyagavāpoḍha itīdṛśā kārovikalpastadā viśeṣaṇatayā tadanupraveśo bhavatu, kintu gauriti pratītiḥ| tadā ca satopi nivṛttilakṣaṇasya viśeṣaṇasya tatrānutkalanāt; kathaṁ tat pratītivyavasthā| athaivaṁ matiḥ|yadvidhirūpaṁ sphuritaṁ tasya parāpoho'pyastīti tatpratītirucyate| tathāpi sambandhamātramapohasya vidhireva sākṣānnirbhāsī| api caivamadhyakṣasyā pyapohaviṣayatvamanivāryam| viśeṣato vikalpādekavyāvṛttollekhino'khilānyavyāvṛttamīkṣamāṇasya| tasmādvidhyākārāvagrahādadhyakṣavadvikalpasyāpi vidhiviṣayatvameva nānyāpohaviṣayatvamiti kathamapohaḥ śabdārtho ghuṣyate|| atrābhidhīyate||
nāsmābhirapohaśabdena vidhireva kevalo'bhipretaḥ| nāpyanyavyāvṛttimātraṁ, kintvanyāpohaviśiṣṭo vidhiḥ śabdānāmarthaḥ| tataśca na pratyekapakṣopanipātidoṣāvakāśaḥ| yattu goḥ pratītau na tadātmāparātmeti sāmarthyādapohaḥ paścānniścīyata iti vidhivādināṁ matam; anyāpohapratītau vā sāmarthyāt anyāpoḍhovadhāryyate iti pratiṣedhavādināṁ matam| tadasundaram| prāthamikasyāpi pratipattikramādarśanāt| na hi vidhiṁ pratīpadya kaścidarthāpattitaḥ paścādapohamavagacchati; apohaṁ vā pratipadyānyāpodam; tasmād goḥ pratipattiriti anyāpoḍhapratipattirucyate| yadyapi cānyāpoḍhaśabdānullekha uktaḥ| tathāpi nāpratipattireva, viśeṣaṇabhūtasyānyāpohasya agavāpoḍha eva gośabdasya niveśitatvāt| yathā nīlotpale niveśitādindīvaraśabdānnīlotpala pratītau tatkāla eva nīlimasphuraṇamanivāryyam; tathā gośabdādapyagavāpoḍhe niveśitāt go-pratītau tulyakālameva viśeṣaṇatvāt ago[']pohasphuraṇamanivāryyam| yathā pratyakṣasya prasahya rūpābhāvagrahaṇamabhāvavikalpotpādana śaktireva| tathā vidhivikalpānāmapi tadanurūpānuṣṭhānadānaśaktirevābhāvagrahaṇamabhidhīyate| paryyudāsarūpābhāvagrahaṇantu niyata svarūpasambedanamubhayoraviśiṣṭaṁ; anyathā yadi śabdādarthapratipattikāle kalito na parāpohaḥ; kathamanyaparihāreṇa pravṛttiḥ| tato gāṁ vadhāneti codito'śvādīnapi vadhnīyāt|
yadapyavocadvācaspatiḥ; jātimatyo vyaktavyaḥ; vikalpānāṁ śabdānāñca gocaraḥ; tāsāñca tadvatīnāṁ rūpamatajjātīyaparāvṛttamityarthatastadavagaterna gāmbadhāneti co dito'śvādīn badhnāti| tadapyanenaiva nirastaṁ yato jāteradhikāyāḥ prakṣepe'pi vyaktīnāṁ rūpamatajjātīyavyāvṛttameva cet, tadā tenaiva rūpeṇa śabdavikalpayorviṣayībhavantīnāṁ kathamatadyāvṛttiparihāraḥ?
atha na vijātīyavyāvṛttaṁ vyaktirūpaṁ, tathāpratītaṁ, vā tadā jātiprasāda eṣa iti kathamarthatopi tadavagatirityuktaprāyam|
atha jātivalādevānyato vyāvṛttam| bhavatu jātivalāt svahetuparamparāvalādvānyavyāvṛttam| ubhayathāpi vyāvṛttapratipattau vyāvṛttipratipattirastyeva| nacāgo[']poḍhe gośabdasaṅketavidhāvanyonyāśrayadoṣaḥ| sāmānye tadvati vā saṅkete'pi taddoṣāvakāśāt| na hi sāmānyaṁ nāma sāmānyamātramabhipretam turagepi gośabdasaṅketaprasaṅgāt| kintu gotvam| tāvatā ca sa eva doṣaḥ| gavāparijñāne gotvasāmānyāparijñānāt| gotvasāmānyāparijñane gośabdavācyāparijñānāt| tasmāt ekapiṇḍadarśanapūrvvako yaḥ sarvvavyaktisādhāraṇa iva bahiradhya sto vikalpabudhyākāraḥ, tatrāyaṁ gauriti saṅketakaraṇe netaretarāśrayadoṣaḥ| abhimate ca gośabdapravṛttāvagośabdena śeṣasyāpyabhidhāna mucitam| na cānyāpoḍhā nyāpohayorvvirodhoviśeṣyaviśeṣaṇakṣatirvvā; parasparavyavacchedābhāvāt, sāmānādhikaraṇyasadbhāvāt, bhūtalaghaṭābhāvavat| svābhāvena hi virodho na parābhāvenetyābālaprasiddhaṁ| eṣa panthāḥ śrughnamupatiṣṭhata ityatrāpyapoho gamyata eva; aprakṛta pathāntarāpekṣayā eṣa eva| śrughnapratyanīkāniṣṭasthānāpekṣayā śrughnameva| araṇyamārgavadvicchedābhāvādupatiṣṭhata eva| sārthadūtādivyavacchedena panthāeveti pratipadaṁ vyavacchedasya sulabhatvāt tasmādapohadharmmaṇo vidhirūpasya śabdādavagatiḥ; puṇḍarīkaśabdādiva śvetimaviśiṣṭasya padmasya| yadyevaṁ vidhireva śabdārthovaktumucitaḥ| kathamapoho gīyata iti cet ? uktamatrāpohaśabdenānyāpohaviśiṣṭo vidhirucyate; tatra vidhau pratīyamāne viśeṣaṇatayā tulyakālamanyāpohapratītiriti| na caivaṁ pratyakṣasyāpyapohaviṣayatvavyavasthā karttumucitā; tasya śābdapratyayasyeva vastuviṣayatve vivādābhāvāt| vidhiśabdena ca yathādhyavasāyamatadrūpa parāvṛtto bāhyorthobhimataḥ| yathāpratibhāsaṁ buḍdhyākāraśca; tatra vāhyorthodhyavasāyādeva śabdavācyo vyavasthāpyate| na svalakṣaṇaparisphūrttyā pratyakṣavaddeśakālāvasthāniyatapravyakta svalakṣaṇāsphuraṇāt| yacchāstraṁ||
śabdenāvyāpṛtākhyasya buddhvāvapratibhāsanāt|
arthasya dṛṣṭāviveti,
indriyaśabdasvabhāvopāyabhedāt ekasyaiva pratibhāsa bheda iti cet? atrāpyuktam|
jāto nāmāśrayonyānyaḥ cetasāntasya vastunaḥ|
ekasyaiva kuto rūpaṁ bhinnākārāvabhāsi tat||
na hi spaṣṭāspaṣṭe dve rūpe parasparaviruḍdhe ekasya vastunaḥ staḥ; yata ekenendriyabuḍdhau pratibhāsetānyena vikalpe, tathā sati vastuna eva bhedaprāpteḥ; na hi svarūpabhedādaparo vastubhedaḥ| na ca pratibhāsabhedādapara svarūpabhedaḥ; anyathā trailokyamekameva vastu syāt| dūrāsannadeśavarttinoḥ puruṣayoḥ ekatra śākhini spaṣṭāspaṣṭapratibhāsabhedepi na śākhibheda iti cet ? na brūmaḥ pratibhāsabhedobhinnavastu niyataḥ| kintu , ekaviṣayatvābhāvaniyata iti| tato yatrārthakriyābhedādisacivaḥ pratibhāsabhedaḥ tatra vastubhedaḥ, ghaṭavat| anyatra punarnniyame naikaviṣayatāṁ pariharatītyekapratibhāso bhrāntaḥ|
etena yadāha vācaspatiḥ; na ca śabdapratyakṣayovvastugocaratve pratyayābhedaḥ kāraṇabhedena pārokṣyāpārokṣyabhedopapatteriti| tannopayogi| parokṣapratyayasya vastugocaratvāsamarthanāt| parokṣatāśrayastu kāraṇabheda indriyagocaragrahaṇaviraheṇaiva kṛtārthaḥ| tanna śābde pratyaye svalakṣaṇam parisphurati kiñca svalakṣaṇātmani vastuni vācye sarvvātmanā pratipatteḥ, vidhiniṣedhayorayogaḥ| tasya hi sadbhāvestīti vyartha, nāstītyasamartham; asadbhāve nāstīti vyarthamastī tyasamartham| asti cāstyādipadaprayogaḥ| tasmāt śabdapratibhāsasya vāhyārthabhāvābhāvasādhāraṇyaṁ na tadviṣayatāṁ kṣamate|
yacca vācaspatinā jātimabdyaktivācyatāṁ svavācaiva prastu tyānanantarameva na ca śabdārthasya jāterbhāvābhāvasādhāraṇyaṁ nopapadyate; sā hi svarūpato nityāpi deśakālaviprakīrṇānekavyaktyāśrayatayā bhāvābhāvasādhāraṇībhavannastinā stisambandhayogyā; varttamānavyaktisambandhitā hi jāterastitā; atītānāgatavyaktisambandhitā ca nāstiteti sandigdhavyatirekitvādanaikāntikambhāvābhāvasādhāraṇyamanyathāsiḍvaṁ veti vilapitaṁ| tāvanna prakṛtakṣatiḥ| jātau bharaṁ nyasyatā svalakṣaṇāvācyatvasya svayaṁ svīkārāt| kiñca sarvvatra padārthasya svalakṣaṇasvarūpeṇaivāstitvādikaṁ cintyate| jātestu varttamānādivyaktisambandho stitvādikamiti tu bālapratāraṇam| evaṁ jātimavdhyaktivacane'pi doṣaḥ; vyakteścet pratītisiddhiḥ, jātiradhikā pratīyatām, mā vā, na tu vyaktipratītidoṣanmuktiḥ| ete na yaducyate kaumārilaiḥ| sabhāgatvādeva vastuno na sādhāraṇyadoṣaḥ| vṛkṣatvaṁ hyanirdvāritabhāvābhāvaṁ śabdādavagamyate| tayoranyatareṇa śabdāntarāvagatena sambadhyata iti| tadapyasaṅgatam; sāmānyasya nityasya pratipattāvanirdvāritabhāvābhāvatvāyogāt| yacceḍhaṁ na ca pratyakṣasyeva śabdānāṁ arthapratyāyanaprakāro yena taddṛṣṭa ivāstyādiśabdāpekṣā na syāt; vicitraśaktitvāt pramāṇānāmiti tadapyaindriyakaśābdapratibhāsayorekasvarūpagrāhitve bhinnāvabhāsadūṣaṇena dūṣitam vicitraśaktitvañca pramāṇānāṁ sākṣātkārādhyavasāyābhyāmapi caritārtham|
tato yadi pratyakṣārthapratipādanaṁ śābdena tadvadevāvabhāsaḥ syāt; abhavaṁśca na tadviṣayakhyāpanaṁ kṣamate| nanu vṛkṣaśabdena vṛkṣatvāṁśe codite sattvādyaṁśaniścayanārthamastyādipadaprayoga iti cet? niraṁśatvena pratyakṣasamadhigatasya svalakṣaṇasya ko'vakāśaḥ padāntareṇa; dharmmāntaravidhiniṣedhayoḥ pramāṇāntareṇa vā| pratyakṣe'pi pramāṇāntarāpekṣā dṛṣṭe ti cet ? bhavatu tasyāniścayātmatvāt anabhyastasvarūpaviṣaye; vikalpastu svayanniścayātmako yatra grāhī tatra kimapareṇa? asti ca śabdaliṅgāntarāpekṣā tato na vastu svarūpagrahaḥ| nanu bhinnā jātyādayo dharmmāḥ parasparaṁ dharmmiṇaśceti jātilakṣaṇaikadharmmadvāreṇa pratītepi śākhini dharmmāntaravattayā na pratītiriti kinna bhinnā bhidhānādhī no dharmāntarasya nīlacaloccaistaratvāderavavodhaḥ| tadetadasaṅgatam; akhaṇḍātmanaḥ svalakṣaṇasya pratyakṣe pratibhāsāt| dṛśyasya dharmmadharmmibhedasya pratyakṣapratikṣiptatvā danyathā sarvvaṁ sarvvatra syādityatiprasaṅgaḥ| kālpanikabhedāśrayastu dharmmadharmmivyavahāra iti prasādhitam śāstre; bhavatu vā paramārthiko dharmmadharmmibhedaḥ| tathāpyanayoḥ samavāyāde rdūṣitatvādupakāralakṣaṇaiva pratyāsattireṣitavyā| evañca yathendriyapratyāsattyā pratyakṣeṇa dharmmipratipattau sakalataddvarmmapratipattiḥ| tathā śabdaliṅgābhyāmapi vācyavācakādi sambandhapratibaddhābhyāṁ dharmmipratipattau niravaśeṣataḍvarmmapratipatti rbhavet; pratyāsattimātrasyāviśeṣāt|
yacca vācaspatiḥ; nacaikopādhinā sattve viśiṣṭe tasmin gṛhīte; upādhyanta raviśiṣṭatabgdrahaḥ| svabhāvoṁ hi dravyasya upādhibhirvviśiṣyate| natūpādhayo vā viśeṣyatvaṁ vā tasya svabhāva iti| tadapi plavata eva| nahyabhedādupādhyantaragrahaṇañcamāsañji tam| bhedaṁ puraskṛtyaivopakārakagrahaṇe upakāryyagrahaṇaprasañjanāt| na cāgnidhūmayoḥ kāryyakāraṇabhāva iva svabhāvata eva dharmmadharmmiṇoḥ pratiniyamakalpanamucitam| tayorapi pramāṇāsiddha tvāt| pramāṇasiddhe ca svabhāvopavarṇanamiti nyāyaḥ||
yaccātra nyāyabhūṣaṇena sūryyādigrahaṇe tadupakāryyāśeṣa vasturāśigrahaṇaprasañjanamuktam; tadabhiprāyānavagāhana phalam tathā hi tvanmate dharmmadharmmiṇorbhedaḥ upakāralakṣaṇaiva ca pratyāsattiḥ| tadopakārakagrahaṇe samānadeśasyaiva dharmmarūpasyaiva copakāryyasya grahaṇamāsañjitam| tat kathaṁ sūryyo pakāryyasya bhinnadeśasya dravyāntarasya vā dṛṣṭavyabhicārasya grahaṇaprasaṅgaḥ saṅgataḥ| tasmāt ekadharmmadvāreṇāpi vastusvarūpapratipattau sarvvātmapratīteḥ; kva śabdāntareṇa vidhiniṣedhāvakāśaḥ| asti ca, tasmānna svalakṣaṇasya śabdavikalpaliṅgapratibhāsitvamiti sthitam||
nāpi sāmānyam śābdapratyayapratibhāsi| saritaḥ pāre gāvaścarantīti gavādiśabdāt sāsrāśṛṅgalāṅgūlādayo'kṣarākāraparikaritāḥ sajātīyabhedāparāmarśanāt sampiṇḍitaprāyāḥ pratibhāsante| na ca tadeva sāmānyam|
varṇākṛtyakṣarākāraśrūnyaṅgotvaṁ hi kathyate|
tadeva ca sāsrāśṛṅgādimātramakhilavyaktāvatyantavilakṣaṇamapi svalakṣaṇenaikīkriyamāṇam sāmānyamityucyate| tādṛśasya vāhyasyāprāpte rbhrāntirevāsau keśapratibhāsavat| tasmādvāsanāvaśādduḍvereva tadātmanā vivarttoyamastu, asadeva vā tadrūpaṁ khyātu; vyaktaya eva vā sajātīyabhedatiraskāreṇānyathā bhāsantā manubhavavyavadhānāt; smṛtipramoṣo vabhidhīyatām; sarvvathā nirvviṣayaḥ khalvayaṁ sāmānyapratyayaḥ; kva sāmānyavārttā ? yat punaḥ sāmānyābhāve sāmānyapratyayasyākasmikatvamuktaṁ tadayuktam| yataḥ pūrvvapiṇḍadaṇḍadarśanasmaraṇasahakāriṇātiricyamānāviśeṣapratyayajanikā sāmagrī nirvviṣayaṁ sāmānyavikalpamutpādayati| tadevanna śābdapratyaye jātiḥ pratibhāti; nāpi pratyakṣe na cānumānato'pi siddhiḥ; adṛśyatve pratibaddhaliṅgādarśanāt| nāpīndriyavadasyāḥ siddhiḥ| jñānakāryyataḥ kādācitkasyaiva nimittāntarasya siddheḥ| yadāpi piṇḍāntare antarāle vā gobuddherabhāvaṁ darśayet; tadā śāvaleyādisakalagopiṇḍānāmevābhāvādabhāvo go buddherūpapadyamānaḥ kathamarthāntaramākṣipet ? gotvādeva gopiṇḍaḥ, anyathā turagopi gopiṇḍaḥ syāt| yadyevaṁ gopiṇḍādeva gotvamanyathā turagatvamapi gotvam syāt| tasmāt kāraṇaparamparāta eva gopiṇḍo gotvaṁ tu bhavatu mā vā| nanu sāmānyapratyayajananasāmarthyaṁ yadyekasmāt piṇḍādabhinnam; tadā vijātīyavyāvṛttaṁ piṇḍāntaramasamarthaṁ| atha bhinnaṁ tadā tadeva sāmānyam nāmni paraṁ vivāda iti cet ? abhinnaiva sā śaktiḥ prati vastu; yathātvekaḥ śaktasvabhāvo bhāvaḥ tatha anyopi bhavan kīdṛśandoṣamāvahati ? yathā bhavatāṁ jātirekāpi samānadhvaniprasavaheturanyāpi svarūpeṇaiva jātyantaranirapekṣā| tathāsmākaṁ vyaktirapi jātinirapekṣā svarūpeṇaiva bhinnā hetuḥ|
yattu trilocanaḥ| aśvatvagotvā dīnāṁ sāmānya viśeṣāṇāṁ svāśraye samavāyaḥ sāmānyam; sāmānya mityabhidhānapratyayayornimittamiti| yadyevaṁ vyaktiṣvapyayameva tathābhidhānapratyayaheturastu| kiṁ sāmānyasvīkāra pramādena|
na ca samavāyaḥ sambhavī||
iheti buddheḥ samavāyasiddhi-
riheti dhīśca dvayadarśane syāt|
na ca kvacittadviṣaye tvapekṣā
svakalpanāmātramatobhyupāyaḥ||
etena yeyaṁ pratyayānuvṛttiranuvṛttavastvanuyāyinī kathamatyantabhedinīsu vyaktiṣu vyāvṛttaviṣayapratyayabhāvānupātinīṣu bhavitumarhatītyuhāpravarttanamasya pratyākhyātam| jāṭiṣveva parasparavyāvṛttatayā vyaktīyamānāsvanuvṛttapratyayena vyabhicārāt| yat punaranena viparyyaye vādhakamuktam, abhidhānapratyayānuvṛttiḥ kutaścinnivṛttya kvacideva bhavantī nimittavatī| na cānyannimittamityādi|| tanna samyak| anuvṛttamantareṇāpi abhidhānapratyayānuvṛtteratadrūpaparāvṛttasvarūpaviśeṣāt avaśyaṁ svīkārasya sādhitatvāt| tasmāt,
tulya bhede yayā jā tiḥ pratyāsattyā prasarpati| kvacinnānyatra saivāstu śabdajñānanibandhanam|
yat punaratra nyāyabhūṣaṇenoktaṁ nahyevaṁ bhavati| yayā pratyāsattyā daṇḍasūtrādikaṁ prasarpati kvacinnānyatra saiva pratyāsattiḥ puruṣasphaṭikādiṣu daṇḍisūtritvādivyavahāranibandhanamastu kiṁ daṇḍasūtrādineti| tadasaṅgatam| daṇḍasūtrayohi puruṣasphaṭikapratyāsannayoḥ dṛṣṭayoḥ daṇḍisūtripratyayahetutvaṁ nāpalapyate| sāmānyantu svapne'pi na dṛṣṭam| tadyadīdaṁ parikalpanīyam tadā varam pratyāsattireva sāmānyapratyayahetuḥ parikalpyatām, kiṁ gurvyāparikalpanayetyabhiprāyā parijñānāt|
athedaṁ jātiprasādhakamanumānamabhidhīyate|
yadviśiṣṭajñānaṁ tadviśeṣaṇagrahaṇanāntarīyakam| yathā daṇḍijñānam| viśiṣṭajñānañcedaṁ gaurayamityarthataḥ kāryyahetuḥ| viśeṣaṇānubhavakāryyaṁ hi dṛṣṭānte viśiṣṭabuddhiḥ siḍveti| atrānuyogaḥ, viśiṣṭabuddherbhinnaviśeṣaṇagrahaṇanāntarīyakatvaṁ vā sādhyam; viśeṣaṇa mātrānubhavanāntarīyakatvaṁ vā| prathamapakṣe pakṣasya pratyakṣavādhāsādhanāvadhānamanavakāśayati| vastugrāhiṇaḥ pratyakṣasyo bhayapratibhāsābhāvāt| viśiṣṭabuddhitvañca sāmānyam| hetura naikāntikaḥ| bhinnaviśeṣaṇagrahaṇamantareṇāpi darśanāt| yathā svarūpavān ghaṭaḥ| gotvaṁ sāmānyamiti vā| dvitīyapakṣe tu siddhasādhanam| svarūpavān ghaṭa ityādivat gotvajātimā n piṇḍa iti parikalpitam bhedamupādāya viśeṣaṇaviśeṣyabhāvasyeṣṭatvādgovyāvṛttānubhavabhāvitvād gaurayamiti vyavahārasya| tadeva na sāmānyabuddhiḥ| vādhakaṁ ca sāmānyaguṇakarmmādyupā dhicakrasya, kevalavyaktigrāhakaṁ paṭupratyakṣam| dṛśyānupalambho vā prasiddhaḥ|
tadevaṁ vidhireva śabdārthaḥ| sa ca vāhyortho budhyākāraśca vivakṣitaḥ, tatra na budhyākārasya tattvataḥ sambṛttyā vā vidhiniṣedhau| svasambedanapratyakṣagamyatvāt| anadhyavasāyācca| nāpi tattvato vāhyasyāpi vidhiniṣedhau tasya śābde pratyaye'pratibhāsanāt| ataeva sarvvadharmmāṇāntattvato'nabhilāpyatvaṁ pratibhāsādhyavasāyābhāvāt tasmāt vāhyasyaiva sāmbṛtau vidhiniṣedhau| anyathā samvyavahārahāniprasaṅgāt| tadevaṁ|
nākārasya na vāhyasya tattvatovidhisādhanam|
vahireva hi saṁvṛttyā saṁvṛtyāpi tu nākṛteḥ||
etena yaḍvarmmottaraḥ|| āropitasya vāhyatvasya vidhiniṣedhāvityalaukikamanāgamamatārkikīyaṁ kathayati| tadapahastitam|
nanvadhyavasāye yadyadhyavaseyaṁ vastu na sphurati tadā tadadhyavasitamiti ko'rthaḥ ? apratibhāse'pi pravṛttiviṣayīkṛtamiti yo'rthaḥ| apratibhāsāviśeṣe viṣayāntaraparihāreṇa kathanniyataviṣayā pravṛttiriti cet ? ucyate; yadyapi viśvamagṛhītaṁ tathāpi vikalpasya niyatasāmagrīprasūtatvena niyatākāratayā niyataśaktitvāt niyatā eva jalādau pravṛttiḥ| dhūmasya parokṣāgnijñānajananavat|
niyataviṣayā hibhāvāḥ pramāṇapariniṣṭhitasvabhāvā na śaktisāṅkaryyaparyyanuyogabhājaḥ| tasmāt tadadhyavasāyitvamākāraviśeṣayogāt tatpravṛttijanakatvam| na ca sādṛśyādāropeṇa pravṛttiṁ brūmaḥ| yenākāre vāhyasya vāhye vā ākārasyāropadvāreṇa dūṣaṇāvakāśaḥ| kintarhi svavāsanāvipākavaśādupajāyamānaiva buḍvirapaśyantyapi vāhyaṁ vāhye vṛttimātano tīti viplutaiva| tadevamanyābhāvaviśiṣṭo vijātivyāvṛttortho vidhiḥ| sa eva cāpohaśabdavācyaḥ śabdānāmarthaḥ pravṛttinivṛttiviṣayaśceti sthitam||
atra prayogaḥ| yadvācakaṁ tatsarvvamadhyavasitātadrūpaparāvṛttavastumātragocaram| yatheha kūpe jalamiti vacanam| vācakañcedaṁ gavādiśabdarūpamiti svabhāvahetuḥ| nāyamasiḍvaḥ, pūrvoktena nyāyena pāramārthikavācyavācakabhāvasyābhāve'pi; adhyavasāyakṛtasya sarvvavyavahāribhiravaśyasvīkarttavyatvāt| anyathā sarvvavyavahārocchedaprasaṅgāt| nāpi viruddhaḥ sapakṣe bhāvāt| na cānaikāntikaḥ; tathāhi śabdānāmadhyavasitavijātivyāvṛttava stumātraviṣayatvamanicchadbhiḥ paraiḥ paramārthato
vācyaṁ svalakṣaṇamupādhirupādhiyogaḥ
sopādhirastu yadi vā kṛtirastu buddheḥ,
gatyantarābhāvāt| aviṣayatve ca vācakatvāyogāt| tatra|
ādyantayornna samayaḥ phalaśaktihāne-
rmadhyepyupādhivirahāttitayena yuktaḥ||
tadevaṁ vācyāntarasyābhāvāt| viṣayavattvalakṣaṇasya vyāpakasya nivṛttau vipakṣato nivarttamānam vācakatvamadhyavasitavāhyaviṣayatvena vyāpyata iti vyāptisiddhiḥ|
śabdaistāvanmukhyamākhyāyate'rtha
statrāpohastadguṇatvena gamyaḥ|
arthaścaiko 'dhyāsato bhāsato'nyaḥ
sthāpyo vācyastattvato naiva kaścit||
apohasiddhiḥ samāptā||
kṛtiriyammahāpaṇḍitaratnakīrttipādānām||
bhavatvapohe kṛtināmprapañco
[va] stusvarūpāsphuraṇantu marmma|
tatrādṛḍhe sarvvamayatnaśīrṇaṁ
dṛḍhe tu sausthyannanu tāvataiva||
sampūrṇarātripraharadvayena
kīrtterapoho likhitaḥ sukhena|
