sauvarṇāgarudhūpadurdinatalaiścañcatpatākādharaiḥ |
ślādhyairdhātuvaraidharanibhair(bhūryasya) saṁbhūṣitā
taṁ vande suranāgayakṣamukuṭāvyāghṛṣṭapādaṁ munim ||
jayatu saddharmaḥ | ityāha bhikṣā śrutasomā |
asti karma alpāyuḥsaṁvartanīyam | asti karma alpāyuḥsaṁvartanīyamiti karmagatiryathānyāyaṁ vistareṇa vibhaktāḥ | daśānuśaṁsāḥ pravrajyāraṇyakatve bhaikṣyacaryāyām | daśa vaiśāradyānīti | sarve kāmaguṇā yathānyāyaṁ yuktāḥ | daśānuśaṁsāstathāgatacaityāñjalikarmagandhapuṣpacchatrāṇām | kathaṁ daśānuśaṁsāḥ ? nanu bhagavatā sūtramuktamekottarike-yāvanto bhikṣavaḥ sattvā apadā vā dvipadā vā catuṣpadā vā bahupadā vā, tathāgatasteṣāṁ sattvānāmagrata ākhyāyate yadidamarhan samyaksaṁbuddhaḥ iti vistaraḥ | gāthā coktā -
evamacintiyo buddho buddhadharme'pyacintiyaḥ |
yadi dharmo nvacintyo buddho'pyacintyo
acintyaprasannasya vipāko'pi acintiyaḥ |
kathaṁ daśa guṇāḥ puṣpacchatrādīnām ? ucyate | evametadyathāsūtramuktam, tathaiva tannānyathā | ye buddhe śraddadhanti, dharme cāpi, saṁghe ca pratipannāḥ, teṣāmacintyaprasannasya vipāko'pyacintyaḥ | ye tu mithyādarśanopahatacittāḥ, yathā-buddhasya parinirvṛtasya stūpe dattasya phalaṁ kutaḥ ? yasmānnāsti pratigrāha iti, teṣāṁ viparītadṛṣṭīnām | bhagavānāha-deśeme guṇāśchatrādīnām | anenāpi tāvatsukhena puṇyāni kurvantu | tatteṣāṁ bhaviṣyati dīrgharātraṁ hitāya sukhāya | api ca sarve'pi guṇā eteṣvevāntargatāḥ ucyante | kathaṁ punarbhagavati kṛtaḥ prasādo'cintya iti ? ucyate | yathā atraiva karmavibhaṅge uktam, evamanyeṣu sūtrānteṣu | api tu mandabuddhīnāmarthāya punaruktaṁ kriyate | yathā karṇesumanaḥprabhṛtīnāṁ sthavirāṇām -
ekapuṣpapradānena aśītikalpakoṭayaḥ |
idaṁ aśraddhānīyam | evamacintyo vipākaḥ | tathā aśokaprabhṛtīnāṁ pāṁśudānena cakravartirājyaṁ srotāpattiphalaṁ (ca) idamacintyamaśraddheyaṁ ca | tathā ca aniruddhaprabhṛtīnāṁ caikapiṇḍapātapradānena cakravartirājyaṁ sapta devarājyāni paścime ca bhave'rhattvaṁ ca prāptam | evamādīni ca bahūni vaktavyāni | api ca| ekenācintanīyena sarvamākrāmyati | yathoktaṁ bhagavatā abhidharme bālakāṇḍasūtre-ekacittaprasādasya vipāko varṇitaḥ-yadi ānanda saṁsāre saṁsarataḥ ekacittaprasādasya vipākena saptakṛtvaḥ paranirmita-vaśavartiṣu devaputro rājyaṁ kārayati, saptakṛtvo nirmāṇaratiṣu | saptakṛtvaḥ sukhiteṣu | saptakṛtvo yāmeṣu deveṣu bhūtvā rājyaṁ kārayati | ṣaṭ triṁśadindrarājyāni kārayati | dvāsaptatimahārājikeṣu deveṣu kārayati | cakravartirājyānāṁ koṭikoṭīnāṁ rājyāni kārayati | yadi na rājyaṁ tata idamekacittaprasādasya phalam | api ca sarvaśrāvakabuddhenāpi bhūyate | yathā dīpaṁkareṇa buddhena dīpamālāyāḥ pradānena buddhatvaṁ prāptam | idamapyaśraddhānāmaśraddhānīyam | evaṁrūpāṇi karmāṇi, yāni loke na praśraddadhati | teṣāmaśraddhānāṁ hīnādhimuktikānāṁ bhagavānāha-daśeme guṇāścaityavandanāyāśca | vistaraḥ | guṇapūrṇānāṁ tu buddhamāhātmyaṁ na kevalamagratāsūtre | uktaṁ ca yathā brāhmaṇasūtre-agro'haṁ hi brāhmaṇaśreṣṭho loke | iti sūtraṁ yojyam | yathā ca bhagavān koṭusya maharṣeḥ śelasya ca tāpasasya vinayārthamāśramaṁ gataḥ | tābhyāṁ ca bhaktena nimantritaḥ | tābhyāṁ ca bhagavān jñātvedamudānamudānītavān -
agnihotramukhā vedā gāyatrī chandasāṁ mukham |
rājā mukhaṁ manuṣyāṇāṁ nadīnāṁ sāgaro mukham ||
nakṣatrāṇāṁ mukhaṁ ādityastapatāṁ mukham |
puṇyamākāṅkṣamāṇānāṁ saṁbuddho yatatāṁ mukham |
etaddarśayati bhagavān | yathā sarveṣāṁ yajñānāṁ jāyamānānāmagnihotraṁ mukham | vedānāṁ gāyatrī mukham | sarveṣāṁ puruṣāṇāṁ rājā mukham | nadīnāṁ sāgaraḥ śreṣṭhaḥ | nakṣatrāṇāṁ candramā agryaḥ | tapatāmādityaḥ pradhānaḥ sāhasrāṇāṁ lokadhātūnāmavabhāsayati | evaṁ yaścintayati-asminnekapuruṣe dattaṁ mahāphalamiti | bhagavānāha-saṁbuddho dakṣiṇeyānāmagrya iti | anenāpi kāraṇena bhagavānagrya | etatsūtramapyāgame brāhmaṇanipāte vistareṇa pratyavagantavyam | yathā ca bhagavatā etadagre dakṣiṇāvibhaṅge sūtra uktam-etadagramānanda pratipudgalikānāṁ dakṣiṇīyānāṁ yadidaṁ tathāgato'rhan samyaksaṁbuddhaḥ | evamagryatā bhagavato vaktavyā | yathā ca mahāsamājīye parinirvāṇādisūtreṣu dvādaśayojaniko devānāṁ saṁnipātaḥ | yathā mahāprātihārye'kaniṣṭhikādibhirdevaiḥ pūjitaḥ | mahāprātihāryaṁ ca dṛṣṭvā anekāni tīrthakaraśatāni pravrajitāni | yathā ca tāpasā urubilvākāśyapaprabhṛtayaḥ pravrajitāḥ | parivrājakāśca śāriputramaudgalyāyanaprabhṛtayaḥ pravrajitāḥ | brāhmaṇāaśca brahmāyu(pūraśāyino) vasiṣṭhabhāradvājaprabhṛtayo'bhiprasannāḥ | tathā rājānaḥ prasenajidbimbasāraprabhṛtayaḥ, gṛhapatayaḥ anāthapiṇḍadaghoṣilaprabhṛtayaḥ | evaṁ devānāṁ ye'gryā manuṣyāṇāṁ ca, te'bhiprasannā bhagavati | anenāpi kāraṇena bhagavān agryaḥ | api ca yathaikottarikāgratāsūtra uktam-agradharmasamanvāgato devabhūtamanuṣyāgryaḥ prāptaḥ pramoditaḥ | etaduktaṁ bhavati-nirvāṇagāmī dharmo'dhigataḥ | tenaḥ kāraṇenāgryaḥ | kiṁ kāraṇaṁ pūrvamapi bodhisattvabhūtaṁ devā upasaṁkrāntāḥ | yathā govindasūtre, śatavarge ca tāpasasūtre indra upasaṁkrāntaḥ | nanu tadā agradharmasamanvāgataḥ, sāṁprataṁ nirvāṇagāmī mārgo'dhigataḥ | tenāgryaḥ | evamapi deśitā dharmāḥ | kecidāhuḥ- buddhaḥ parinirvṛto mokṣaṁ prāptaḥ | tasya yat stūpe dattaṁ pratimāyāṁ vā dhūpapuṣpādikaṁ kaḥ pratigṛhṇātiḥ ? yadā buddhaḥ parinirvṛta evocyate | aśraddhaitadvākyam, purato vā pāpataram, yeṣāṁ buddhaśāsanasiddhānto na viditaḥ | ya eṣa dharmo bhagavatā diśataḥ, etadbhagavataḥ śarīram | sa cādya tiṣṭhati | tasminnantarhite buddhaḥ parinirvṛto bhaviṣyati | yāvaddharmastiṣṭhati tāvadbuddho na parinirvāpayati | kiṁ kāraṇam ? dharmaśarīraṁ bhagavataḥ śarīraṁ pāramārthikam | tena dharmeṇa yadā deśitena srotāpattiphalaṁ prāpsyate,sakṛdāgāmiphalam, anāgāmiphalam, anāgāmiphalaṁ ca arhattvaṁ (ca) | etadarthaṁ cāsmākaṁ pravrajyā phalaprāptinimittam | buddhastiṣṭhatiphalāni prāpsyante| na parinirvṛtaḥ | tatrāyaṁ doṣaḥ syāt | asmākaṁ tvadyāpi phalāni prāpsyante | na parinirvṛtaḥ | tatrāyaṁ doṣaḥ syāt | asmākaṁ tvadyāpi phalāni prāpyante | ārabdhavīryāṇāṁ na kiṁcid duṣkaram | buddhe tiṣṭhamāne kartavyametatsarvaṁ kriyate | anenāpi kāraṇena jñeyaṁ dharmaśarīrastathāgata iti | yathā mahāparinirvāṇasūtre uktam-syādevamānanda yuṣmākaṁ parinirvṛto bhagavān | adyāgre nāsti śāsteti | naitadevaṁ draṣṭavyam | adyāgre vaḥ ānanda sūtrāntaḥ śāstā | evaṁ bhagavatā sūtrābhidharmavinayā dattāḥ | adyāgre caiṣa buddhaḥ | etaddarśayati | bhagavān | tathā na kiṁcinmātāpitṛsaṁbhavena śarīreṇa kāryaṁ kriyate | etaddarśayati | yadāhaṁ gṛha āvāsavasitaḥ, na tadā mayā kaściddharmo'bhisaṁbuddhaḥ | tasmānna mātāpitṛsaṁbhavaṁ śarīraṁ buddhaḥ | yadā tvahamekonatriṁśadvarṣādgṛhānnirgataḥ, ye duḥkhena dharmamicchanti te duṣkaracaryayā vismāpitāḥ | na ca me kaścidduḥkhena dharme'dhigataḥ | yathā romaharṣaṇīyasūtre uktāḥ, tathā pratyavagantavyāḥ | ṣaḍvarṣāṇi duṣkaraṁ kṛtam | na ca tena kaściddharmo'dhigataḥ | paścānmayā bhojanaṁ bhuktaṁ śarīrabalaṁ ca prāpya vaiśākhamāsapūrṇapañcadaśyāṁ bodhimūle niṣaṇṇenānuttarā samyaksaṁbodhiḥ prāptā | vārāṇasyāṁ gatvā dharmacakra pravartitam | tena dharmeṇa phalādhigamaḥ kriyate | sa cā ---- ti | anenāpi kāraṇena dharmakāyāstathāgatāḥ | yathā vinaye pāṭhaḥ | bhagavantaṁ bhagavato mātṛṣvasāha-jīvantu bhavanta bhaga------ | yattu bhagavatoktam ---- na te'haṁ gautami pureva vaktavyaḥ | sāha-atha kathaṁ bhagavān vaktavyaḥ ? bhagavānāha-evaṁ vaktavyam-dī(rgharātraṁ bhagava) to dharmastiṣṭhatu | etaddarśayati-na mama mātāpitṛsaṁbhavena śarīreṇa kiṁcinniṣṭhā | ato dharmaśarīraṁ me dīrgharātraṁ tiṣṭhatu | yāni mayā saṁsāre duṣkarasahasrāṇi kṛtāni, tānyatīva dharmasyārthāya | anenāpi kāraṇena ya eva bhagavataḥ śarīraṁ --- | mahāparinirvāṇasūtre uktam-āgatā ānanda devāḥ, divyāni ca candanacūrṇāni gṛhya, divyāni ca māndāravāṇi puṣpāṇi, divyāni ------ nanda evaṁ tathāgataḥ satkṛto bhavati gurukṛto mānito vā pūjito vā | yaḥ punaḥ kaścidānanda mama śāsane'pramatto viharati, ā ---- kurute dharmaṁ dhārayati, tenāhaṁ satkṛto gurukṛto mānitaḥ pūjito bhavāmi | etaddarśayati | kāśyapasya samyaksaṁbuddha (sya bhikṣu) bhikṣuṇībhirupāsakopāsikābhiḥ | (taṁ ca ) śarīrapūjā kṛtā, na dharmo dhāritaḥ | yāvaddharmo'ntarhitaḥ | evamāpūryamapyevaṁ kari-------(apa) cayitavyaḥ | etanmama śarīram | etaddarśayatimayi parinirvṛte yatkartavyam | dharmaṁ satkariṣyata evoktam | dharmakāyāsta (thāgatāḥ) | mahāparinivāṇe āryānandaḥ pṛcchati-kathamasmābhirbhagavati parinirvṛte bhagavaccharīrapratipattiḥ kāryā ? bhagavānāha-alpotsukairyuṣmābhirbhavitavyam | upāsakāḥ śarīraṁ yathā jñāsyanti, tathā kariṣyanti | etaddarśayati-yadetaddharmaśarīram, etadyuṣmābhiḥ paripālitavyam | upāsakābahuvyagrāḥ | asamartha dharmadhāraṇaṁ kartum | anena cirasthitenāhaṁ cirasthitiko bhaviṣyāmīti | yathā ca devāvatārasūtre utpalavarṇābhikṣuṇyā cakravartirūpaṁ nirmāya bhagavān devalokāvatīrṇaḥ prathamaṁ vanditaḥ | sā tuṣṭā | mayā bhagavān prathamaṁ vanditaḥ | tasyāśca (-------) taṁ jñātvā srotāpattiphalaṁ prāptam | etaddarśayati-na mātāpitṛsaṁbhavena śarīreṇa varṇitena vandito bhavāmi | yena phalaṁ prāptaṁ vanditaḥ | etadarthameva ca tatra gāthoktāḥ-
manuṣyapratilābhena svargāṇāṁ gamanena ca |
pṛthivyāmekarājyaṁ ca srotāpattiphalaṁ param ||
anenāpi kāraṇena dharma eva bhagavataḥ śarīram | yathā ca bodhimūlasūtre bhagavānayodhyāyāṁ viharati | atha paścimeṣu janapadeṣu dvau bhikṣū prativasataḥ sakhāyau | tau bhagavaddarśanāya prasthitau | mahāṭavyāṁ prapannau | tṛṣārtābhyāṁ tābhyāṁ pānīyaṁ prāptam | ekena tṛṣitena pītam | dvitīya āha-nāhaṁ bhagavataḥ śikṣāmatikramiṣyāmi | aparisrāvaṁ saprāṇakametatpānīyamiti | dharmaśca bhagavataḥ śarīram | tamanupālayatā dṛṣṭa eva mayā bhagavān | sa tṛṣārto bhagavantaṁ namaskurvan kālagataḥ, prasannacittaśca deveṣūpapannaḥ | dvitīyo bhikṣuḥ sapramāṇakaṁ pānīyaṁ pītvā anupūrveṇa bahubhirdivasairbhagavataḥ samīpaṁ gataḥ | sa ca deveṣūpapanno bhikṣuḥ pūrvaṁ gataḥ | yena saprāṇakaṁ pānīyaṁ pītaṁ tasya bhikṣorbhagavatā mātāpitṛsaṁbhavaṁ śarīraṁ darśitam-etanmama śarīraṁ paśya | sa ca devalokopapanno bhikṣurbhagavatoktaḥ-darśaya śarīraṁ te | devaputraśarīraṁ divyaṁ darśitam | sa bhikṣuḥ saṁvignaḥ pṛcchati-bhagavan, kimidam ? bhagavānāha-ya eṣa devaputro'nena tṛṣṇārtena saprāṇakamudakaṁ na pītam | mayā yathoktā śikṣā rakṣitā | eṣa dvitīyo mātāpitṛsaṁbhavaṁ śarīraṁ draṣṭukāmaḥ sapraṇākaṁ pānīyaṁ pītvā etasya mayā mātāpitṛsaṁbhavaṁ śarīraṁ darśitam-etaccharīraṁ paśya | yadyanena kaścidguṇo na dṛṣṭaḥ, tena ca mātāpitṛsaṁbhavametaccharīraṁ dṛṣṭam, na tenāhaṁ dṛṣṭaḥ | etadarthameva gāthoktā -
cīvarakarṇakaṁ cenniśrāya ākramanti pade pade |
aparādhena tiṣṭhanti na te buddhasya sāntike ||
yojanānāṁ sahasreṣu ye śrutvā na subhāṣitam |
tadarthaṁ pratipadyanti te vai buddhasya sāntike ||
yathā ca bhagavān dharmaprītyarthaṁ nandakasya bhikṣādharmaśrāvaṇāyopasaṁkrāntaḥ | yathā copasthāpanakasūtre uktam-paryeṣata bhikṣavaḥ | upasthāpayati dharmaṁ ca me dhārayiṣyati | sūtraṁ geyaṁ vyākaraṇamitivṛttaṁ gāthodānam | evaṁ navāṅgaśāsanaṁ yo mama dhārayati, taṁ mārgayata | na mātāpitṛsaṁbhavasya śarīrasya upasthāpakaṁ mārgayata | kiṁ kāraṇam ? yathoktaṁ ṛddhipādanipāte mṛgāramātuḥ prāsāde-evaṁ bhāviteṣu bhikṣavastathāgataścaturṣu ṛddhipādeṣu kalpaṁ vā tiṣṭhet kalpāvaśeṣaṁ vā | etaddarśayati-na yūyaṁ samarthā mama śarīraṁ kalpaṁ vā dhārayitum | eṣa tu dharmo dhārayitavyaḥ | etanmama śarīram | yathā ca mahādevasūtre uktam-mā mama bhaviṣyatha paścima ---- | -------- tmanāṁ yadidaṁ kauṇḍinyaḥ | mahāprajñānāṁ sāriputraḥ | ṛddhimatāṁ maudgalyāyanaḥ | yāvaddakṣiṇeyānāṁ subhūtiḥ kulaputraḥ | evaṁ sarvasūtraṁ vaktavyam | bhikṣuṇīnāmagratāsūtre uktam, evamupāsakānāmupāsikānāmagratāsūtre uktam | tathā catuṣparṣadasūtram -
bhikṣavaḥ | vyakto vinītaḥ viśāradaḥ | bahuśrutaḥ | dharmakathikaḥ | dharmārthapratipannaḥ saṁghaṁ śobhayati | bhikṣuṇī | upāsakaḥ | upāsikā | bhikṣavaḥ | vyaktā vinītā viśāradā bahuśrutā dhārmikā dharmārthapratipannāḥ saṁghaṁ śobhayanti | tadapi sūtraṁ vaktavyam | api ca | ekapudgale'pi tāvacca asmākaṁ vītarāge'prameyā dakṣiṇā | yathoktamugrasūtre-paśyogra bhikṣuḥ cīvareṇa prāvṛtenāpramāṇaṁ samādhimupasaṁpadya viharati | aprameyastasya puṇyasya puṇyābhiṣyandaḥ | kuśalābhiṣyandaḥ sukhasyāhāraḥ | tathā piṇḍapātaśayanāsanaglānapratyayabhaiṣajyaṁ paribhuktvā apramāṇaṁ samādhimupasaṁpadya viharati | tadyathogra gṛhapate saṁbahulā mahānadya ekībhāvaṁ gacchanti | na śakyaṁ te udakaṁ parisaṁkhyātum | atha ca punaraprameyo'saṁkhyeyo mahānudakaskandhaḥ iti saṁkhyāṁ gacchanti | katamā mahānadyaḥ ? gaṅgā yamunā sarayū āryavatī mahī| na śakyaṁ tadudakaṁ parisaṁkhyātum| atha ca punaraprameyo'saṁkhyeyo mahānudakaskandhaḥ saṁkhyāṁ gacchanti| evamevogra paśya bhikṣuḥ cīvaraṁ paribhuñjannapramāṇaṁ samādhimupasaṁpadya viharati | evaṁ piṇḍapātaśayanāsanaglānabhaiṣajyaṁ paribhuñjannapramāṇaṁ samādhimupasaṁpadya viharati | apramāṇastasya puṇyasya puṇyābhiṣyandaḥ kuśalābhiṣyandaḥ sukhasyāhāraḥ | evameva pudgale'pi tāvacchīlavati asmākaṁ dattamaprameyaphalaṁ bhavati | tathā ārāmadānavihāradānāni | velāmasūtre, dakṣiṇāsūtre vistaraḥ pratyavagantavyaḥ | tathā parinirvṛtasya bhagavataḥ stūpe kṛtāyāḥ pūjāyā aprameyo vipākaḥ | yathoktaṁ karmavibhaṅge-daśānuśaṁsāstathāgatapūjāyāḥ | kiṁ kāraṇam ? yaḥ kaściddānapatiḥ, sa mahābhogavattāṁ vā prārthayan dānaṁ dadāti, svargasukhaṁ vā cintayan, mokṣanimittaṁ vā | tacca sarvamuktam-yathā mahābhogaśca bhavati | svargeṣūpapadyate | kṣipraṁ ca parinirvāti | evamaprameyaḥ stūpe kṛtādhikārasya vipākaḥ | na yathānyeṣāṁ vākyānāṁ devadattamanena gṛhṇāti | asti karma asmākaṁ yaḥ stūpe dattamapaharati, tasyāparimāṇaṁ pāpam | teṣāmupamānaṁ na teṣāṁ pramāṇaṁ kriyate | yatkiṁcidasmin pṛthivīmaṇḍale sarvasattvānāṁ hiraṇyasuvarṇaṁ dhanadhānyaṁ vastrālaṁkārādiḥ, tasya sarvasya yaḥ kaścidapahāraṁ karoti, tasmātpāpātprabhūtataraṁ pāpaṁ yaḥ stūpe dattamapaharati | eṣo'smākaṁ siddhāntaḥ-yatstūpe dattaṁ tatstūpe eva yojyam | yatsaṁghe, tatsaṁghe evopayojyam | eṣa svasiddhāntaḥ pratiṣṭhāpitaḥ | yathāsmākaṁ bhagavān tiṣṭhati, tasmiṁśca kṛto'dhikāro'prameyavipākaḥ | kathaṁ punarbāhyā ye devāsteṣāṁ datte kiṁ puṇyaṁ phalate ? evaṁ saṁpratipannāḥ | buddhaḥ parinirvṛtaḥ | asmākaṁ devāstiṣṭhanti | evaṁ ca brūmaḥ-yastiṣṭhati yadeva bhaktā vā dhūpaṁ vā puṣpaṁ vā gandhaṁ vā dīpaṁ vā bhojanaṁ vā vastraṁ vā alaṁkāraṁ vā hiraṇyaṁ vā suvarṇaṁ vā prayacchanti, kimayaṁ hastena hastaṁ na pratigṛhṇāti ? atha na pratigṛhṇāti, buddhasya teṣāṁ ca kaḥ prativiśeṣaḥ ? atha matam-devānāṁ vā arcāsteṣāṁ pratikṛtayaḥ pūjyante | asmāpamapi buddhasya dharmaśarīraṁ tiṣṭhati | guṇāśca pūjyante | pratimāsu ye dhūpaṁ gandhaṁ puṣpaṁ pratiyacchanti | evaṁ kṛte'smākameva datte stūpeṣu puṇyamasti | pūjyante | yasmānna pratigṛhṇāti, tasmānnāsti devāḥ | athāsti devāḥ, kasmānna pratigṛhṇanti ? kiṁ kāraṇam ? uktaṁ bhagavatā-trayāṇāṁ samavāyena dakṣiṇā mahāphalā bhavati | yadi tāvaddātā bhavati, yacca dravyaṁ dātavyaṁ hiraṇyasuvarṇādi tacca bhavati, ye dakṣiṇīyāḥ | pratigrāhakāḥ devā manuṣyā vā | evaṁ teṣāṁ trayāṇāmapi samavāyaiḥ | na dānapratidānaṁ hastena hastaṁ dattaṁ mahāphalaṁ bhavati | yadyastyeva, kiṁ ca na pratigṛhṇanti ? tadbhaktānām | atha pratigṛhṇanti, tadbhaktānām | atha na pratigṛhṇanti, kiṁ kṛtvā ? atha yuktaṁ ca bhaktānāmevaṁ krodhaḥ kāraṇam | atha teṣāṁ satyaṁ nāsmākaṁ devaḥ kruddha iti | ucyate | yadi na kruddhāḥ, kimarthaṁ na pratigṛhṇanti ? tasmānnāsti saḥ | idaṁ tṛtīyaṁ kāraṇam | yacca teṣāṁ devānāṁ devabhaktāḥ suvarṇaṁ hiraṇyaṁ vā pādamūle prayacchanti, evaṁ devasya ko bandho vā iti | tadyadi tasya dhūpeṣu puṣpeṣu gandheṣu vā mālyakare vopayujyate | yena tu dattaṁ tasya puṇyaphalamasti | atha taddravyamanyaireva gṛhītam, yo dātā tasya puṇyaphalaṁ nāsti | ye ca gṛhṇanti vayaṁ devabhaktā devapādopajīvinaḥ | devo vayaṁ caikamiti | teṣāmadattadevaiśvarye devadravyāpahāre kiṁ kāraṇam ? devadravyamanyena grāhyam | iha devasya samo vā dravyaṁ gṛhyet prativiśiṣṭo vā ? na ca devasya kaścittulyaḥ, prāgeva viśiṣṭataraśca | te prativiśiṣṭatarāḥ | kiṁ kāraṇam ? yasmātte tasya praṇipātaṁ kurvanti | devapāde ca svapanti | yadā te viśiṣṭatarāḥ, kimarthaṁ devaḥ prasādyate ? atha tatra devadravyagrahaṇe pāpaṁ nāsti, anyeṣāmapio taskarāṇāṁ ye cauryeṇa jīvanti, taddravyaparasvāpahāraṁ ca kurvanti, teṣāmapi pāpaṁ nāsti | atha mātā pitā putro rājā bhṛtyaśca yathādravyaṁ yathāpaitryaṁ dravyaṁ putro gṛhṇāti | bhṛtyo vā rājño dravyaṁ gṛhṇāti, tathā vayamapi | evamapyayuktam | kiṁ kāraṇam ? putrasya tu piturdravyaṁ gṛhṇato mahān pātakaḥ | atha matam-rājabhṛtyavaddravyamiti | ucyate | rājā adattānāṁ gṛhṇamāṇaṁ putraṁ ca piotā ca dadyāt pitā, prāgeva bhṛtyam | tasmādasmadarthaṁ so'yaṁ dṛṣṭāntaḥ | yaccaivaṁ saṁpratipannāḥ-vayaṁ devabhaktāstatpādopajīvinaśca, tasmādgṛhṇīma iti | taccāyuktam | kiṁ kāraṇam ? na ca devabhaktāste devadravyaṁ gṛhṇanti | atha gṛhṇanti, na te tadbhaktā bhavanti | na kaścidbhaktimān devadravyaṁ gṛhṇāti | na teṣāṁ devabhaktirbhavati | devadravye teṣāṁ bhaktiḥ | na teṣāṁ kiṁcitpāpaṁ na vidyate, ye'dattaṁ gṛhṇanti | kiṁ kāraṇam ? pūrvarṣibhirmūle chinne tapovṛkṣaśākhāyāṁ yasya luptapitṛsnehastasyetaro janaḥ | etaduktaṁ bhavati-yo'dattaṁ devadravyaṁ gṛhṇāti, na tasya kiṁcidakaraṇīyam | kiṁ kāraṇam ? na te bhaktimantaḥ | atha te bhaktimantaḥ, śatravaḥ ke khyāpitā devasya ? atha matam-yathā amamāstena teṣāṁ dravyaṁ na prayojanam | ucyate | asti keṣāṁciddevānāṁ śrutiryathā devayajñavidhvaṁsanaṁ pṛthivyā apahāraśca kṛta iti | kasmātte'mamā na bhavanti ? asmādasmākameva dattaṁ na devasya | ucyate | dānapatinā kimartham ? asmākameva dattam | yasmādutsṛjya devasya, tasmānna yuṣmākaṁ dattam | atha matam-devasyaiva tuṣṭiryadvayaṁ gṛhvīmaḥ | kimarthaṁ devena sa dātā noktaḥ-eṣāṁ prayaccha, eṣāṁ datto ---- bhaviṣyāmīti | yasmāddātā devena noktaḥ, taiśca gṛhītam, tasmāddātuḥ puṇyaphalaṁ nāsti | ye ca gṛhṇanti teṣāmadattādānam | atha matam-devasya puṇye ca ---- taccāyuktam | kiṁ kāraṇam ? yasmāddevena tad dravyaṁ svayameva gṛhya hastena hastaṁ teṣāṁ na pratipāditam | yathoktaṁ bhagavatā-trayāṇāṁ samavāyena dakṣiṇā mahāphalā bhavatyeveti | evaṁ kiṁ na dattam ? evaṁ caite viśiṣṭāḥ samānādeva | ucyate-paradravyāpahāramapi kariṣyati | asti ca ke --- nānāpi jīvanti | tatparadravyamaśaktito na gṛhṇanti | kecidrājādattabhayāt | etāni devānāṁ ca devabhaktānāṁ ca devadharmasya pa ----- kāni | adyāpi cātra bhūtaṁ vaktavyametattāvaddevasya tīrthayātramapi teṣāṁ kaḥ pratigṛhṇati | tāsāṁ ca nadīnāṁ ca kūlāni viśālāni pā ---- kālagatāḥ | yattīrtheṣu śrāvayanti kastīrthayātrāṁ teṣāṁ pratigṛhṇāti ? atha matam-nadyāṁ snāyāmastīrthamuddiśya asyā nadyāstasmāttīrtha ----- yate | siddho'smatpakṣaḥ | kiṁ kāraṇam ? asmākaṁ buddhasya śarīraṁ tiṣṭhati | guṇāḥ pūjyante | stūpāni ca dhūpaṁ puṣpaṁ pratigṛhṇanti | ---- tā nadyaḥ paurāṇamārgamutsṛjya anena pṛthivīpradeśena vahanti | te ca ṛṣayaḥ kālagatāḥ | tasmātteṣāṁ na kaścittīrthayātrāṁ pratigṛhṇāti | evaṁvidhameva ye ṛṣīṇāṁ te brahmarṣiṇāṁ pūjāprabhṛtayaḥ | kiṁ kāraṇam ? kecit tatra saṁpratipannāḥ | brahmāsya jātiḥ | kecidākāśyapīyaṁ pūjāḥ | keṣāṁcidīśvaraḥ kartā | apare tvāhuḥ-prajāpatinā sṛṣṭāḥ prajāḥ | tasya brahmaṇo mukham | bāhustu kṣatriyāḥ | ūrubhyāṁ vaiśyāḥ| padbhyāṁ śūdrāḥ | evaṁ te saṁpratipannāḥ | vayaṁ brūmaḥ-pūrvakālato devaparīkṣitā idaṁ pāpataramaśrotavyaṁ ca | kiṁ kāraṇam ? ye kicana sattvā dvipadā catuṣpadā vā, teṣāṁ yonimukhānnirgamaḥ | kiṁ prāptam ? prajāpatiyonicatuṣṭayaṁ ca prathamataḥ | na bhagacatuṣṭayam | manasā vicintyaiva nirmitāḥ | evaṁ ca ---- sarve mukhata eva jātāḥ | kathamekapuruṣeṇa varṇacatuṣṭayaṁ jātam ? yadi ca cāturvarṇyaṁ prajāpatinā jātam | ete varṇāścaṇḍālamleccha ---- yaśca kutaḥ prādurbhūtāḥ ? tathā hastigavāśvādayaḥ | kiṁ kāraṇam ? eṣāmatra nāmagrahaṇaṁ na kṛtam| kimarthaṁ noktam ? mūrdhātaśca ---- pādatalānmlecchāḥ | striyaḥ pṛṣṭhataḥ | hastigavāśvādīni pādāṅguṣṭhājjātāni | atha vā kiṁ noktam | mūrdhādasurā jātāḥ hastataḥ --- ti | yasmādeteṣāṁ ca nāmagrahaṇaṁ na kṛtam, tena prabhūtatarā mṛgapakṣiprabhṛtayaḥ | yasmādidaṁ pūrvāparaviruddham | yadidaṁ ca brāhmaṇāḥ ---- samā | brāhmaṇasya prathamaḥ putro brāhmaṇaḥ | dvitīyaḥ kṣatriyaḥ | tṛtīyo vaiśyaḥ | caturthaḥ śūdraḥ | pañcamaścāṇḍālaḥ ----- tato nyūnatarāḥ | kiṁ kāraṇam ? prajāpateḥ putracatuṣṭayam | teṣāmaparimitāḥ putrāḥ| evaṁ kṣatriyasyaiva vaiśyasya śūdrasya prathamaḥ putro brāhmaṇaḥ | dvitīyaḥ kṣatriyaḥ | tṛtīyo vaiśyaḥ | caturthaḥ śūdraḥ | pañcamaścaṇḍālaḥ | śeṣā nyūnatarāḥ | kiṁ kāraṇam ? bījasadṛśaṁ phalam | yathā prajāpateścaturvarṇam, evaṁ tasya putrāṇāṁ gotrāṇāṁ ca caturvarṇaṁ bhaviṣyati | atha brāhmaṇānāṁ putrāḥ sarve brāhmaṇāḥ, tasmātprajāpateste tu viśiṣṭatarāḥ| yadi ca te prativiśiṣṭatarāḥ prajāpatinā, kiṁ prayojanam ? atha matam-prajāpatinā brāhmaṇā nyūnatarā iti | tasmādbrāhmaṇasya prathamaputraḥ śūdraḥ, śeṣā nyūnatarāḥ | yāvadbrahmaṇaputrī brāhmaṇī yadyasya mukhato jātā, tasmādagamyā | atha padbhyāṁ jātā, śūdrā | evaṁ teṣāṁ prajāpatiparīkṣāyā aparimāṇā doṣāḥ | atha matam-prajāpatiḥ sraṣṭā | īśvareṇa kiṁ prayojanam ? atheśvaraḥ kartā, kiṁ kāraṇam ? yasmāduktam-brahmaṇedaṁ jagatsṛṣṭaṁ lokeśvaranirmitaṁ prajāpatikṛtaṁ ceti | sa kaṁ satyaṁ bhavet | evaṁ te'nyonyaviruddhāstīrthakarā vivadanti | atha matam-sahitā bhūtvā prajā nirmiṇanti, tadapyayuktam | kiṁ kāraṇam ? te pratisāmantarājāno yathānyonyāhaṁkārāḥ-ahaṁ kartā, ahaṁ karteti | yathoktam-
karmadveṣābhibhūtāśca traya evaṁ yadā ime |
aśāśvatasya cittasya te nirmāyuḥ kathaṁ prajāḥ ||
evaṁ te sahitā bhūtvā asamarthāḥ prajānirmāṇe | evaṁ teṣāṁ mātāpi | mahādoṣaḥ karmaṇā na kiṁcinmātraiva pradarśitam | atha matam-adyāpi sāvakāśam, yasmānnāmagrahaṇaṁ na kṛtam | ucyate | adya niravakāśaṁ yasmānnāmagrahaṇaṁ na kṛtam | kiṁ kāraṇam ? ekasya doṣe datte śeṣā doṣā bhavanti | etaduktaṁ bhavati-yadi tava brāhmaṇārthaṁ saha kathāṁ kuryāt, sa tasya doṣo dātavyaḥ | yadi kṣatriyeṇa, yadi vaiśyena, yadi śūdreṇa saha kathā kriyate, yadevamāsṛtya śūdraḥ kathāṁ kuryāt saha vaktavyam | tasmādayaṁ doṣaḥ ityevaṁ niravakāśaṁ kṛtaṁ bhavati | ya evaṁ pratipannāḥ-buddhaḥ parinirvṛtaḥ, kastāḥ pūjāḥ parigṛhṇātīti, teṣāmeva svasiddhāntadoṣo vaktavyaḥ | tasmātteṣāmeva pratisvaṁ svasiddhāntānāṁ doṣo dātavyaḥ | kiṁ kāraṇam ? na hyabhiyuktasya paścātpratyabhiyogaḥ | tasmādanekaprakāreṇa teṣāṁ pūrvābhiyogaḥ kārya iti | na caitadanarthamuktam | atraikottarikāsūtraṁ pratyavagantavyam-trīṇīmāni bhikṣavaḥ pracchannavāhīnīti | katamāni trīṇi ? mātṛgrāmaḥ kūṭakārṣāpaṇo brāhmaṇānāṁ siddhāntaḥ | trīṇīmāni bhikṣavaḥ vivṛtāni śobhanti iti | katamāni trīṇi ? candramaṇḍalaṁ sūryamaṇḍalaṁ buddhavacanam | imāni trīṇi vivṛtāni śobhanti | yānyetāni parīkṣākāraṇāni devapūjāprajāpatiprabhṛtīnāṁ sadā kāryamadhikṛtya bhagavatoktam-brāhmaṇānāṁ siddhāntaḥ pracchannavāhī | mahākarmavibhaṅga ucyate-mahānti karmāṇi | atra vistareṇa vibhaktāni | tasmānmahākarmavibhaṅgaḥ | saṁgrahasārakarmavibhaṅgasarvasārakarmaṇāṁ hīnotkṛṣṭamadhyamāni vistareṇa kathāmukhāni darśitāni | tasmādapi mahākarmavibhaṅgaḥ gotrāntarīyāṇāmabhidharmasaṁyukteṣu ||

ye dharmā hetuprabhavā hetuṁ teṣāṁ tathāgato hyavadat |
teṣāṁ ca yo nirodha evaṁ vādī mahāśramaṇaḥ ||

kāle varṣantu meghāḥ sakalabhayaharā raudrasaṁsāraduḥkhāt ||
